We've been promising this for a long time, and the time is now right around the corner!

Few would argue that our database (http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/search.cmf) is the most complete and comprehensive videogame resource that tracks virtually every system's game library, including imports, prototypes, hardware and homebrews, from the beginning of the electronic gaming era to the very present. With 35,000 line items it's been a great resource and the massive team behind keeping it updated is second to none.

Now to put that resource to work for you.

You've seen it on IGN.com, a way to click off the games that you own and add them to your own personal collection page. We'll have that, complete with the vital statistics on your own page (using your Roundtable forum login info) and links back to the game details from our database. You'll get quick info on the value of your collection and various ways to sort it, and of course, you'll be able to share your lists with other collectors.

As an added bonus, you will be able to create your own "wanted" and "for trade/sale" custom lists here as well, once again with the power of the database behind the scenes. No longer will you need to maintain your own off-line TXT files or build a website just so you can show your goods to others online.

As I've said many times before, our home is your home. We'll continue to do everything we can to bring gamers together here.

More details to follow - expect this feature to be available by Valentine's Day!

By Valentine's Day? Joe, if you weren't already married, I'd say you'd know the way to my heart! *swoons*

Seriously, though, this is great! I can't wait for it to be online. The IGN list, as good an idea as it is, is indeed incomplete and it's a tedious process too (adding/removing items takes too long in my opinion).

will the lists be able to be a copy and paste from excel? i have my games documented, but dont want to have to insert 3200 games into a database. thats why i stopped IGN.

just curious, im sure many of the users here have more games than theyd care to insert inidividually.

As much as I'd like something like that, it would present a whole new level of complexity to this project. I can say that adding to your list is really easy, it's done via the search results screen. So you can call up a list of virtually any kind and check 'em off that way, without having to wade through pages and pages of listings.

I'm not saying "never", but I can't say "now".

Will it include everything listed in the DP rarity guide? And will be be able to add entries that are not listed in the guide (i.e. imports that DP doesn't have lists of yet)?

It's an extension of the online guide itself - so you'll be able to add anything that you can see. If there are things missing from the database, let me know!

I had heard about his beeing in the works a while ago, and let me just say WOO-HOO! I am very excited. DP continually surpasses my every expectaction. I am so glad that I found you guys when I did.

One suggestion for future implementation: Add nintari-like matching feature so trading becomes much more streamlined. :D

I can't even begin to imagine how you'd implement cut'n'paste, so I can easily believe that would be a ways off, if it ever happened.

BUT, this leads me to suggest something that I think should be much easier, if you don't already have it in the works: multiple selections. I assume entering our items will involve selecting various listed choices. Given that, if possible it would be nice to permit multiple selections - either with a multiple item listbox, or checkboxes (and don't refresh the screen after each click, wait for a submit button), etc...

But I assume you guys already have all of the above covered.

AND:
Will hardware be included? Please?

As someone who just bought a bunch of VCS stuff (including homebrews) this couldn't have come at a better time!

Will this allow for want lists too?

And for those of us who are part of the 'collectors list' - are you just gonna take totals off of the database?

This is gonna be awsome...

This is great! I just manually compared my Genesis list with the DP complete Genesis list, and came up with at least a dozen cheap games I've been leaving on the shelves because I figured I already had them (going to pick them up tomorrow :D )...this service will effectively allow me to easily do this for my entire collection!

Thanks Joe...what an amazing gift to the gaming/collecting community!

How bout if you are a variation nut like me (and so many others). Will there be a way to organize your games this way? If not now, how soon or how hard with this be to do.

Any how i cannot wait.

I'm curious about this too. For example, I consider Gold Zelda and Gray Zelda (NES variants) to be two games in my personal collection. Will there be any way to account for this, or will there be a comments field like IGN for mention of such variants?

fantastic news, now if we only had a pc game list too

seriously, this is awesome, so, one question, will the db be able to do a "not in your collection" search than? that would be a very neat thing... (should be possible for every selection then, like "non-us games" so i can see which few are missing....... eh, yeah, just kidding LOL

While this is really a cool feature, I think I'll stick to the Playright list, due to a lot of missing PAL games in the DP lists, the ability to add missing games and the availability of computer games over there. But I guess most people here don't need these features anyway, so it's perfect for them =)

The first version of this will simply be "if it's on the database, you can add it to your own, want, or trade list". Variants would be handled in a future iteration of this tool, probably via a "comment" box where you can add your own text (which you can also throw condition, packaging, etc).

Oh this kicks ass. Lots and lots of ass is being kicked.

I always have trouble remembering which games I've actually added to my list when I buy something at home or away from the computer where my main list is.

Oh, and I know a Strategy Guide... err, guide is in the works, will we be able to add guides to our collection as well when this gets implemented?

And what about condition? Mainly speaking boxed, complete, loose, ect. It'd be FANTASTIC if we could specify all that as well. EDIT: I'm dumb. Maybe I should learn to read.

But at any rate, it's still going to kick massive ass. I can only imagine the amount of work done behind the scenes to make something like this happen. I remember when all the guides were just up in PDF form, you guys certainly have come quite a ways and it's great to see ;)

It will be integrated with the forums to some degree. You'll have your own link - it might not be necessary to link it to your profile as you can use it as your "www" field in your current profile, in your sig, etc. However, I'm hoping that we can work your forum profile into your collection page.

Not sure how much of these nice extras will get into v1.0 though, let's see how it goes as the build progresses.

I think it might be time to move on, though, and leave it for a better place. This is truely good news. Also, its at a good time. My personal collection just expanded LARGELY and it is still continuing to do so. By the time this feature comes up, I should be ready. Keep up the good work guys!

IGN didnt really bother me...except when you would email them to add a game and it would never happen

the values were off too, but if you ignored the values it wasnt a bad service at all, plus it allowed comments for all your games

here is my ign collection http://users.ign.com/collection/tholly

you can see i have a comment for every game i own

They could add a "stroke my ego" checkbox on your listings that auto boost your total value by 5%, that would have the same effect :)

Not much I can say that hasn't already been said, but the generosity and quality of the whole of DP "Industries" makes me glad that I'm part of their community....

Am I the only one that actually liked IGN?

Hey, if we used it we liked it, to some degree. But for collections of any size and with any sort of age it becomes frustrating. There were more than a few 2600 games I've recently acquired that just *aren't* listed. With the list coming from a site like DP, I know they're going to *be* there...

It'll work, if it also has complete PAL lists as well...

If it's just a tick box list that is.

Is there any way to make the DP one better than IGN? Ie, a way we can show whether or not a specific game is factory sealed or not, and whether it is complete / cart only / cart and manual Etc...?

I tried the IGN one, but gave up after ten minutes as it didn't have hardly any of th games I went to enter...

One more question - Will it also include current consoles (Ie, Xbox, PS2, GBA, Cube, Ngage Etc) as well as the upcoming new ones (DS, PSP, PS3, Xbox 2, Revolution)

Though it won't be in v1.0, we will have a comment area that you can add condition/completeness to later. We may be able to get a box and manual "yes/no" field into the first version as well.

One nice thing about this is that we're constantly updating and upgrading both our system and our content, so when you ask for things like this we can work on it if it's at all feasible.

One more question - Will it also include current consoles (Ie, Xbox, PS2, GBA, Cube, Ngage Etc) as well as the upcoming new ones (DS, PSP, PS3, Xbox 2, Revolution)

Everything you see in the current database! That includes everything you just listed. We won't have the most current games updated as they're released but pretty close - you should expect at LEAST monthly updates of new titles for current gen systems.

Thanks for the feedback!
