View Full Version : I own the system, but only ONE game for it...

Hey Gang!

This weekend, I came (((this))) close to buying a Gamecube simply so I could also buy Dragon's Lair 3D to play. That's it. I don't have any hatred for the GC, but I have no interest in collecting for it either. So, had I purchased this set (my money went elsewhere), DL3D would've been - literally - the only game for it.

So, how many of you have a system but only one game for it? I assume in these situations, it'd be for a game that was a system exclusive ala Halo/Xbox or a classic game you enjoyed, but it was only available on one system. (I had a friend that had a 2600 and Adventure only, just because he liked the game so much.)

I don't want to hear about systems you plan to buy MORE games for - just those you keep around simply to play that one game. What system and game is it?

I'll get a PS2 just for Dragon Quest VIII.

Bought an Xbox just for Conker: Live and Reloaded... managed to get a decent 25 games since 10 / 25 / 04.

i went out and bought a GameCube about this time last year, just for Eternal Darkness. Since then, havent stopped buying and trading in used games or buy new ones.

Hmm, I would keep a Game Boy around just for Operation C. I'd also be set with the Phantasy Star RPGs and the Shinobi games for my Nomad.

Oh...and I started a new game of Metroid Prime last night. Fun :)

Not so much anyore, but I used to have a bunch of hardware with no software.

Generally because the hardware was brand new, sealed, and I never had any intention of cracking the box and playing it anyway.

I had an AV Famicom and Super Famicom Jr., both new and sealed, never bought any FC or SFC software. I had a Wonderswan and ONE game, which I played for all of three minutes. Actually, it was probably a good game, but I just didn't have the time. Old-skool SFC-style 2D Gundam Strategy game, I love those.

Oh I got a sadder one, I simply got a Jaguar to just have DOOM and Wolfenstien 3D because I didnt have a PC until Dec of 1995 :embarrassed:

Ew, what about the SNES versions? DOOM didn't come out for a while but Wolf3D was an earlier one.

Hmm...I know the 32x DOOM's music sounds like crap, just utterly horrible, but I can't really remember what the Jaguar one sounds like. I know the 3DO version's got the sweetest soundtrack going though! :D

There was no music in Jaguar sadly lol The only time you heard BGM is when you finished a level.

Which reminds me, the 3DO verison is a direct port of the Jaguar verison, by finally using those missing tracks the Jaguar had.

I got a kick out of the 32X verison, when the pink Demons cant turn, they are always facing you....barely no animation....looks like they are dancing

Nearly all my system purchases start out with the idea of playing ONE game (Star Ocean 3 for PS2, Dracula X: Rondo of Blood for PC Engine, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon for GBA, etc.), but I always find more to play and love later and I know that'll happen when I buy it. I don't understand the idea of "I don't want to collect for it, so it's just for that one game". Who says you have to "collect"; just find a few more games to play and enjoy on the console to make the purchase a little more worthwhile. o_O If anybody is trying to suggest that there's only ONE good game for any system, that's a complete joke. Even my most disliked systems have at least a few games I consider enjoyable.

I only own my PS2 for the games I can't get on GC or Xbox.
I'm surprised with all the talk of Jaguar some one didn't mention this one,
a friend of mine owns one only for Jag- Aliens vs Predator.
Another one for me is my 3DO- I own a few games for it but only ever play Cannon Fodder.

A friend of mine wants to buy an NES solely for Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

As for me, Sonic CD would be the only reason I'd bother to get a Sega CD, although I'm sure I'd find something else I'd like for it later on.

LOL

What is wrong with your friend? That game is horrible. I know alot of people that own a NES and only have Mario 1 or 3.

I've got quite a few, but the thing is, I have bought the systems at the Flea Market or some other place for a reasonable price and haven't found the games at a reasonable price yet. I get a system and I normally just don't jump on eBay and start buying games. Cept for the case of my Wonderswan Color. :D Cmos <3 Querjek

Channel F (version 2) & Video Cart 1

Neo Geo AES & Fatal Fury (though I have a few MVS carts and a converter)

Neo Geo CD & Sam Sho RPG

Neo Geo Pocket Color & Sam Sho 2

Wonder Swan Color & Rhyme Rider Kerorican

Anyone know where I can get some semi cheap Wonderswan Color Games? :D

Nintendo DS and Mario 64 DS for me.

Also for my Nuon I only got Ballistic and Tempest 3000. But Ballistic came with the system, if it hadn't I'd only have Tempest 3000. My nuon setup would also fall under "Systems you own and have games for but don't own any controllers for".

Circa 94' I had a Genesis just to play landstalker, a NES with Dragon Ball and a PC Engine GT with Street Fighter... the SNES and Jaguar + CD were the core with over 18 games on each... and to think I had to sell it all to go for college :(

I own a 3DO just so I can play it's port of Star Control 2.

I have an Atari 5200 and the only game I have is Super Breakout.

I want a GC just so I can play the Zelda Promo disc with the 4 Zelda games on it. The reason I don't buy one is that I can;t find any oter games that I REALLY want.

That's probably it.

I own a 3DO only for the Incredible Machine and Lost Eden. I had bought a bunch of other stuff for the system to play, but I ended up selling everything but those two games. When it came to selling the system, I decided I had to keep it just for those two games.

And for the record, I don't think Who Framed Roger Rabbit was a bad game at all. In fact, I love that game!

DOOM 32x sucked so hard. I remember one year for Christmas my main present was a 32x and Doom (the system had just come out at the time), and I got it all set up and played it and was like "what the hell is this?" It also pissed me off that it only had 15 levels.

Anyway I got an Xbox just for OutRun 2.

The only reason I have that lovable little genesis tumor known as the 32X is for Knuckles chaotix. Which I got in august and still haven't played because I'm too damn lazy to hook up the 32x. LOL

For the longest time, I had a PS2 and a lone copy of Contra: Shattered Soldier. I've since expanded that to about 30 games, but it was several months before I bought my 2nd game for the system.

I bought my PS One just so I could play Star Ocean: Second Story. No other games are allowed on it, unless they are mint.

I own a Neo Geo Pocket (B/W one) and only have King of Fighters R1 (import) for it.

I originally bought my PS2 just for ICO, but discovered a bunch of other good games for it.

I often start off each new system with just one game....

N64: Mario 64
PSX: WipEout
Xbox: Halo
GBA: F-Zero X
DC: NFL2K

It's a combination of lack of money and lack of decent games at or near launch.

Other than that I have a VB and Mario Tennis, and maybe once a year I take it out and play for 15 or 30 minutes. @_@

PlayStation - Gran Turismo.

Back in the day, I came oh so close to ditching my N64 just so I could play Gran Turismo.

And heck, when I finally got around to getting a PS2, GT1 and GT3 were the first games I bought.

Dreamcast - Sega Rally 2.

Even though I knew the Dreamcast had a hell of a lot of great games, the one that made me buy one was Sega Rally 2.

GameCube - Super Smash Bros. Melee.

If it weren't for this game, I wouldn't play my GCN.

Xbox - Panzer Dragoon Orta.

I bought the console for the express reason of playing this game.

the only reason i still keep a 3DO around is for road rash; i used to work at a&m records and electronic arts sent a whole bunch of their 3DO games to the office when road rash was released. all but the one have since gone away. i just have to keep a game that has swervedriver and hammerbox and monster magnet in it.

i don't suppose there's any way to be able to watch the swervedriver video in it outside of a 3DO...
