GameStop employees, I would really appreciate it, if you could answer a question for me.

How much money in sales does a typical GameStop store do per week?

I'm talking about gross sales, per week.

Or if it's easier, per month.

I'm trying to settle a bet between myself and this other guy.

I don't have any hard numbers for you, as I'm not a manager and don't have access to that sort of stuff. I can tell you however, that location has a lot to do with how well a Gamestop store does. The two main classes of Gamestop stores have very different types of crowds.

Mall stores tend to do much better in total sales, especially in new merchandise.

Strip stores tend to have less transactions, but do exponentially better in used trade-ins and used sales.

After all of this, you have to consider the month of the year. November and December sales numbers would be much higher than February, for instance.

When all these factors are combined, a week in sales could be anywhere from $8,000 to $50,000 - and those are just rough estimates from a lackey at the bottom of the Gamestop food chain. I could be way off.

I'm not there anymore, but I worked at a smaller GS that made about $1,000,000 per year, which comes to roughly $19,230.77 a week. A larger (average) store would probably make about $25,000-30,000 in a given week.

I could be mistaken, but I think Anthony1 is trying to open a shop.

In the mall store I managed for about two months, the entire store did less than one register would in a Best Buy or a Barnes & Noble. A Summer day with no important releases would bring over one thousand. A really bad day would not. It has to be said, though, that this was a really shitty store in the same mall with a great EB.

From a manager that I knew:

Good days could bring in up to $5000 or so, but were really rare.
Bad days were around $500-1000.

And it varies GREATLY by store.

It should be like the cafe in Back to the Future II , complete with Wild Gunman and the max headroom type displays.

You guys are so funny. And perceptive. Me and another gentleman are in the process of completeing a business plan and seeking venture capital for a totally new type of concept in video game retail.

I can't really go into any details, but if we ultimately are able to get funding, this will be an absolutely incredible video game store/gaming supercenter.

And for those of you that love the old schools, this store/gaming supercenter won't let you down. Our retail store will feature every major retro console, and games and accessories for them as well. And in the GameCenter part of the SuperCenter, we will have a "RetroZone" that will feature a living history of the video game medium.

However, the chances of us getting funded is pretty slim. It's going to take a huge effort to get a venture capitalist to share our vision. We are going to need to find a younger venture capitalist that also happens to be a avid gamer for us to get funded.

Anthony you better get going before it get's too crowded here in Sacramento. Game Cage just opened by my house. Game Cage is a newer chain based out of the Bay Area. It evolved from a mom and pop video rental store. I was talking to the guy in the store today and they started from nothing but a video rental store and have grown to over 6 stores. They also have one in Roseville. They only seem to kind of know what their doing and they seem to be doing well so I imagine that you know what you're doing and should do even better. I might also add that while I was in there many people were looking at the Retro games and asking about which Retro systems they had. They also have this very poor web site is you wanted to check them out

http://gamecage.org

Anyway they seem to be on the rise in Northern California and could be some potential compition if you get started.

Yeah, I'm going to have to check them out and see what they have going on. I'm guessing they are basically a GameStop, GameCrazy type clone.

Although what I'm doing is going to have a GameStop/GameCrazy type retail outfit inside it, the retail portion of our business will actually be one of the smallest segments of our gaming center.

In all honestly, we really won't be competing directly with GameStop or GameCrazy or EB Games or any other retail video games stores. Part of our business will compete with what they are doing, but people aren't going to come to our GameCenter for the retail part of our equation. Although, hopefully, while they are there anyways, they will decide to move their normal retail business from EB and GameStop to us, because of the side benefits that they will get out of the equation.

I wish you every success, im sick of corporate, shitty game retailers that only care about recent platforms.

Sounds like you have some good ideas Anthony1, best of luck with this... would be nice to see more shops that had a good retro selection and from the sound of what you have talked about you might have a few arcade machines as well as some PCs, Xboxs and PS2s set up for competition there there... tat is just a guess though. :D

I wish you would open one around here. Now that Funco is no more, there is no retro place at all. If I could go to a place for a pizza that had those old arcade games that were built into a table, I'd be there every week. There just aren't many places with character anymore, no matter what kind of store you're talking about.
