Also should note that the developer is alive and well, it's just the Sega Sports brand that is gone.

Yeah, well it's mentioned in the link in that thread (see first post) that Take Two has acquired Virtual Concepts.

And without its main sports game studio, it's not surprising that Sega would close its Sega Sports division. Simple deduction.
