So get this:
All the Gamerush stores in Hawaii have to hold their used games 30 days before they are put on the shelf. It is some sort of law to protect people from thieves getting their games and then trading them in for cash. They call it a "pawn shop" law. What this means is they restock their used games everyday with stuff they bought 30 days ago. So ever day is my lucky day. I just go in and see what new 99cent games they have put out and pick them up. Today's score: DOA2, Marvel vs. Capcom, Capcom vs. SNK=$3.15

I know we have a thread about the 99cent finds but this seems strange enough to me to warrant a new post.

Anyone else have laws like this in their locality?

Interesting factoid. My current Regional Director of Operations (RDO) for Blockbuster has just accepted a position to "oversee" all GameRush stores.

Yes. Useless knowledge.

That "pawn shop law" is a real thing. It varies by state, in some I believe that it's only 15 days.

So basically this law is saying that if someone rips me off and tries to pawn off my stuff, the pawn shop will actually hold it for a few weeks before paying the thief?

In Australia it is 24 hours

No, they still get the money.

Yeah, the gap is just until the pwn shop can sell it themselves. Although the possible loss of cash gives a better incentive for the pawn owner to actually try to get a legit ID when they buy the goods.
