1.Goldeneye, What can I say? It's Goldeneye! Still the best(IMO) FPS of all time. I just love everything about it, the singleplayer, all the secrets and mystery surrounding this game(even to this day), the weapons, the music, and of course the amazing multiplayer. I've spend hundreds of hours on this game over the years and it's still a blast to play.

2.Super Mario 64, My favorite 3D platform game of all time, it's just great. Although the DS version makes this game obsolete I still like it alot for... 1.The controller 2.Being able to play on a nice sized screen

3.The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I'm not a big fan of the Zelda series, but this game is Legendary, it lives up to all the hyper and what most people tend to say about it. Everything from the music and sound effects to the levels, ect make this game a true classic.

4.Mystical Ninja: Staring Goemon, It's weird, it's stupid, the storyline is terrible(in a confusing Japanese humor kind of way). But I love this game, and it's hard to really explain why.

5.Space Station Silicon Valley, Robot animals wage war on eachohter, in space! Basicly the game is GTA(only you control animals instead of cars). Although some of them do have wheels haha

What are your top 5 favorite N64 games?

Note: Please don't kill me if this has been done before, but I looked back a few pages and didn't see it. x_x

3. Banjo-Kazooie
4. Super Mario 64
5. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Super Mario 64- this game was enough reason when I saw it to immediately lay down nearly 400.00 CAN to get the machine with 1 control and this game, only to play it for the next 6 months straight.

Blastcorps- how many people made it to all the planets and had 8 platinum medals, the rest gold? very addictive! way too much fun!!!

Mario Kart 64- the best 4 player game(for non FPS players out there! even the wives will play this one!!) mastering the wall jumps is too cool( I've beaten Wario Stadium in 32 sec- not the perfect 21 sec run, but damn good!)

Top Gear Rally- groundbreaking racing! the first racing game to have absolutely NO background pop up! and you can spend days custom painting your own car

Perfect Dark- ohhhh joanna! didn't have the great multi player of Goldeneye(which was a near choice instead of this), but the one player game was more immersive- the computer AI much more intelligent. Too bad Rare can't make games now like they used to for Nintendo.

I have to give special mention to the Mario Party's, which are definately worthy- but only when considered as multi player.

No love for the StarFox64?

In no order:

Star Fox64
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (defenetly not as much as OoT though.)
GoldenEye
Flying Dragon (when I could understand it?)
Mortal Kombat Trilogy (better than the PSX version)
Super Smash Bros
Pokemon Stadium 1&2!!

1-Goldeneye
2-Mario Kart 64
3-Legend of Zelda OOT
4-Super Mario 64

These are also the only 4 games I enjoy on this system. And I've sampled over half the systems library via rentals from 1996 to 2001. I don't know what it is, but the above 4 (excellent) games are the only 4 I can go back to.

(in reverse order)

5.) Waverace 64 - As much a tech demo as a game, but I still remember the first time playing it.

4.) Mario Kart 64 - Rainbow Road pwns....I always liked racing more than battle here. Nintendo showed us that realism <> fun, as Diddy Kong, with the non-cheating opponents, just didn't keep anyone as interested.

3.) Goldeneye - I played endless hours of this. Basement w/Rocket Launchers or the Facility w/Proximity Mines (can you say 6 hour match?) are still the best scenarios.

2.) Zelda OOT - I just sat and watched the sun set....in a VIDEO GAME....I'd never done that before.

1.) Super Mario 64 - I consider this the best videogame ever made. I play all the way through it at least twice a year to remind me how much everything else sucks. I specifically collect Mario 64 stuff (I've got US ver, JP ver, and JP "Shindou" rumble-pak versions). I'd like to get a Demo-only store display cart someday too, if at all possible. I also collect any kind of SM64 launch/promo goods.

since n64 is one of my all time fav systems, as well as having some of my all time fav games this is a tough one

1) Super mario 64
probably my fav platform game ever. it just means so much to me.

2) Zelda OOT
one of the most epic adventures i had ever played

3) Smash bros.
I played hundreds of hours on multiplayer and signle player. kirby was ownage in this game, i was undefeated in multiplayer. 1v1 no items on the starfox lvl, you cant beat me.

4) Goldeneye 007
i didnt play 1 player a whole lot, but multiplayer will always be unsurpassed.

5) Diddy kong racing
the best racer ever. i still remember the tracks like it were yesterday. the tracks were just so varied, and multiplayer was a blast

5) mario kart 64
same as diddy kong, a very enjoyable racer

I don't know what it is about ISS...it's just a ton of fun. All of these would be surpassed by OoT as well, if I could only find a gold cart of it anywhere. Grr.

I didn't buy a lot of N64 games--I was still buying games for my Sega CD (don't laugh!)

But, I enjoyed:

Super Mario 64
Starfox 64 (the last N64 game I ever purchased and that was in 1997)
Killer Instinct
Blast Corp.
Mario Kart 64

I missed this thread...i MUST be playing too much FFXI. LOL

1/ World Driver Championship....hardcore racing sim. The N64's answer to Turismo.

2/ Super Mario 64...just as playable today as it was back then.

3/ Star Wars Shadows Of The Empire....I've clocked so much time on this game, looking for all of those challenge points. Immersive and fun.

4/ Turok Dinosaur Hunter....people rag on Turok. I don't see why. Huge environments and big annimated kickass weapons. NTHGTHDGDCRTDTRK. Turok rules forever.

5/ Ocarina Of Time....the one single game that, to this date, has brought me the biggest sense of accomplishment upon finishing it. I felt like I had truly been on an epic adventure. Sheer magic and wonderfulness.

My N64s have brought me so many warm n' fuzzy moments over the years. I'm nuts about the system. :D

1. Perfect Dark - because it's replay value is unparalled on the system.

2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - an experience I'll never forget.

3. Lylat Wars/StarFox 64 - one of the greatest 3D shooters of all time.

4. Top Gear Rally - the best racer on the system.

5. Mario Party - the best multiplayer game on the system.

This was harder than I thought since I don't really condsider myself a fan of this system, but maybe I should rethink that since it was pretty difficult to come up with a top 5.

Mario Kart 64

-F-Zero X: My favorite racing game of all time. Perfect control, awesome track design, great soundtrack, rock-solid 60fps, and randomly generated tracks. Can't ask for much more.

-Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness: Stop laughing. This is actually a great platformer, good sound and music, and cool levels and bosses.

-NBA Hangtime: The pinnacle of the NBA Jam franchise, my friend and I played this to death, and we were only defeated once by another human team. My psychotic clown named Beano is the master of the 3-pointer.

-The New Tetris: Awesome music, great VS modes, classic and new gameplay modes.

-Starfox: Classic shooter gameplay.

This is a tough one:

1. Mischief Makers- 2D side scrolling brilliance from treasure.

2. Conker's Bad Fur Day- Hilarious platformer. It's got singing poo! What more could you want?

3. Paper Mario- awesome mario RPG with excellent 2D Graphics.

4. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon- Crazy 3D zeldish adventure, with lots of confusing dialogue and a laugh track!

5. Goemon's Great Adventure- sequel to Mystical Ninja, this one's a side scrolling platformer.

Very close runners up: Zelda: OOT, Mario 64, Starfox 64, Super Smash Bros., Rocket: Robot on Wheels, Donkey Kong 64

Superman 64 by far BEST GAME EVER!

Colorado Rockies
07-13-2011, 02:37 PM
5. NFL Blitz - Still holds up remarkably well even today and is still the definitive version on any console especially w/ 4 players.
4. Paper Mario - Came out so late in the N64's life that it is sort of underappreciated.
3. Mario Tennis- The Best Version of Mario Tennis and a blast w/ 2-4 players.
2. Ogre Battle 64 - One of the handful of rpg's on the N64, and a very good one at that!
1. Goldeneye - The definitive multiplayer experience on the N64

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Super Mario 64

And Pilotwings 64 and WaveRace 64 aren't far behind.

Edit - Forgot about Monaco Grand Prix, for some reason I fell in love with that game. Easily the best console F1 racer I've ever played. I doubt there is another active N64 gamer out there with similar feelings towards it, but I love that game.

And it's behind all the others I've mentioned, but World Driver Championship is certainly in my top 10 list. Doesn't get remembered like it should these days.

Ogre Battle 64
Castlevania Legacy of Darkness
WWF Wrestlemania 2000
F Zero X
Goldeneye

Perfect Dark has better multiplayer, but Goldeneye has great multiplayer and a great single player campaign so it gets the win. Chose Wrestlemania 2000 over No Mercy. Also a few games that missed making the list were Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Star Wars Shadows of the Empire, and Jet Force Gemini.

I didn't own an N64, but I remember going over to my friend's house and playing Ocarina of Time. Back then the game was so amazing. It was the first game where you felt like you were in an actual adventure. I played it for 12 hours straight.

1. Magical Tetris Challenge Starring Mickey Mouse

Capcom-developed Tetris game starring Disney characters, it's arguably the best incarnation of Tetris I've ever played. Basically Battle Tetris as two players go head-to-head in a match and race to create lines and send wacky unwieldy blocks to their opponent. I really can't get enough of it.

2. Mario Tennis

There's something about Mario Tennis' awesomely fluid gameplay and extremely competitive nature that makes this a real favorite for when I have friends over. Doubles leads to some legendary matches and awesome times!

3. Super Smash Bros.

What can I say about Smash Bros. that hasn't already been said? Excellent 4-player 3D Fighter with wacky items and great balance (Something the sequels, particularly Brawl, kind of lost in my opinion.)

4. Pokemon Stadium/2 (I play them both for the Minigames when friends come over.)

I don't play Pokemon Stadium for the actual Pokemon battles, as I find them kind of boring. The Minigames could really be a game on their own here, I love playing these with 4-5 Friends. There's a nice diversity and the system is set up so that it works well for tournaments!

5. F-Zero X

F-Zero for SNES taken to the next level! More karts, more flexibility, more customization, more tracks, more everything! While Mario Kart 64 hasn't aged so gracefully, this game on the other hand is timeless!

I really enjoy the N64 and this list could change tomorrow:

A)WWF No Mercy - best wrestling game ever, yes, better than Virtual Pro Wrestling 2
B)Super Mario 64 - possibly my favorite game of all time
C)Mario Kart 64 - best version in the series, still to this day
D)Goldeneye - both single and multi-player are still a blast to play today
E)Pokemon Snap - best Poke-game ever, in desperate need of a sequel

Honorable mention - Sin and Punishment; Dr. Mario 64; Paper Mario; Blast Corps; Banjo-Kazooie; Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time; Star Fox 64; Wrestlemania 2000; Shadows of the Empire; Conker's Bad Fur Day; Bomberman 64 (US)

Well, it should be obvious, the N64 wanged chung when it came to third party games.

I'm surprised I didn't see this back in '05.

I have never been more disappointed by a console that I bought than the N64. Having said that, there were a few titles that I still find worth playing:

Robotron 64
WaveRace 64
Conker's Bad Fur Day
F-Zero X
Goldeneye

Perfect Dark would be the sixth. Beyond those six, I find it hard to find much that is enjoyable for more than a couple minutes. I will say I haven't played Paper Mario yet though, and expect that I will enjoy it when I do.

5. Conker's Bad Fur Day
4. Custom Robo
3. Banjo-Tooie
2. Donkey Kong 64
1. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

I always preferred Majora's Mask, but everyone thought it was weird. I dunno, probably is. I felt like the gameplay was more polished than Ocarina, and no doubt I respect it equally, plus the time element made it so much more intuitive, and challenging. And, at times, gave a real sense of urgency.

That too is also the best version of Tetris I've played. In fact, it was the first Tetris game I ever played. At the time I had no idea what Tetris even was but it was a new game to rent so I did and I really enjoyed it. Not sure If i'd put it in my top 5 as it's been over 10 years since I've played it, but I would definitely like to get a complete copy someday.

As for top 5, boy I really don't know. I've been going for a complete set since 2004. I'm around 130 complete right now. I know it sounds like a long time but I'm cruisin towards a complete Cube set and I just don't care to resort to ebay. Anyway, the beauty of going for a complete set is that it enables you to encounter gems that you wouldn't have otherwise. That said, here are some I have the deepest memories of...

NBA Hangtime-My brothers and I played this all the time in the summer of 1999. It's a reason to own four controllers. It had a follow up of sorts called NBA Showtime which I also pull out from time to time and get addicted to all over again. It's one of the least graphic pushing titles on the system, but when you're playing you don't really care.

Goemon's Great Adventure-Probably the best side scroller on the system. Great soundtrack, intriguing japanese voiceovers and the side missions in the towns are not redundant. I love how the music in the towns change at night.

Winback: Covert Opperations-I came for the stealth action this game offered and stayed for the story. You're on a covert mission when your plane crashes and you discover one of your team mates is a traitor. Great who-done-it. It's a well made A-list N64 title that's not from Rare or Nintendo.

The World is Not Enough-I'm willing to play pretty much anything (even finished both Elmo N64 titles) but this is the first and only (so far) FPS I've beaten. Very cinematic, with voice overs, clear objectives that grapple you from one plot point to another and gorgeous open levels. Games like this, Sin and Punishment, Spiderman, Conker and Mrs. Pacman Maze Madness really showed off what the N64 could do and gave the console what it deserved at the end of its life.

Mrs Pac Man Maze Madness-I rented and bought the PS1 version first and loved it. Very fascinated to try out and compare the N64 version. The music is extremely shortened but In the end I just didn't care. I finished the game at 100% completion. I would constantly get stuck and die in one area and just keep on going at it. The graphics are better than the PS1 version. Very clear and crisp. Easily one of the best updates of any classic.

Sin and Punishment-The Dreamcast really spoiled me when the Cube,Xbox and PS2 came out. I would look at a game and go, "meh, the Dreamcast did the same thing 2 years ago". I was unprepared to be blown away at how incredible this looked. I really thought I had seen all the N64 could do. Just a month before owning it (Nov 2004) I purchased Stunt Racer 64 and was dazzled by that as well. Then I played this. It's really a game that all N64 owners should play.

Tarzan-This may seem like an odd choice, but it's definitely in the vein of the great Disney games like Aladdin, The Lion King and World of Illusions. I still go back to it once in a while even after beating it. That's rare these days given how much I've accumulated in my collection and how little time I have. The levels are lively, the music is great and some of the levels are also very atmospheric, like the level called "The Treehouse" where you journey to the Treehouse to discover Tarzans past. Quiet and kind of eerie.

There are plenty more I liked just as much as the ones I've mention but the OP said only 5 and I'm pushing it with 6 but upon reading the topic these are the ones that just instantly triggered some fond memories for me. Great Topic

Not in any particular order:

Conker's Bad Fur Day
Star Fox 64
Mario Kart 64
Legend of Zelda: OoT
Jet Force Gemini

Some games were difficult to exclude like Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, Mario 64. I've never been a particular fan of Super Smash Bros, I think the sequels were more polished and better overall than this game.

I always preferred Majora's Mask, but everyone thought it was weird. I dunno, probably is. I felt like the gameplay was more polished than Ocarina, and no doubt I respect it equally, plus the time element made it so much more intuitive, and challenging. And, at times, gave a real sense of urgency.
i passed up on it back then as i am one of these strange guys who didn't like OoT that much (my favorite Zelda has been ALttP until TP arrived). Maybe i should give it a go, but i've always been afraid of being put off by it's 3 days timer.

The 3 day timer isn't really all that bad since you can slow down/speed up time with the ocarina. There is always enough time to finish a dungeon and quests in the area around it and it takes about an hour to hour and a half to finish up an area (in real time) when using a guide and by then I'm usually ready to take a break. So after an areas done play the ocarina to go back to the first day (which saves the game) and come back later. I think the 3 day cycle is pretty conveiniant.

Yep, the timer really isn't an issue.

It's basically a story element to the game (To give the player a sense of impending doom) and allowed them to create a heavily scripted series of unique days.

From a practical point of view, it doesn't really affect the experience playing it. You're not rushed to finish anything and you have ample time to complete a task before finishing and playing the Ocarina to save and return to day 1.

It's great to see so many people mentioning Goemon's Great Adventure. Usually it feels like the N64 game that time forgot. I don't know how such an absolutely stellar can be so unknown and under-appreciated (well, it probably doesn't help that a lot of people spread the BS that the N64 doesn't have any worthwhile third-party titles). I also find it saddening that Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon tends to get much more attention than Goemon's Great Adventure. It's a fun game, but I don't think it's remotely as good nor polished. I guess a lot of people would just rather have Zelda Lite than an amazingly good side-scrolling 3D platformer.

The third Goemon N64 release, which never left Japan, is a really fun game too, although it's nothing like the other two. It's a Sugoroku-based card board game. Like Culdcept, basically.

HM64 hits some sort of weird pleasure center in my brain that nothing else has really ever quite touched. I love that game.

I will never understand why so many people don't like the N64. They must have not played it in summer and fall 1996 when it was blowing the minds of tons of people. The jump in graphics quality from the PlayStation to the N64 was pretty staggering and the analog joystick was a huge innovation, as was the rumble pak. Obviously, we are still using those today in modern controllers. I actually much prefer the N64 games released in 1996 and 1997. It seems to me, at first, Nintendo stuck with their "quality over quantity" approach and released not very many games but the quality of the games was outstanding. Then by sometime in 1998 it seemed like a bunch of crap starting coming out on the system, like Nintendo just said "Screw it" when they saw how badly the PlayStation was winning the console war. Maybe Nintendo figured Sony's approach of "the more games the better, no matter the quality" would work. Anyhow, these are some of my fav N64 games:

SM64
Pilotwings
Wave Race 64
KI Gold
GE 007
MK Trilogy
SW SOTE
MK 64
DK Racing
StarFox 64
Doom 64

1 - Waverace 64: Such an amazing showcase game for the N64. The sequel on the Gamecube was better looking, but there was something about the water physics in this game that nailed it.

2 - Pilot Wings 64: I wasn't a big fan of the original game, but it was still entertaining in short doses. This version was all-around better, especially since you could save your progress without a stupid code.

3 - Super Mario 64: Some call it the greatest game of all-time, but I prefer to think of it as the 3rd greatest Super Mario game.

4 - Star Wars: Rogue Squadron: Toss Shadows of the Empire aside, this was the Star Wars game we'd waited for on the N64. I enjoyed it so much, that the moment I saw the screen shots for the Gamecube version, I bought that console as well.

5 - Ogre Battle 64: It's Ogre Battle, what more needs to be said.

I HATE the N64 - or I should say - I love it but the graphic chips/techniques they used makes me feel nauseous on practically every 3D game. That said, here are my top 5:

1. Rayman 2
2. International Superstar Soccer '98
3. Sin and Punishment
4. Pilot Wings 64
5. Bakuretsu Muteki Bangai-O

It is very difficult for me to narrow down to five games for this system. There are so many games that I like on the N64. The tendency is to name all the games that are favorites. Which are many for me.

1. Star Fox 64- still my favorite of the series, can't do without it.
2. Ridge Racer 64- Love this game, my favorite racer on the system.
3. Wipeout 64- Love the series and this is my favorite, and its on a cart.
4. Cruis'n Exotica- fun arcade crazy racer and best of the series on the N64.
5. Hydra thunder- Love this arcade experience on the N64.
6. Goemon's Great Adventure- This is a crazy fun side scrolling adventure.
7. Bust-A-Move- Great Puzzle favorite.
8. Extreme-G- racing cycle fun!
9. Beetle Adventure Racing- A lot of things going on here and it is done right.
10. Dark Rift- love this fighting game, I considered it under rated.
11. Star Wars Episode 1 Racer- Love this game.

I am going to try and hold back at this point. I could go on and name 10 or 15 more. Games like Paper Mario, OOT, and more. I love arcade gaming so my upper part of any listing will be dominated by those type of games.

 sorry that I went over five.

1. Super Mario 64 - this freaking started it all for me.

2. Mario Kart 64 - one of the best cart racers ever, easy to pick up and play and awesome with a bunch of people.

3. Battle Tanx - come on. You can blow anything up in this game. Like Atari 2600 Combat in 3D.

4. Blast Corps - I see a trend of destruction forming.

5. Wave Race 64 - simple, mindless arcade style racing.
