Just a simple question out of curiosity.

Can and Will the regular PlayStation read and play copied disk (or CD-R / CD-RW)
of it's games. Wanting to know if I can copy a few game disks and run the copies on the system while keeping the origionals in a safe, out-of-easy-reach place.

If the only way to do this would be to somehow mod the system (as you have to the PS2 to play most copied versions of its games) pleas tell me how, but if anybody knows any other way where I would not have to crack open the system (even some sort of chipless mod), I would prefer to go in that direction.

Thank you in advance for any info you can provide. :D

To be able to play backed up copies of your valued PS1 games, you need a mod chip installed. This will also gove the added benefit of allowing the play of import originals, or back ups of your valued imports.

The nest generally accepted, and reasonably easy to install PS1 modchip is the Stealth 5.

Some versions of the PS1 allow the use of some sort of boot disk and game shark dongle, to do a disc swap trick to allow the play of backups, but I really have no idea how those work.

Well if anybody can tell me how to do the GameShark or other cheat disk (primairily I woul like to know if it is possible with Action Replay, as that is what I have), then PLEASE tell me how to do that. And if it is a special disk other than the GamShark or Action Replay, Please tell me anyway as I will try to buy the appropieate disk.

Now as for the Mod-Chip method that you have mentioned, omnedon, where can I find this at a GOOD, or at least Fair price. And where can I find EXTREAMLY EAZY, like, picture, step-by-step instructions on how to instal one.

I would just like to say now that I have the smaller, later release PS1, because I know that the instides will proably be diffrent in the diffrent models.

Thank You so much for your helps guys. This is ver important to me. :)

Thank You so much for your help omnedon.

I am still looking for a way to play backups using some sort of booting methode, such as special disks, if anyone can help me with that. I really do not want to have to open up my system and install something and risk messing it all up, but I guess if no one eles out there will help another gamer with his trobles :( , I'll just go with the one that has helped me out.

Thank You so much again omnedon, and if I can not find any other way to do this, I will be considering your mod-chip plan :) .

I still need some help guys, if possible.

Thanks again.

It would be easier to do and cheaper on the original playstation. Those things seem to be a dime a dozen, almost.

Swap discs abuse transport grips.

Modchips abuse lasers.

LOL

Thanks Damion.

I am pretty sure that a local-used-video-game store has had one of these the last several times that I have gone there, I just never really looked to see what it was, and even if I did, it wasn't until very recently that I decided that I must have a way to plar copies/backups.

Well, I guess I will check out that store as soon as I can, ASAP, to see their price on this disk. I will proably buy it from them unless the price is to hight, in which case I will probly buy this off of that website.

Thank You all, for all your help! :)
