I'm gonna be honest, I can only think of three:

Wave Race, Doom 64 and Ocarina of Time.

I can't remember anything else on that system that was actually worth owning, and nine times out of ten when I even want to play it, its for one of those three games.

These were among the really few N64 games that managed to leave a lasting impression on me. To be perfectly honest I think Nintendo 64 had one of the worst libraries ever... The few good games it had were excellent though.

My top 5 list was fairly easy to come up with.

1) Paper Mario
2) The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
3) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
4) Mischief Makers
5) Mario Kart 64

These are also pretty much the only N64 games I've ever enjoyed enough to finish.

I agree with these three games, not much else on the 64. I've seriously considered selling my 64 collection off on ebay in a lot, but those three games have kept me from doing so.

Every other highly acclaimed title on the console is criminally overrated:

DK 64/Mario 64
Pilotwings 64
Excitebike 64
Goldeneye/Perfect Dark

Mediocre games at best. Poor 64. The games were so impressive for their time, but have aged very badly.

The N64 is really the only system I ever play anymore. So picking a top 5 is easy because alot N64 games are also some of my favorite games of all time.

The only games I play on the N64 are Excitebike 64 and Golden Eye.
I prefer the Zeldas on Gamecube.

Not sure why Excitebike didn't get an update on GC.
Anyway, I am going for the world record on some tracks.

I found Donkey Kong 64 and Excitebike 64 to be overrated, but I wouldn't say they've aged poorly. Donkey Kong 64 still looks impressive, especially considering it's a 12 year old game running on 15 year old hardware. Graphically, Rare did an amazing job and it could pass for a first-generation Dreamcast game.

To say Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark are "criminally overrated" is just plain incorrect. Those four games are masterpieces.

I never played any Dreamcast game in which large trees suddenly materialize when you come within 2 feet of them. DK 64 may look nice in stills, but the pop-up was horrendous.


To say Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark are "criminally overrated" is just plain incorrect. Those four games are masterpieces.

I actually really LOVE the N64. I loved the many sandbox-like platformers like Mario 64, Banjo's kazooie, Mystical Ninja and so on. I really miss games that are made like this...
