I'm just wondering what "kart" game people have enjoyed the most.
I'm actually taking a break from playing "Diddy Kong racing" and really sitting here realising what depth of gameplay this title has....for a kart racing game it's amazing...adventure mode, different vehicles, secrets, sub games etc.
I'm really enjoying dipping into it again.
Of course, other faves for me are the original "Super Mario kart" (I loved the battle mode) and I also really enjoyed "Mario kart 64" but I have to say that Double dash isn't up there for me yet.
I'm also thinking about all the kart games there have been, including loads I haven't played , but some I have include "Chocobo racing" "Crash team racing", "Walt Disneys magical quest", "South park rally" etc, also Mario Kart and Konami crazy racers on GBA.
Crash team racing is OK....a bit like a less ambitious DKR.
Also has anyone played the Mickey mouse N64 racer by Rare? How does it compare with Diddy Kong?
So, what is THE definitive fun kart game?

Diddy Kong Racing is my personal favorite, albeit I can never beat the silver coin challenges of the 4th world.

Hands down Super Mario Kart wins. I remember playing that for the first time over at my cousin's house. It blew my mind away. Thats my favortie one. In second place it would be South Park Rally.

another hands down for Super Mario Kart. i can't even begin to count the hours i've spent playing battle mode throughout the years. somehow, while still good games, mario kart 64 and DD just plain failed at capturing the magic of their predecessor.
...there are other karting games besides Mario Kart series? who knew

Super Mario Kart. Ive played that game so many times. It would be interesting to see how many hours Ive spent playing that. I have completely mastered that game. :)

Mario Kart 64 is my favourite one 8-) I also use to love playing the SNES version when I was younger. I recently played the Gamecube version and its the worst one IMO. It just feels weird, I cant really explain it. :/

what? no option for Crash team racing?
By far beats the Mario series :rocker:
-quest mode
-2 player mode that actually UNLOCKS items
-very creative track designs
-superior handling
-good assortment of weapons
-and one of the graphical bests on the PS1

I'm with ya on this, SS. I love the Mario Kart games, though each one loses a step on the one before it... Crash Team Racing rips off the series yet manages to capture the best f the series. Natch, the Nintendo fanboys will kill me for saying this.
I also REALLY like Wacky Races for Dreamcast. Cleverly disguised "kart" game with lots of style... it just lacks in the competition department.

kart 64 of course... At college me and my roomies used to play either kart or bond for AT LEAST 4 hours every night. This went on for probably about 6 months. At the end of that, we were all official pros at both of them... *memories... *

I voted for Mario Kart 64 but it was between Mario Kart 64 and Crash Team Racing mainly because I have a lot of fond memories of multiplayer bliss with both of those games.

Just a question; if you enjoyed Diddy Kong Racing so much, why isn't it an option?
Anyway, I don't really know. I enjoyed Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart Double Dash, and hated the N64 one. SO, I think I'm gonna have to go with Double Dash. I don't see why people don't like it so much. I guess I just like all the bad games.

Honestly, My favorite kart racer would be Konami Krazy racers for GBA. It's got a lot of classic konami music, and a great character selection including Goemon, Ebisumaru, Dracula, Vic Viper, and that little octopus from parodius. I hate that stupid pastel though. She's ALWAYS in front of me. Pure evil I tell ya.

Haven't played a ton of SMK, but I've played hours upon hours of Mario Kart 64, a few years ago. You can interact with the scenery somewhat, and for an imaginative mind that's a big plus over the old flat Kart games. Definitely Kart 64 for me...but Diddy Kong Racing was awesome from what little I saw.
Oh yeah, don't forget Blast Corps! LOL

The original Super Mario Kart is placed 5# on my top list, so I voted it. Itīs one of the very few games that made me feel like a child when I first played it on the system.
Another one I really like is Sonic Drift 2 for Game Gear. Not exactly a Kart game (altought is basically the same), but is as good as it can get on that system.

64 IMO!
ALL of them!!! :D
My friend and I got to the point where we absolutely could not shave another complete second off of any track in Mario Kart 64. We mastered that thing.
I never did try Crash Team other than what was on a demo disc, but after Joe's post....I'm going to hunt it down. I like racers with adventure modes ala Diddy.

This is EXACTLY what I think too. I guess that's why I loved it so much. That is one thing I didn't like with MarioKart DD. You pretty much couldn't interact with anything. And if you did, you would just end up in last place, cause usually something would just be a long cut you were taking.
BUT, overall, other than battle mode on MKDD, that is my fav. in the series. I have had more memories and WAY MORE HOURS logged onto SMK and MK64 than I do MarioKart DD, but the other day I finally splurged and bought a new copy of MarioKart 64 and played it. Like I said I love the interaction with the environment, but overall the game isn't as good as I remember. Even my playing buddies on the mariokart series (My little brother and my neighbor), since the original snes mk, didn't like the game as much. But it does have a way better battle mode on mk64.

Well, technically, it is an option with "other"! ;)
And I just figured that as I feel that the original Super NES Mario kart kind of defined the genre that the Mario games were like the "originals" and everything else followed.
Anyway, if I had put an option for every Kart game I've enloyed, it would have been a long list.
Also, I do like Crash team racing.....I just thought Diddy Kong did it better.

Although I've never played any versions except for the original Super Mario Kart, in my opinion it can't get any better.
Totally awesome, especially Battle Mode. I once played like 40 games in a row of that :).

Mario Kart 64 for me. Between multi player Kart and Goldeneye sessions it's a wonder I got anything done during my first two years of college LOL

No votes fro Motor Toon grand Prix on PS? Once you get two PS's, link them up with a link cable and play this game - every other "split screen" kart game seems really lame. Plus, you can unlock the two player, linkable Battleship game, plus a bunch of others.

Gotta go Kart 64. So many late night 4 player sessions with friends. I just couldn't get into Double Dash, I really wanted to like it, but the Kart controls just feel off to me. Do you guys think the 2 person Kart thing really worked out? It always seemed rather boring to be the one riding on the back...

Mario Kart 64 is my favorite. I also enjoy Diddy Kong Racing, Super Mario Kart, and Mario Kart DD. I've also gotta mention Biker Mice From Mars, which came off as a cross between SMK and Rock N' Roll Racing to me.
Fun fact: Diddy Kong Racing once held a Guinness world record for "Most Anticipated Game."

I love all the Mario Kart games, but i'm gunna stick with Super Mario Kart, although i love MK64 as well, but it always felt slow, i mean as you race along, it felt slow as if the foreground wasn't coming at me fast enought!?! to give the player the idea things were moving faster... maybe it was just me? :/

I didn't vote cuz I like all, but I like Mario Kart Double Dash. I'm surprised a lot of people don't like Mario Kart Double Dash. The idea of having two weapons instead of one is awesome, not to mention every character has their very own super weapon (except for King Boo and Petey Paranha), and it'z four players. What more can u ask? :D

I have to ask this question to everyone hear about MarioKart DD.
Does anyone else not like it that when your racing you can never "truely" get to far ahead of the guy. Yeah, one race in a hundred to might get a considerable lead on your opponents, but the other 99 times, they ALWAYS CATCH UP! My point is you can never get a good lead, no matter how good you are racing because the other people in the lower places just get good items to throw and use.
This is not really a complaint on my part, but it is one thing that I liked the n64 version better. You could actually get a lead and keep it on that game.

I voted 'Other@. I love the MK series - the GBA version being my favourtie but the prize has to go to Xtreme Racing on the Amiga. My pals and I spent a good few months playing that game and you could always get extra tracks when you got bored of the standard bunch that came with the game! The weapons weren't too inspired but, to be honest, I don't really like the weapon thang in an racing game too much - I just like the purity of a good old race :)

This may not qualify, but I'm still a huge fan of RC Pro Am. Anyone ever come up with a multiplayer version of that?
For DC, I like Looney Toones Space Race. The Wacky Races game is too hard with lots of places to get lost and disoriented.
