OK gamers!

The datbase has been re-indexed, the engine is humming, and the pages have been properly linked. The stage is now set for you to build your own collection lists, trade lists, and want lists right here at DP.

All you need is a forum ID, which you most likely have if you're here. Log in and head over to the database at http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/search.cmf

Every game you search for has three checkboxes to designate games as those you own, games you want, or games you have for trade. When you select them, they are instantly added to your own personal pages.

Your personal page links can be found by clicking on your profile link on the forums - not the profile editing screen link but your actual profile (look at any of your posts to find the profile button). Once in your collection pages you'll have links at the top to easily access your want list and for trade list.

ANYONE - not just Roundtable members, can view your lists, so feel free to share them with the outside (unwashed masses) world. :)

Most importanly, have fun with this! And feel free to e-mail or PM me if you have any questions. Remember the Guide and Databaee forum for any missing titles - we're constantly updating and expanding the database.

Once again, big ups for my partner SpasticFuctard who is simply brilliant.

HAVE FUN!

In time, son. It's going to take awhile! More likely I'll have my trade and want lists updated first :)

Very cool system, much better than IGN IMO :)

I do have a question, though. Let's say that I have a prototype of a game that was released. Is there some way for me to designate this, if the proto is not listed?

iIf it's something we're MISSING, I'd recommend posting the details in the Guide and Database forum. Include as much detail as you possibly can. We're working with the content every day, so it won't take more than a few days to get missing items into the database and consequently onto your lists.

For protos of games that were released, I think you'll have to use the upcoming comment box feature. I'd prefer not to add these to the database since techincally EVERY game could have a prototype version floating around somewhere!

finally it is out!
2 questions:
is there/will there be a place to check off what systems you have?
and is there/will there be a printable version of your list(without the digital press thing on it, just a printer-frindly version)?

One small request:

An update button that would be placed at the bottom of each page. I have been adding Dreamcast stuff and when I get to the bottom, I have to scroll all the way up to update my lists, and then down to hit next. I once forgot to do this and had to reclick the entire page.

A next / previous option at the top would be nice too.

This is cool though. Thanks a ton!

I'm sure I'm gonna get blasted for this but I need a little help here.
I've gone through the database and checked off the games I own, and at the top of the page there is a link that says "Click HERE to access your personal list" or something or other but when I click it it takes me to the forum main page, and I don't see anything there about my personal list.

What am I overlooking? 'Cause I know it's right in front of me.

Thanks.

(edit) LOL, I figured it out. Man, I really need to sleep more often.

All consoles should be accounted for in the database - just select the "hardware and peripherals" section or use "System" in the title line.

Cool! Been busy most of the day but now it's go time!

EDIT:

I love everything so far, most of all being able to have an active wanted and trade list but I have one small complaint:

When it comes to actually viewing a list, when I click on the system header, it will sort the games by system but not alphabetically. Sorting by title does the alphabetic part but the systems of course get jumbled everywhere. I always like to view by system and alphabetically by title...am I missing something? Is there a way to do this?

Thanks again DP and SF for doing this for us.

I just started mine with the 5200 and Virtual Boy. When I looked at my list, there were a few NES games in there, and 1 each Genny and SNES. I did not do a search for these, so I'm not sure what happened. I just wanted to let you know.

Thanks again!

Remember, if you added anything while "playing" with the system before Thursday night's official launch, the database was re-indexed, effectively swapping any games you had with their new counterparts in the updated database. Just remove the entries you don't want - should be clean from last night forward.

Awesome! Just took about an hour and got mine in -- I don't THINK I missed anything...gotta say, it's a hell of a lot faster and easier to get everything entered than it was on IGN. Plus I found only a handful of unlisted items. Can't wait to see what other features are coming for this. :)

SkiDragon
02-18-2005, 06:24 AM
What is needed is a "Go to page" feature in the online rarity guide. I put my entire collection in alphabetical order and then searched for all us games, and got to page 40 or something, and accidently closed the browser. Now I have to click "next" over and pver again.

This is great. Now that you've got me hooked on this smack I have a request. Would it be possible to add a check-box on the search page for "wanted" and "trade"? That way you could search the whole members' database to see if somebody wants my crappy games or if someone has GC Ikaruga for trade. :)

Outstanding work gentlemen. However, one small gripe (and maybe I'm missing something, as I normally do); is the only way to access my own collection to go into a post I made and check my profile?

I'd think it would be vastly easier to add a field to the normal personal profile page (with the username, avatar, etc fields) to access the collection from there, and make the collection a hot button on the persons communication bar (next to IM, Profile, Email, PM, etc).

My 0.02. This may even be in the works, but I'd really think the collection feature would work excellent this way.

The weirdest thing. I was in the GBA section (after selecting "US Game Releases). Everything was going well until I was on page 6 (of 7) and clicked on next. Instead of loading the 7th (and last) page, I was brought into the PSX list instead, on page 7 of 14...

The system also added some weird unrelated games to my want list (non-US releases of Tony Hawk 2, 3 and 4 on the Saturn???).

Methinks the system is still a bit bonky... LOL

When I added my 32x and atari 7800 collections I went to check oni t and it added a lot of different stuff. Stuff for the Tandy and other systems i've not even messed with. Just giving you guys a heads up on that.

Everything I added in the trade list (for the 32x and Atari 7800 respectively) seemed to work fine.

One thing I hadn't considered is "what if you guys are adding stuff when I am updating the datbase?" and I think that's why you're seeing the occasional odd entry into your lists. I can see that I'll need to schedule these things, do them at off-hours or ask Adam to build some kind of protection on your lists when the database is updating.

Message from Mars <transmitting>

The propeller heads are most concerned about the lists suddenly changing midstream. We would like any more instances sent to us directly, should I hear one or two more that Joe doesn't immediately take responsibility for concerning a db update, I will assume I have some synchronization issue on my hands and rexamine the engine for inappropriate state variables.

I was hoping that there would be counters on the lists so that it would say how many games were owned for each system with out me having to slowly scroll down my list saying "1,2,3,4......1,062.... oh damn I last count?!". Maybe in future versions there can be a box that tells total games for each system owned, or just a box that has all the systems and zeros or N/A-s all systems that do not apply. I'll continue adding my collection slowly over the next couple days, but I'll also stick with my spreadsheeted Databases to help me keep track of my numbers and percentages as well as titles.

Looking forward to updates.

Yeah, that's one reason I'm still maintaining my IGN list, pc games. Everything's pretty sweet although it seems a ton of genesis games appeared on my want list and I'm sure I checked "Owned". Weird. It also deleted a 32x want I had in there, must have been doing something while an update was happening?

Under FF, you can't sort the lists nor can you move past the first page of any search in the Online guide. Seems to work OK under IE, but a lot of us avoid that program like the plague :(

I was one of the few people who actually tried Firefox beta, didn't like it, and stuck with IE. Since Firefox was officially released as 1.0, I tried it again and love it now. Definitely an improvement in many ways. Haven't had any such problems so far.

This is very cool...again, many thanks to Joe and all behind the scenes. I've been working on the smaller collections first, but as the prospect of over 700 clicks for the NES stares me in the face, a question comes to mind...

Is there any way to automatically mark all items in a search as "owned", and then go back and unmark the few items you don't have? This would make the bigger lists much less daunting. Either way, this service is just another confirmation that no other site does as much for the gaming/collecting community as DP does!

Kudos!
