I'm wondering if the Sega CD, longbox Playstation, and Saturn cases are all the same size? Some of mine have cracks on the front case, and I want to replace them, but cases of these size are hard to find. So I'm wondering if these are the same size, because then I could swap a longbox Playstation case (which aren't too hard to find), with a Saturn case (which is harder to find).

I've got a complete longbox copy of the original Ridge Racer, even has a warranty card or something in it, and I need to get anothe box to swap it into (top portion of longbox is severely cracked).

Is there any kind of a definitive list for everything that ever came out for PSX longbox? That'd be a nice collection to have...

Sega Cd and Saturn are exactly the same. The Playstation Longboxes are roughly the same size, but the style is far different. They are made out of black plastic and cardboard.

I've never seen an official Playstation Long box with a clear case. The only ones I've ever seen have the picture bonded to the front and back cover, which ones have you seen in a Saturn Style case?

The clear PS longboxes are the same as Saturn and Sega CD cases.

Not all Long box cases are the same. Some of the tabs have different sizes sockets that go into certain size case notches and vice versa. I couldn't really describe with out a picture though.

I know what you mean, didn't think about that.

Sony actually bought those initial Saturn style cases off Sega, at least that's what some magazine(EGM or Gamefan) back then said.

Well what do you know, I learn something new everyday! I know some of the hinge sizes are different on Saturn Cases, not really a big deal though, only if you're mixing and matching.

So SOME PS1 longboxes are different? And the Saturn & Sega CD games are EXACTLY the same, right?

Heh heh. I took care of this problem a few years ago. Electronics Boutique (now EB games) had a deal where you buy any Saturn game, and you get a 3D Control pad (Nights controller) free. So I bought about a dozen $1 copies of NHL 97 and Madden something or other, got a dozen free (and new) Saturn 3D control pads, then used the games as case replacements for my cracked and broken GOOD Saturn games.

You might look into this. Buy some lot of shitty Saturn sports titles, and part them out.

/me steps in to help clear up some light.

There are 3 PS longbox types.....

Jewel case- This is exactly the same as the Sega CD/Saturn cases. In fact its said that Sony was so worried about getting enough cases made for launch its said that they bough a big number of extra cases from Sega to help prepare for the onslaught.

Ridged case- Where the infamous 'ridge' comes from thats printed on the insert of all the cases. It was taken from this ridged case.

Paper case- A cardboard case.

Also the Large jeweled cases can have different hindges depending on who manufactured the cases at the time for Sony/Sega. However I dont think it really matters all that much.

There are numerous games that have appeared in mutiple longboxes for the PS (ie Paper and Jewel), we're still working all that out though, as were occasionally finding things that made mutiple LB's or had a LB and a regular jeweled cd case version.
