I have noticed that some stores are ALREADY treating the GC like another Dreamcast yet it has sold significantly more units both hardware and software wise than the DC ever came close too.
I guess it just doesnt compare to the #s that both PS2 and Xbox have sold though.
Im not sure why this pisses me off so much since I own both a PS2 and Xbox also but it seems that my favorite systems always fail or come in last in the race
It has been said on here that the majority of "successful" home consoles have often been the less powerful of its respective generation. I agree the current-gen race is a perfect example of this, Of course its all about the games and the PS2 and Xbox have more mass-market games that appeal to the millions of casual gamers out there but lets look at the facts shall we?
first I want to state that this is in no way (well maybe a little bit LOL ) a bias rant but be forwarned if you are a big PS2 fan then dont bother to read on ;)
Here goes: the PS2 is successful why?
its more powerful than the other two competing consoles? ....NO.
its well designed and has DVD playback and you only have to buy a multitap to play a fourplayer game? hmmmm NAAAA
I KNOW ITS becuase Sony made every casual gamer out there think it was the second coming for video games the end all be all and there was no escape from its grasp with overhype and plenty of $$$ thrown at a marketing bonanza like none we had ever seen before.
Never mind the fact that some games that are brilliant and oh so playable on Xbox or even Gamecube are hacked and cut to death to the point that all you look at is a loading screen every 5 minutes SPLINTER CELL anyone?
It may be becuase Sony actually knows how to compete in a cut-throat environment whereas Nintendo is off in lala land somewhere setting on their throne while the whole world (or in this case industry) changes around them.
Sure Microsoft spent and lost a lot of money to get its Xbox to a fairly successful #2 position but even they did so many things right where as the big N just seemed to shrug at the wants and needs of many of todays gamers whether they be casual or hardcore or WHATEVER.
Nintendo completely ignored online and never even tried to get other popular mass-market games such as GTA ported over to the very capable Gamecube.
a companies decisions are not always to blame though just look at what happend with Segas Dreamcast a well designed well marketed (for the most part) very capable (no jaggies :P ) machine that was wiped off the board by Sonys over-hyped Emotion engine bull$hit. there are maybe 2 multisystem ports that have actually turned out to look or play better on the PS2 compared to the Xbox or Gamecube versions NFS: HP2 being one of them.
I must admit that Ive been burned by the last 2 generations of consoles so yeah I guess it must be a biased point of view but I know there are many other gamers here especially on this board that must feel the same way.

OH well I guess that last drink i had went straight to my head...Im tired and i wanna go ta bed...hmmm.....hmm

Hey, I've gotten used to having the "other system"
Saturn
Dreamcast
Gamecube

Actually, If I buy a Playstation 3 or whatever, I can promise they'll come in third place. It happens everytime.

Not that I doubt you but does anyone know of any figured comparing Gamecube console sales and Dreamcast console sales?

The key to happiness is to not care who is first and who isn't. Buy the system(s) you like and enjoy 'em - don't sweat the bigger picture.

Not all retailers are going to treat a given system the same way. You should be able to find one that has love for the 'cube.

And you'll find plenty of love in a forum like this for anything you like!
