That was the harshest comment in this topic, and it was mild at worst. It's hardly any different from all the times you see replies to game room topics with "Where's so-and-so-system?"

While there are some serious Neo Geo snobs on the 'net, I don't think it really carries over to these parts much at all.

he has no neo geo collection
no neo = lame :monkey:

no neo = more money for more games, hence a huge collection like that

My boyfriend pointed out the lack of Neo Geo as well. For some gamers, it's a deal breaker. :P

That could be said about any game or system!

no (game X or system X) = deal breaker

It by no means makes the guy's collection bad, but I think it's silly to have such a broad collection yet lack anything SNK.

I'm sure that he has plenty of SNK games for some of his systems. They did port alot of SNK games over to other systems, maybe that's enough for him.

What the heck is the big deal about SNK/Neo Geo?

I have every SNK game ever made for the Genesis; every one that was ever made for the Sega CD; all the ones that were made for the SNES, but not for the Genesis; all the ones that were made for the Saturn, but not for the Genesis, Sega CD, or SNES; all the ones that were made for the PS, but not for the Genesis, Sega CD, SNES, or Saturn; Capcom VS SNK for the DC, and God knows how many other SNK games are in my collection, but I still don't own any actual SNK systems yet, not even a NGPC. But does that make me and my entire collection lame, just because of the supposed complete lack of anything made by SNK in my game room? I don't hardly think that it does.

heh, way to quote yourself Iron Draggon LOL :)

Personally, I couldnt care less about the no-neo thing. Heck most of the good NG games are on other consoles anyway x_x

That's exactly how I feel.

By the way, this thing is now all over the internet. I was checking out another forum that has nothing to do with gaming, and it is on there. Pretty much everyone was saying @_@ or HOLY SH*T!!!
I don't know why no one elses collection from here has got this kind of exposure before.

God, please no, the last thing we need is 2000 13 year old kids asking "How much is Mario/Duck Hunt going for?" or "Where is the best place to get games real cheap, I'm looking to buy a whole bunch to resell on EBAY?"

Or more virtualboy type of members.

Or more people to sit there and talk shit about how they think WE have no lives.

im also not digging the way random carts have permanent market or ripped price tags still on them. you think with as large a collection as that he would atleast want his games to be in tip top shape.

oh and as a response. im not lame for knocking this guys collection. of course im the only one here who has said they werent incredibly impressed, but at other sites ive seen, 90% of the members said they thought his collection sucked, and i had the manners enough to word it nicely.

honestly its not the actual games that dont impress me (he does have far too many loose titles though)
its the fact that with all those games and systems hes got it all jumbled up hooked into one tiny ass TV. doesnt particularly make any sense.
i would also hate to see the current condition of those saturn game's booklets seeing as how they are lying on there backs.... i bet they are curved and bent as hell
this man needs a neo!

Yer jealous.

Dont make me punk you for lunch money.

To each is his/her own. Everyone collects in a different fashion and has different interestes. I won't say anyone's collection sucks, for the fact that thier are many that would say "my" collection sucks. Similiar to the days in pre school where my dad is better than your dad argument. Who has time for such petty nonsence.

I'm pretty sure the likes of those people would be ignored or banned pretty quick around these parts.

Besides, they can go to GameFaqs and do that with just about everyone else on that board.

I showed my g/f the room and she thought the whole "Mario wall" was a bit much.

I agree that the TV probably could be a tad bigger and I think the system cords could be a bit more orderly.

Hello DP

I've been a fan of this site for many years but never have visited the forums as I simply don't have much time for posting in forums/messageboards. The only boards I really ever posted much on was MagicBox forums and maybe a few times over at LostLevels.

First off, props out to a few friends I've seen who posted here. Redeye, Portnoyd, and also to NES.GOD who alerted me that my room was getting some stir in DP.

2nd thing, could a moderator or the original poster please delete my full name and address that "esquire" posted on the first page? I don't think that information needs to be displayed on forums. I don't need every clown within 50mile radius showing up on my doorstep asking me to buy their Super Mario RPG because they saw it on my "wantlist". Even worse, some pycho coming to try and rob my place endangering my wife or 3yr old son. Thanks

Now, to maybe answer some questions in the thread itself..

Hehe ye, it would also be cool if you could open the lid and store stuff in it :)

The lid does open up and its got alot of storage room inside :D

he has no neo geo collection
no neo = lame :monkey:

My focus and passion is NES/Famicoms. While I collect and play everything else, I'm really in no hurry to obtain "every" single system made. I would love to snag a NeoGeo and TurboDuo someday but if I don't then I really don't care. I have enough to keep me busy till my dying days as it is.

The only thing that I dont like is the fact that to play a game, he would have to pull it out from under a bunch of others and then lift up those others to put it back. Way too hard to keep tidy, unless you never play them.
-james

I'm lost on what your saying here. None of my console have to be "pulled" anywhere. There is enough clearance on all of them to insert the carts/cds with no problem. All my systems are hooked up through a switchbox and with a simple push of a button I am playing any system in that unit.

im also not digging the way random carts have permanent market or ripped price tags still on them. you think with as large a collection as that he would atleast want his games to be in tip top shape. :hmm:

honestly its not the actual games that dont impress me (he does have far too many loose titles though)

Most of my carts that have marker/stickers/damaged labels on them are either from other countries (which is nearly impossible to be picky about condition) or games I picked up somewhere and if/when I find a better condition title then it will be swapped. I'm not going to turn down a SNES Earthbound or any other game I need in my collection simply because it has a "Blockbuster sticker" or "John Doe written on it"

I've never been a perfectionist or complete freak when it comes to games. I simply want games "that" play and "to" play and the completion or condition of carts isn't my primary concern. I also cannot stand "Sealed" games. They bug me because they beckon to be played, not to be kept sealed forever. For this reason I don't collect "sealed" video games.

People saying my collection sucks on any forums doesn't bother me. Ones that say my collection needs this or that or sucks w/o something doesn't piss me off either. Opinions are varied and I really don't pay them much attention because, well, this is MY collection and my website was made in spare time with little effort and its not intended to be pushed upon or used to brag about what I have. It was mearly a personal salute to NES and wanting to share my enthusiasm with other gamers and also use it as a database for myself, a checklist, if you will.

I posted in one other forum the other day and do not intend to post there, or anywhere prolly again as I don't feel I need to justify or defend myself and my collecting hobby to people who simply just bash and try to act like they know me or know what kind of life I lead. Here is the complete post from there. I'm to lazy atm to type all this stuff in so I'm copying/pasting. This post will answer some of the other comments that were in this thread as well.

Hello Codebreakers,
I recently received an email from Wired Crazy complimenting my site and asking that I come answer some people in this forum. I don’t usually post in forums because I simply don’t have the time and when I do BS about video games it’s usually in the MagicBox forums. I won’t be frequenting these boards so I’ll try to answer what questions and comments I see in this thread now. I can’t believe my gameroom has stirred up this much talk in a random thread. It’s quite amusing.

Hola ****. This dude's gotta be freakin rich to supply all that. That, or deeply in debt trouble.

I only wish I were rich. I spend about $100 a month on games. I collect games, my wife collects movies. I think everyone collects something. It’s just my collection is 20+ yrs worth which is why it’s so large. I also 90% of the time buy pre-owned games which allows me to buy more for my money. The upcoming Zelda will be the first pre-order game I’ll buy in nearly 2 years.

Quote:
HOLY MOTHER F****** S***!!!!! That's alot of games, the sad thing is, he prolly don't even have a codebreaker.

Nope, don’t have a codebreaker. Prolly why I never saw these forums. I have AR Max’s for my current generation systems.

They might own a pawn shop. They might also have spent many years gaining this collection (or it might be the sum total of a bunch of collections from different people). Maybe the photos are deceptive; perhaps they work at a company that stocks or betas these things. Not all those cases were full, I don't really know. In any case, that seems to be begging for a thief. He needs a TV worthy of that collection if it is real XDDD.

Nope, we don’t own a pawn shop although I’ve bought many of games from pawn shops over the years. All my games were “bought” by me (minus the 50-100) my parents bought for me when I was a kid in the 80’s.

Quote:
eh, he must've stolen every single one of them.

Sorry, don’t steal. I have gotten many, many games for free or actually got paid to add to my collection and this is how. EB, Gamestop, Movie Gallery, Blockbuster, etc. Stores like this will run Buy1Get1 or Buy2Get2 sales a lot, at least in my areas they do. An example of how I get a lot of games (newer ones only). In January, I went into a local Movie Gallery which was having a B2G2 sale. They had several copies of used Paper Mario & Pikmin 2’s at the time. I bought 2 of each at $40ea. Which then gave me 2 of each free. So, I spent a total of $160 for 8 games (4 pm/4 pikmin2) then listed 6 of the games on eBay for BIN @ $40 and sold them within 10days for a total of $240. Outcome = I got paid $80 + 2 great games. For nothing more than a little time. This is just an example of something I’ve done many, many times. I also bought out the inventory of a closing Superstar video’s PS1/Dreamcast library which yielded me 500+ titles for $1.00ea. Then sold all the doubles and made most of my money back on that purchase. Deals are out there and unless you buy brand new all the time then you can amass a large library quick. Of course, all my older games are earned the hard way, buying at fleas, yard sales, pawn shops, game stores, etc.

how old is this guy, cause them nintendo games are way to childish you know he is never gonna have a girlfriend.
yeah wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overboard that's just like saying im never gonna have a girlfriend other that princess mario in my dreams
i guess he needs to sell em (not all but some)then and make himself a babe magnet pad cause i know games are great and everything but you also need sex

I’m 31 and yes, your right, I’ll never have a girlfriend. I’ve been happily married for 11yrs so there’s no need to. My wife plays video games also and was actually glad to see all my stuff condensed into one room.

Quote:
he has all these games and such a small tv whats up with that

My TV is a 32” and plenty big for the distance you’re sitting in front of it from the NES bench. I didn’t see the need in blowing another $400 for a 36” and Plasmas and Bigscreens are to prone to burnt images when playing older games on them. I have a projector that I use downstairs when friends/family come over for a “rip-up” gaming night.

Quote:
He can't really enjoy playing all those games or get around to all of them. We all may say that playing games all day is what we like to do but we all have a life outside that, this guy clearly doesn't. He might lose his job, have to sale his games, and become a crazed homeless man.

Thanks for trying to act like you know me and saying I have no life, “clearly” you don’t know wtf you are talking about. I play video games on average of 10-15hrs a week. Just because I “own” 5,000+ games doesn’t mean I play games all the time. Many of my games I’ve never even gotten to play yet. Jay Leno owns 107 cars, Does that mean he must spend all his time driving them?

Once every 3-4 months my brother, 2 brother in-laws, and few friends come over and we just ripup on multiplayer games from Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon. We have done this for years. When we are crashed the wife’s/girlfriends jump in and play games too or use the projector to watch movies.

When I was younger (10-15yrs) I played the hell outta video games but gaming comes to a trickle once your out on your own, married, have kids, and a social life. Something you don’t have when your freaking 12. I just never grew out of “collecting” games and still enjoy playing them when time to play them is available.

Quote:
I'd have to say painting his room in that Mario theme is going overboard.

The themed room was my wife’s idea and perhaps it is a bit overboard but it’s very unique and my son loves it. I have no regrets on how I finished that room.

Quote:
Truely impressive, I assum he works at a game store though.

Nope, I am a contractor with my own business in residential and do work for a large corporation on a lot of their commercial work as well. Wife works at a college.

Quote:
There's no way thats a room, looks more like a game store.

Give me your email and I will print this whole webpage and take a picture of that page in front of anything in those photos you want, thx.

Here’s a little info on the room itself…
The display cases (PS2/XBOX) lighted ones I got from a Sears store we remodeled in North Carolina. The Consoles shelving unit I built from a broken display case of the same kind. I cut the side piece in half, put 12" white shelves in it and a 24" x 5' top on it which holds my 32" TV nicely. After long debate on buying either a big screen or tube TV. I finally decided on the tube because of the way the room layout ended up. All the other shelving is just 2x6's painted then put together in place.

The SMB mural and NES Bench were the bulk of the work. I have over 20 hours in painting then clear coating the bench and smb background (steps, warp tunnel, flag & nintendo lettering mostly). Prolly 6 hours in building it all. The back side and sides are shelving. I put much thought into the layout of the room before even starting. Originally it was going to just be basic. I was going to just have shelving around the perimeter of the whole room, a projector, and a futon or huge couch because I just wanted a place to play and store my $hit.

Then my wife said "Are you going to paint it NES theme colors?" This triggered ideas and the eventual layout it now has. With the Horseshoe shelving setup it allowed me to build a play bench (which seats 4+ drinks and bags of chips /lol) in nice distance from all the consoles I was going to be hooking up meaning "no controller extention cables" /Yay!

After I saw what the dimensions on the bench was going to be and all the wall space I would have behind it on the back of the shelving unit. I had a brain fart and the NES bench and SMB backdrop was born. I printed a screenshot off smb, broke out the scale rule and began drawing away, did the same thing with a NES console, scanned & printed Mario & Baddies from old NES manuals and sticker cards. Colored, laminated, and used spray adhesive to affix them once the painting was finished and several days later it was finally done.

The bench also serves as a nice storage. The lid lifts up (only in the area that looks like the NES lid) and reveals 7'6" x 2' x 30" storage space which helps a great deal.

Overall the room turned out well I think. Thanks for those of you who handed out compliments instead of insults.
Gibby

Sorry for the very long post but like I said, I won't be able to be posting very often and basically the only reason I posted here is because I respect Digital Press, some friends of mine were in this post, and Joe also emailed me and thought my room would be a nice addition to the DP gamerooms pages which I may submit too sometime.

This forum is by far the most "grown up" and more so positive than negative towards me, my family, and my hobby. For that I want to thank you all for the compliments and respect towards my hobby.

I think I've said it before- but I'll say it again-
I LOVE your collection Nescapades!

By the way I'm very biased towards Nintendo

Great to see you on the DP boards- it's really nice to see another collector after my own heart.

Keep on collecting - looking mighty fine! :D :D

Wow.

In this case the loose carts actually add to the look of the room, rather than detract from it. It gives it a nice neat appearance. Very nice indeed.

OMG!!! that mario is not of the same era as the scene!!! this sucks!!
O_O x_x :hmm:

anyway, nice collection! id love to know the rooms dimensions, as my game room is so much more cluttered(even using all of the walls) and i dont have near that many games!
that collections great, and is similar in make up to mine. i have the same MO as far as collecting goes, get the titles and get better copies if they come available later...im not going to pass on a $2 aero fighters because the back labels torn off.
