I just stumbled across this and thought someone might find it of interest. It's short, so I'll post the whole article here. But if you would like to read it on the actual websit that posted it, here is the link

Will Wright Reveals 'Spore'

At his Vision Track lecture on the final day of Game Developers Conference, Maxis founder and Sim City/The Sims creator Will Wright revealed a brand-new, previously unannounced title named Spore, one that has immediately become the talk of the show.

Spore is a sprawling multi-genre title which follows life from its smallest single-cell origins all the way to planet-spanning conquerors, and the gameplay spans all the way from Cubivore-style animal consumption, through real-time strategy in the controlling of tribes, all the way up to a Civilization-reminiscent planetary (and eventually interplanetary) expansion phase.

A release date, platform, and publisher is currently unspecified for the game, but Wright indicated that he will deliver more details at E3, and Gamasutra will have an in-depth analysis of his presentation in the near future.

I'm picturing SimEarth here. I remember playing it on SNES and watching my people develop industry, and evolve. Seems like a similar idea, except with the advances in gaming, I'm sur eit would be more in-depth as far as gameplay goes. Congrats to Will Wright for not just becoming an editor for the newest The Sims game.

Sounds awesome! I've always loved the whole "life sim" concept, and this game sounds like it deffinately puts it to good use. ...I love Will Wright games, as long as they have nothing to do with "The Sims" (mmmmmmm, Sim Tower)

Can't wait to see / hear more!

Um, SimTower was by Yoot Satio, as was its sequel, Yoot Tower, and had nothing to do with Will Wright, if I am not mistaken. I for one found watching elevators move up and down get a little dull after a while. (Then again, I imagine the fast-forward mode must really work on modern computers.)

Much more in depth view of the demo. Very interesting read and very interesting development for the industry. If the same type of code could be used to animate anything a creator wants, the armies of animators could be cut down to a couple guys just importing the models created by the art team and making them do all kinds of things and simply recording the animation rather than creating it themselves.
