Suggestion:

in the list I made for myself for my SMS collecting, I always had a flag that showed weither or not I had beaten the game, and an alternate flag that I used to show if I had beaten it by using a cheat. I'd like to see this feature in the DP collections.

It makes choosing which game to play next a bit easier.

Also, an optional high score box would be nice too, especially if you could compare it against other DP-ers' scores.

YEAH! This guys thinking! You guys should( eventually) add these features.
The ability to mark games you have beaten , and adding your high score would be the coolest! :-P

Can't wait, personally. Then I can keep track with a nice printable list of games I need to buy. :) Hopefully it won't end up like my Discogs (http://www.discogs.com) wantlist, though, which is about six times the size of my collection.

...man, I can't wait for this. @_@

Here are some more ideas which I would like to see incorporated into later versions.

-A place to enter what price you paid for a game.

-A place to enter the date you bought the game. (These are both things I keep track of myself, and its difficult)

-Various graphs. For example, a line graph of number of games owned vs. release date or vs. date of purchase, to see a distribution of the age of your collection/rate of collection (It could label individuals "retro" or otherwise based on this, or not). Or, number of games owned vs. price paid, or DP worth, or DP rarity.

-Automatically telling your rarest game, most expensive game, etc.

-Tabulation of the total DP worth (I expect this will already happen), alongside the price you paid. (To see what sort of abstract "profit" or "loss" youve experienced.)

-The option to hide some of the info, specifically the "price paid".

-Its been mentioned, but the ability to record if you own the box and/or manual. It would be even better if the feature would automatically limit your selections to possible ones, and expand them when applicable. For example A Link to the Past would also have a check box for a map, while certain other games (demos?) would lack the option for an instruction book. I realize this is rather ambitious.

-Its up to individual judgement, but recording of condition (of each component if you wanted to get really fancy).

-Comments.

-I second the idea of the recording of which games have been beaten, etc.

-Ability to enter multiple copies of a game, with separate condition for each.

-A total of "unique" games, and a raw total.

-Percentage of boxed vs. loose, etc.

-A pie chart showing how many games owned for different systems?

-Ability to record hardware. Specifically systems (and with option of more than 1 of each). Perhaps it would be too detailed to record number and type of controllers.

-More statistics. Percentage of individual system libraries owned. Number of systems owned. Percentage of "plus", "minus", and "neutral" games owned.

-Really going overboard, but you could track the place of purchase, or the location of the collector, to get an idea of the geographical distribution of certain games. I swear some that are supposed to be common are really hard to find in my area.

-Also been mentioned, but a want/trade list system to automatically detect potential trades would be good.

-For fun, could somehow highlight which games "currently" being played. Could automatically link to others playing same game, for discussion or something.

-Adding "loose" manuals and boxes, with trade/want type options.

-Ability to sort list by many different criteria.

-The same sorting/graphing functionality for developer/publisher

Most of the statistics would be fairly easy to automatically tabulate. I am now out of ideas.

Personally, I don't really care for all that nitpicky stuff (when/where/why you bought the game)......as long as the list can:

Split the games by system (duh)
Alphabetizes the list
Gives option for complete/incomplete game tagging

then I'm a happy camper (or should I say gamer). :rocker:

you sure the servers can handle the load of about 3000 nerds all logging in at once to add there complete game collections all at one? @_@

Why, it would take some sort of bionic supernerd from the planet Mars to program something like that!

Zounds!

I've never used one of these, but I am interested in this one. A few things I'm wondering though:

I own some proto stuff and various things that aren't listed in the DP guide. For instance, I own a Jaguar Alien Vs. Predator proto. Will there be a way for me to track that?

Do you have control over making your lists public or private? I don't know if I would want to make my list public, but I wouldn't mind sharing the knowledge (such as average games, # of games per console and so on) with others.

All I need is the information that's missing. If it applies to our database (as your example certainly does), we'll add it - and then you'll be able to track it. That's the beauty of it really - we help you with your collection, you help us fill in any gaps!

Your lists will be public. At this time there's no plan to place securities around them but we're going to be adding and tinkering as we go along so if a real NEED arises we'll add it to the list of things to do.

Quite sure. Our server is rather buff. Actually, it doesn't take much bandwidth at all. It's much easier to support 3000 people flipping through HTML pages and making queries to the database than it would be to say... have one tenth of that downloading large files or streaming video. And even then, we'd be OK.

By the way, to those of you tinkering with this now please keep in mind that you'll need to "start over" when this thing launches - the entire database is being re-indexed this weekend so the games you're checking off today won't "match" the games when they're dropped back into the new system. Just a heads up! This is why I haven't announced anything being available just yet.

I was tinkering with it, and one thing I noticed is that there doesn't seem to be a way to uncheck something after it has been checked.

It'll sure be interesting to see what my collection looks like after you re-index!

Deletion is done on the view page, you can trick the view page if you know your forum userid... I'm trying to hack the forum user profile page to embed the links for viewing the lists; I've not had huge amounts of luck because I'm trying not to break Joe's forums.

Nothing changes - we do updates pretty frequently so they'll typicaly be no more than a month behind on the database. You can simply add them as they come in. I'll try to announce significant updates to any particular system, especially if it means new items have been added so that everyone can keep their personal lists up to date.

We're a little behind schedule, by the way. When the appropriate links and tweaks are fully tested I'll announce in this forum.

This is going to be great. I'll be able to check my list combined with the online rarity guide with my cellphone/pocket pc when I'm shopping at fleas, pawns and thrifts.

I know this is work in progress, but one thing I have noticed is that once you select an item as either "Pwn3d" or "Wanted" you cant uncheck the box as it's grayed in. Thus, if I have a game listed as "Wanted" and then I get it and check "Pwn3d" both boxes will now be checked. It doesn't remove the "wanted" check and there is no way to manually remove it. Not sure if you guys caught that, but I thought I 'd point it out.

This was answered previously, maybe in a different thread - you'll be able to uncheck your stuff from your actual LISTS. It will be much easier that way. By keeping the checkboxes filled on the search screen it gives you the ability to SORT on the fields you've marked as "owned", etc as priority.

I was on IGN today and I noticed something kinda cool. Don't know if this is being implemented, but again I'm curious -- and I'm by no means demanding. I've done enough database work at the GOAT Store to know how long that development takes...

Anywho, will there be a field for currently playing? I think it would be nice to be able to see who is currently playing a game and then PM them to ask questions or chat about it.

Just a thought. I am interested :)
