Well I'm using another one of my screens and trying it with a Dreamcast this time.

The problem is going to be getting it portable.... The power supply would have to be 12v, 5v, and 3.3v.....

So does anyone have any ideas. I would need to take out the Dreamcast internal power supply and replace it with a power supply that would be 12v input and output the 12v, 5v, 3.3v....

Then I could just have a connector on the Dreamcast and use a 12v car adapter or a 12v Portable DVD Battery.

So if anyone has a stepdown converter that will do that let me know.
Otherwise I will have to canabalize some 12v car adapters... :D

LOL This one has proven to be a lot harder than I thought it would be.

A lot of Dremel Tooling and Sandpaper... :/

Cool... but yeah, finding a power supply from 12 to 12, 5, and 3.3 is gonna be tough. Of course you could rig up one with a few Zeners, but you'd need to make sure that you got the wattage correct, and probably something to keep the noise down. The AC inverter, then back to DC would be the easiest way, but that's really wasteful, and big :( .

I guess the other readily available way would be to rig one with one of those switchable universal voltage regulators... I'll bet that you could tap into the internals and pull 12, 5, and 3.3, but you'd need to be careful especially because even though a car electrical system is supposed to be 12V, they typically run around 14.4V, and you'd probably need to test under the same load as the dreamcast would normally pull.

So would'nt that be like a Treamcast? Well here's a handheld Dreamcast that I made. It run's off batteries and has a 5" psone screen. The batteries last for about 1 1/2 hrs or you can use a ac adapter..

Well if I had a way to make my own plastic molds I would. :P

I like your Portable Dreamcast. What exactly did you do for the 5v and 3.3v power ?

I'm not sure if your goal is to just build one, or to get one, but if it is the latter, a portable Dreamcast does exist. It's called the Treemcast and they tend to run around $200.

I see this thread, and through every post I'm thinking -

Post info in the new KB!

Seriously, I can follow instructions, but don't know how to rig something like this up myself.

Any of you that have pulled off something like the above, I'd love info on how to duplicate it.
