I think mostly everyone thinks the tony series has been already done to death by now.

I have to agree with the above poster. I was a HARDCORE THPS player from THPS 1-3, and I was kind of into number 4. But I didn't even buy Thug 1 or 2. I think the series is dead, and they really can't add anymore else to make the gameplay any different. THPS 3 will always be my favorite current generation game!

Yeah, same here, THPS 1 was, in my opinion, the best skateboarding game ever made.

The new games? Meh...

There have been improvements to almost every sequel in the season, but the past few haven't really added anything that interesting. They should give it a year off and them blow folks away on the next-gen consoles.

Personally, I thought that the series really reached a pinnacle with THPS2. It seemed like after that, the game ended up being about a HUGE level with goals that just weren't as fun to get. It could be that I love arcade style games that are overly simple at their core, and THPS3 started getting more complex. That's not to say I haven't liked the more recent games, but I still play THPS2 on the DC and THPS2X on the Xbox every now and again.

I think there will be a THUG 3, but I hope that they really get it back down to the core gameplay. I've played through THPS1-4 and THUG, and while I liked them all I wasn't too impressed by driving a car or running around on foot.

I only like the first one, but my brother (who happens to be a big skateboarder) is mad for them... Even he knew they lost the plot with THUG 2 though and stayed away. I'd expect the series to lay low for a while and come back in a couple of years when people are desperate/not sick of TH. Late this gen or launch with the next gen of consoles.

Jeez! When I first started coming to DP, I made pretty much the same comment in some thread, like "does anybody still give a shit about the Tony Hawk games"? and about 10 people started flaming the hell out of me!

Well, maybe I was just ahead of my time... LOL

I personally am a HUGE extreme sports game fan. I like arcade feel of just getting in and hitting the ramps.

Then THUG introduced "story mode" and that was probably the first extreme sports game I didn't try to complete 100%, I almost gave up entirely out of disgust for the stupid story.

It kinds killed em for me, but I plan to check out THUG 2 on my PSP when I get it. :)

I was still into them, if you want to hear something painful I paid $50 each for the first 5 games in the series, brand new! THUG was still interesting, but I couldn't think of any way for them to top it.

And they couldn't either. I played THUG 2 and it was a mess. The levels are OK, but the career mode is garbage. You keep switching characters, and it's crammed full of terrible terrible jokes. Keep in mind, this is coming from a huge fan of MTV's Jackass.

It's the first game in the series I hesitated to spend $50 on. I might wait until it drops below 10 dollars.

I'd love to see them wait until the next generation, and make a THPS game with just one gigantic level. Make the level the size of Liberty City. Hell, make it the size of Vice City. And lose the crappy story, we don't play THPS games for the humor.

I really liked the Tony Hawk games until part 3 (which I played though on both GC and PS2). 4 seemed kind of bland (level desgin wasn't too good) and THUG had some extremely uneven difficulty (most of the game was pretty easy, but there were a few missions that were downright cheap).

I'm sure they'll make THUG3 unless for some reason THUG2 didn't sell many copies.

Until TH4 it was good. THUG Stinks.. Why do i still have that game?!

Unless they cut the cheesy story mode and release it in 2007, There is no reason for me to buy it.

I hope not. Every game get's further away from skating...

I like the story mode...the story itself is idiotic and sophomoric, but other then that, it's fun.

the THPS series has been going downhill at an amazing rate since they started with this THUG series. i still play THPS 2 on my GBA SP. that was back when they had some self respect and didnt sell out continuously. and more importantly, it had Spiderman as a hidden character.

The first two were the best because, well, they had the best music.

There's that pressure to find a new gimmick for the yearly updates, and Tony Hawk was one of those games you could play forever. The last one I played was #3, and it really disappointed me. I never liked how the whole game just turned into one never-ending grind trick. And playing online was wierd - kids would always just run laps around the perimeter. I ended up creating giants just so I could smack them around, just for kicks.

Got kicked oiut of a few games, too, so I must've been doing something right.

I, too, think that THUG sucks. I never tried at all to beat it after I saw what it is like. Yuck...:/

I am a big fan of THPS 1 & 2, though, and have yet to try #3 and #4. Which I should do pretty soon :)

played 1 and 2 to hell, skipped 3 and 4, thug revived my interest and thug 2 lost it for me.
