Got it when it first came out. Still got it and it's the only PS2 that I have ever owned. Same goes for my PS1 and Golfdinger. (I smell a burning import - oh wait, it's just my neighbor cooking lunch - hey, that's the same thing!)

I got one for Christmas 2001 and it's worked since then. I started getting DRE around summer of 2004, but i just took the compressed air and blasted it out. Works fine now. It is pretty loud though. I can hear the laser clicking as it moves up and down the track. Never a bad clicking noise, just sounds like it's moving and stopping suddenly.

One that I bought new about three years ago. Never gives me any problems. Of course I do take care of my toys.

When I worked at Gamestop we had a guy come in to get his 5th PS2 because all the otehr s had broke. We talked him into getting a X-Box.

I bought a PS2 in March 2001 and it is still running as strong as the day I bought it.

One, which I modded with a fliptop lid. Haven't had any issues with it!

I'm on my first one. I bought it a little more than a year after it came out, I think, the version with GT3 as a pack-in. I've had almost no problems with it despite using it as my primary DVD player and watching lots of DVDs. I have a couple of blue disc games that it seems picky about reading, but since my other blue disc games work it might just be those games.

One... and its the only one ive had. I got it at 12:01 AM on Nov 26 2000. Its starting to give me DREs, but after running a cleaning disc, it works just fine.

So far just one PS2. After going thru 2 PS1s, I have decided to play it as little as posible to try and prolong the life of it. Problem is, I cant help but wonder why I bought it if I'm to afraid to play it for fear of it going bad from over use.

I've never owned a PS2 (worked around them though) but i know that whenever i get a PS2 this will be the first thing i do to it.

Seems like its much easier to clean and it would (hopefully) allow me to play some imports.

I got one on launch date, I kept it IMMACULATE. Last Year, I started getting a disc read error on the blue discs. Going to EB, I took up the special to trade in my old broken system and ANY 5 games to trade in for a new slim PS2. It is like having night and day difference. I probably will never get a launch day system from Sony again. The launch of the PSP is just reinforcing that!

None for me too here. My housemate owned one for about a month then gave it to his Ex as she played it more than we did anyways so at least it went to a good home where it'll be used.

I still have my first PS2 and I never had any problems with it (and also no problems with my PS1). I use it a lot, also to watch DVDs and everything is working fine.

I got it mabe 3 years ago used from Ebay, so I can't exactly tell how old it is. First I was a bit sceptical about it becuase the guy who sold it to me ripped me off and some stuff was missing (loudspeakers for example) but luckliy the machine itself was ok.

It's strange that so many people have problems with their PS2, I just know one guy who had to get a new PS2 because the old one broke down. Maybe they improved the console a bit for the European launch.

I've owned five.

I refused to buy one till I could get one for £100. One day the video shop round the corner had one for £95 so I bought it. Had to take is straight back, as it would only play CDs / PS1 games. DVDs / PS2 games wouldn't work.

Not long after, bought another second hand one for £100 from E-Play. However this one was covered in dust, inside and out. Seemed to work OK on the whole, but was getting a bit finicky after a while - so in the end I went back and traded it back in to E-Play with a few games I had picked up on the cheap, for a brand new Satin Silver PS2. Looked after it well, and never had any problems with it at all.

Then recently one of the IT guys at work said he could get me two brand new slimline PSTwo's for £75 each, so I took them. Sold one to my brother, and decided that I quite like the PSTwo, so am going to sell my mint boxed Satin Silver PS2 and hopefully make most of the £75 back :D

Bought mine on launch day. Still have the same one years later. And I abuse the Hell out of this thing. Nor have I ever cleaned the laser lens. Still going strong. These constant "PS2 failure rate horror stories" baffle me, as I've never had an iota of trouble.

Interesting, I bought mine on Launch Day, it crapped out in 93 days. I kid you not. I bitched Sony out, they "fixed" it, It still wouldn't play certain DVDs, so I sold it to an independant video game store. (yes I informed them.) Got some cash bought a panasonic progressive DVD player and some random games probablly for various systems?

I have had a SONY Vaio laptop too, that crapped out on me, luckilly I had a circuit city warranty....

So my answer is 1. I am very leary of SONY. I don't associate the namebrand with quality anymore. They were superb back in the day, but now I feel that QC is lacking... I will get a slimline when the next price drop occurs most likely. It better not crap out in 93 days either. For now I will enjoy my SP, XBOX, and Cube, along with the countless retro systems I own. :P

i am on my 2nd right now but it's starting to mess up, the sound keeps cutting out on me and when i move the av cable in the back on the system it cuts back on. I am just glad i don't play it too much. Thankfully i have the X-Box and Gamecube to take up the slack.

I got a system at launch, used it for about three years, bought a region-modified system, so I sold my original.

I'll likely pick up a slim PSTwo and leave it sealed.

No problems with the systems at all, other than the occasional disc read error, but no worse than the average DVD player.

I'm still on my frist one of corse i haven't play it much over the years.I guess you could say i'm lucky then.I imagine if i, had put more time into it,it wouldn't take long for it to break down ;)
