Since I'm one of the resident Tecmo Super Bowl nuts here I thought I should creat a thead that can hold all things related to Tecmo Bowl. I get quite a few PM's about getting updated rosters on NES carts so I felt it should be on the board and not just in private PM's. So let this thread be about where to find all the current Tecmo Rom's and which ones are the best and how to get them on carts. Lets also make this thread about anything related to Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Super Bowl.

So for those interested here is what you need to do to get a new Tecmo Super Bowl on your NES complete with updated teams, stats and atributes. First here are some pictures of my new Tecmo Super Bowl game.

Here is what you do. First find the Rom you want. If you find a really good one make sure you post it here for everyone else. A lot of great Rom's can be found here: http://www.knobbe.org/

Once you find the Rom then you need find someone to put it on a cart. There are both NES and SNES Rom hacks. For NES roms there is Leonk who posts here on DP and has this site: http://nesreproductions.com/ maybe someone else knows of a good SNES cart reproducer

Then there is this site : http://tecmosuperbowl.com/ which made a NCAA version of Tecmo Super Bowl and has a bunch of other great links.

Been playing the 2000 season hack of Tecmo Super Bowl lately, running the 49ers 5-0 thus far. Week 7, and been running Tampa Bay, Jets and one other team, I forget which, that started with crappy records and seeing how I do with them.

I forgot how much fun this game was!!

cool, how do you prefer to play your new Tecmo Super Bowl? On your PC, Xbox, or have you had it put on a NES cart?

PC, using Jnes as my emulator. No X-Box and I don't have the cash to spare to put it on a cart, as much as I'd like to one these days. That and finally buy TSB again for myself.

I wrote a review for Tecmo Super Bowl II: Special Edition over at Sega 16. I thought I'd write about that version since it doesn't get talked about much.
link (http://www.got-next.com/~ken/Sega-16/Tecmo%20Super%20Bowl%202%20review.htm)

Also for those of you that like to customize your Tecmo Super Bowl TSB Playbook Editor Beta 2 is available. More info HERE (http://www.knobbe.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4291) Download it HERE (http://www.emuware.com/files/?tsbPBE-beta02.zip)

Also does anyone know where I can get a Rom put on a SNES cart. I want to get an updated SNES Tecmo Super Bowl to match my NES version.

my ebay Insanity entry has gotten me alot of emails from people in the Tecmo Bowl online community. I just got an email from this one:

http://www.tecmo-society.com/tits/

looks like they have an online league system of some sorts. I thought I would bump this up with all the EA crap going on and people looking to get their football somewhere else.

Hey man, I lost that pm from you awhile ago, so I lost some of the information you sent me.

Anyways, which TSB w/04' rosters rom is the best? I've seen many different ones with variations.

I need the best one, otherwise, I'm just wasting money if I put some subpar rom on a cart.

I've only seen up to the 2000 season on a TSB rom myself, along with the college rosters.

It's tough to say what Tecmo Rom is best. I like the one I have but if your a fan of one the teams that get left off it would suck. Here is the link to the Rom I used. Its a preseason 04-05 Rom so most of the good rookies are their but not very good.

http://www.geocities.com/ffguru2001/TSB/TSB.html

I think Jaybird used a modified version of this rom so hopefully he'll chime in later.

here is an 04-05 version of Tecmo Super Bowl III for SNES. I haven't tried it yet.

There are also tools to make your own rosters and such too. I haven't played with these at all yet, but it could be a LOT of fun.

There are a lot of different things that you can consider when putting a rom onto a cartridge.

- You can go with a certain year. If this is the case, you need to worry about what you will do if you use a year with more or less than 28 teams as TSB has this hard coded.

- You can go with All-star teams made up of the best players for a franchise or the best players at every position from a franchise.

- You need to make sure that the playbooks are setup to your default liking else you will endlessly need to change them

- You need to make sure the sim stats have been changed to reflect the strength of the teams else the 49ers will always be good and the Patriots will always be bad.

You can always find an already modded rom or moddify any rom yourself. www.emuare.com contains the tools for making most text changes in the game.

Also replacing the graphics chip is another viable option. What fun is it to be the Ravens with the Cleveland Brown's helmet.

I have a bunch of roms on my site. (http://www.knobbe.org/mx/index.php?page=3&action=category&cat_id=14)

As far as good roms go, I'd recommend roms by Sblueman if simming that mirrors a NFL season is important, roms by Jeid for two player games, and roms by Denny for an all around "tecmo feel"

I have a question... In the updated version, are the players names just changed around, or do the new players actually have their own stats that are different from the original Tecmo Super Bowl. If they have their own new stats, I might have to get this game on a cart someday!

Stats have indeed been changed. You can change just about anything in the game.

Also for people thinking about getting it put on a cart, I'm working on a box design that I'll make available for download. (for people that want to print it out and make a box for their new Tecmo Super Bowl game) I've made boxes before and if you have a decent printer and use a card stock then glue it to another sheet of card stock you can make a nice box. :)

while I've never done it myself I believe it can be done very easily. over at knobbe.org they have all kinds of tools to hack the Tecmo Super Bowl game.

on a side note I got some friends coming over tonight and were going to have a little Tecmo Super Bowl tournement. We'll be using my updated cart and using all the teams that were in the playoffs this year. the Falcons will have another shot at the Super Bowl... well Tecmo Super Bowl :)

two of my roomies and I are nearing the playoffs in our Tecmo leaugue (using the official cart). I have guided the Phoenix Cardinals to a 14-0 start (i usually lose 1 game per season, figured i would lose 2 this year Cards have a tough schedule Eagles and Giants twice and they play the Niners).

anyone have any Tecmo records they would like to share, i am interested in how my stats compare.

I highly recommend Leonk: http://nesreproductions.com.

I updated the ROM classicb used & threw myself on the Cowboy's bench just for fun. :)

The cart he made looks just like a NES orginal, complete with a glossy label. There's no better way to play Tecmo Bowl than on the NES.

As far as stats go, my greatest acheivement is probably this:

One of the easiest ways to put a ROM on a SNES cart is to use Tototek's SNES flash cart, which is a cart that can be hooked up to your computer and burned and reburned over and over again with SNES ROMs.

I would still need somebody too do it for me since I lack any of the skills needed to do such a thing. I would love it if somebody could do it for me. Plus I don't want something sticking out of the cart. I want a new cart with a label like my NES one. I don't mind if I have to have a new one made every year or every other year (which is my plan). I'd be willing to pay $35 if someone could do it for me. :)

OK I wasn't sure were to post this but I was checking out the DP data base and I know they give + for recommended games and - for crappy games. I couldn't believe that my favorite game of all time didn't get a +from DP. It is by far the best football game on the NES and it paved the way for all football games to come. I don't see how this game didn't get a + symbol. I'm so comfused the only thing I can do right now is go play a game of Tecmo Super Bowl.

OK while many will be shelling out for the new Madden soon I'll be shelling out for a new NES Repreduction. The new Tecmo Super Bowl Roms are out and they are playing great. Right now there are two offerings over at Tecmo Repository ( http://www.knobbe.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=34 ) Depending on if you want a pre season Rom with rookies or if you want a post season Rom with stats based on last seasons results. Either way both seem to play well. I personally will be going with the 06 preseason Rom.

I will be having leonk (DP member) over at nesreproductions.com make me a new cart soon with the 06 roster. I will be making a new label with two versions. One with Chargers (underated RB) Ladainian Tomlinson on the cover and one blank available to anyone who wants to put whoever they want on the cover. I'll also be making a box print out available for download so you can fold and paste your way to completly new updated Tecmo Super Bowl.

Don't forget Tecmo Super Bowl is online and very active.

They seem to make one for every Tecmo Bowl version. Although only Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) gets regular updates each year. The rest of them get new versions every once in awhile. The best place to look for new roms is at the Tecmo Repository.

Hey guys, I'm wondering if you could help me with a little Tecmo info...

I havent played Tecmo football since I was a kid, loving every second of it! However, I can't remember which version that I'd played as I never actually owned the game, I used to play it at a friend's. What were the major differences between the two games? Maybe some help from you guys can jumpstart my memory...

Thanks!

Dobie
09-04-2005, 07:38 PM
The biggest, most obvious difference between the two is the number of players on the field. The original only had eight per team, while TSB had the full 11. TSB had all of the NFL teams, while Tecmo Bowl did not. Original also limited you to four plays, TSB had eight. Lots of other differences, but that should be enough for you to find the game you want.

I'll just add that Tecmo Bowl had a password system and Tecmo Super Bowl had a very cool Season mode with stat tracking.

Since this has been resurrected, I'd just like to say what a damn shame it is that Carolina lost, meaning my main Tecmo man Ricky Proehl will not be heading to the Super Bowl. It would also appear that there are no remaining Tecmo players on the Steelers or Seahawks, though Chris Gardocki is darn close.

Does anybody else have a list of those from TSB left in the NFL? I have one here somewhere but I wanted to double check it. Last I remember, there were about nine to go.

Yeah... that's what I have except you can add Sean Landeta to the list (for now anyway). He punted in the final five games of the season for Philadelphia. Of course, being 43, you'd have to guess he's going back into retirement this offseason.

Tupa's still around, though? I didn't realize that. Vinny's done for sure, and I heard Deion talking retirement (same with Proehl). Is Seau coming back for another year? I know he was hurt but didn't really pay attention to Miami this year.

If he is coming back for at least one year, I'd lay odds on him staying for 2 or 3 and being the last one standing. The punters are all getting up there in years or else I might take one of them.

Just finished playing a few games with my neighbor and we both came to the conclusion that the horizontal viewpoint just may be the best aspect of the game. Not only does it just look awesome to go deep (and is similar to TV presentation), I find it more natural to play defense. In the modern games, moving in towards the screen to sack the QB always felt a bit off to me. So while my pals are getting the latest Madden, I'll be dropping back for a 90 yrd bomb ;)

I love Tecmo Super Bowl.

I've seen some very nice hacks. I tried to do one myself at one point with the stat editor program, but I got lazy and gave up early on.

The Bills are evil. Bruce Smith is evil, and the THURMANATOR is quite possibly the most evil player in the game. I can beat the Bills, but I still can't beat them consistently. It's just not possible, especially late in the season once the AI has gotten better.

I oughta play another game soon.

Also, I sometimes randomly post this screenshot on sports message boards.

I just wanted to say this is an awesome topic, and Tecmo Super Bowl is my favorite sports game ever. One of my most cherished NES games. The SNES ones are good too, but I've spent way more hours on the NES ones.

I may have to get one of those new roster carts in the future. It's really a shame this game doesn't get updated as much as Madden does, but then again, they would probably make it 3D and screw it up, not to mention Tecmo Super Bowl III was the "Final Edition". :(

I played the 06-07 rom last night and was a little disappointed. Not that I *mind* playing with Ricky Williams, I just don't understand why you'd keep him in the lineup this year considering he's playing for my home town Argos due to his suspension...

(Plus I beat the Steelers 49-0 in my first game. I don't *ever* win that badly, which makes me wonder if some of the stats were souped up. Taylor had an *awful* lot of sacks, to say nothing of the 3 safties...)

It has all Roms and editors that a TSB fan would want.
Some of the more recent ROMs are getting very good.
Check out the CIFL one and the Time Machine one.
All very good.

I have been browsing through this site and this thread finally made me join the fun.

Can anyone help me solve a bug with techmo super bowl?

There seems to be a bug with running plays. Every time I go to make a run play it always does the same play regardless of the one I pick. After the ball is in play the RB takes the ball from the QB and then an animation screen pops up showing the RB jumping over the center. I can't get any of the running plays to actually allow me to control the player movements.

The throwing plays all work fine, it's just the rushing plays that always that seem to be bugged.

I can play the game as it is but then I'm stuck doing only throws. So if anyone has heard of this bug or know of any kind of solution it would be great.

I've tried multiple emulators so it's got to be the game itself. I haven't been able to find any other ROM than the one I have.

If you love old school Tecmo, you'll be happy to hear that the new Tecmo Bowl Throwback will feature all the SNES stats!

A pretty nice work around to get the classic teams and players in there. But the league has more teams--I wonder what Tecmo ill do with the extra slots?
