Hell, today is the first time i went to a gamecrazy.
I thought that it would be the same as EB/Gamestop kinda like the store where if you ask the clerk wtf is up with their release dates, they tell you "oh, sorry it ain't out yet, but we have halo2/thug2 though...", but it was all different.
The clerk was very aware of what his job was, wich is not only to sell games, but actually he knows what he's selling/buying. He seemed pretty much like a collector himself, and was helpful on everything i asked (instead of shitting on why i wanted to buy a saturn, he pointed me to places where i would be able to find one).
Anyhoo i scored a raiden trad for 7.99 over there (genny version).
Anyways, i recommend gamecrazy for some of your retro needs, not only because they have a lot of stuff, but mainly because they know their stuff.
On the dark side of the force, and for you all to laugh, i saw a jaguar, no hookups no anything, for 85, a dreamcast sports edition w/controller for 45, and get this, star wars arcade for the 32x for the minimal quantity of 53 bux!! (all of this on pawn shops)

gamecrazy employees are just as worthless as EB and gamestop employees, you were just lucky and found some random employee who was actually nice.

yeah I agree its normally hit or miss with these stores mostly miss. Even at the same store. My Game Crazy sucked for the longest time because they would throw out all their boxes "to save space". The manager didn't know shit and then they change managers and he's really cool and keeps the boxes which makes me happy because they don't charge anymore for having the box.
Overall 9 times out of 10 the employees are totally worthless.

yeah, i'm going to have to sort of disagree. ;) the people in my gamecrazy are (excuse my french) dip-shits. how many times am i going to have to get my address fixed so i can start receiving my free EGM sub? going on 3 because its still not right. but they do at least carry anything NES on, which is nice. because nobody around me really carries anything retro. and the prices aren't terrible either. so i like the store, hate the staff.

I had a similar experience at 2 of my local Gamecrazys. I was able to discuss all kinds of 2D fighters, controllers and release dates with the clerks. Its nice to talk to people who enjoy their job. I do have to agree that it was probably nothing more than luck though.

I just was in my game crazy two days ago buying stuff, really good people at mine. But one of the guys is kinda a collector so some stuff is picked over.
They do have alot of retro crap at mine though, man they must have 30 gameboy colors all diff colors and a bunch of gamegear stuff just to name a lil bit.
The problem i find though it was the first time i went in awhile and they threw out hundreds of playstaion cases and dreamcast cases what a bunch of retards.

I was really impressed with the one near me. It's one of the only stores in the dc area that still carries items older then the normal N64/psx stuff. They did seem to have tossed all boxes though.

I really love Game Crazy, the workers around here are awesome and pretty much help you out with anything. If you want to try a GBA game then go ahead, if you want to play a preplayed game, try it. They don't complain or like get mad that you ask they just do it. They even set up a few tournaments for us on games we requested. Great place.

My gamecrazy is great. The people are nice and helpful, and they actually know what they're talking about. I've also found great stuff there, like my $4.99 copies of River City Ransom and mighty final fight.

Very nice find, I found a complete one once at GameStop for $5.99, ended up selling it for $25

Agreed. The only place that I have access to near my is a place called Multimedia 1.0 in the Village. They charge over ebay prices for EVERYTHING. They do have a kick-ass selection, but the prices are wayyy to high for me.

I actually used to really like one of the game crazys near me. Then one day I went in to look for a game and I saw the employees blowing into a Nintendo game to get it to work in a top loader. It truly mad me sick. I am not very easily annoyed but that sound is like nails on a chalk board to me. And to a defenseless top loader. I still go back every now and again but a lot of respect was lost that day.

I think I am blessed to live near a kick ass Game Crazy in Salem. I moved out of Salem for about 5 years, and started shopping at this Game Crazy when I moved back a few months ago. I need to ask them if they are affiliated with the stores you see in Hollywood Video, since their people wear their street clothes, know a lot more about games, and their selection rocks.

ya all the GameCrazy(ies) are owned by Hollywood video. I enjoyed my trips to the one near me, more so than the GameStops. I laughed when i asked if the had the Turbo-grafx, the manager said no, but i can put you on a list. I was like sure okay, i looked at the list and I asked what number would i be, he said around 200 @_@. The employees and gamecrazy know there stuffs, i was surprised they knew what a Intellivision or a TG-16 was. How does the GameCrazy Membership work?
Anywho, I've stopped going to one Gamestop. I called them to get a GameCube Joystick, for some reason they are called Arcade sticks now, and they had em. after i traveled over an hour, they had closed (and the guy didnt tell me they closed at 6pm and i called at 6:15)

Wait a minute...did you say Hollywood video?
Funny story......former district managers and managers of Hollywood video from Austin TX, left their jobs to begin their new jobs...at GAMESTOP
the local district manager here within the DFW and Waco area, was a former district Manager of Hollywood Video in Austin, TX
and during my time at GameStop from 2001 till 2002, three of the managers were former managers of Hollywood Video....

you really cant rate any chain across the board, its a matter of individual stores and employees. though gamecrazy gets brownie points for still carrying NES/Genny/SNES stuff
