I don't think so. As long as the AC adapter goes to the FC. I think you can use a NES RF switch.

It is the NES RF switch. The Famicom RF has a slightly different connector, but none the less if you buy it from someone selling a set (Deck, controllers, ac and av) then you will be getting the right one. It will connect to any TV with a RF IN connector. They are pretty standard.
Are you going to buy a famicom? If so PM me...I have one I am looking to get rid of.

The first original version of famicom only works with rf adapter (no AV) but the japanese rf signal is diferent to american rf signal and you will need an old TV to sintonize manually the channel. There are some 1st famicoms home-made modified with av connection
The second version of famicom have av connection and pretty easy to found in new condition in ebay. Your controllers are dog bone style, similar to snes controllers

If you don't have a Famicom already, I would suggest the Time Machine since it's a handheld that can also play on the television.

If anyone reads this, what should one expect to pay for a 1st generation famicom (with all the hook-ups)?
