I dont know if anyone else has noticed, but the GBA Games, when played on a DS look fantastic... Its the equivalent of GBA being an RF and DS being RGB!

The games seem to be crystal clear and much brighter. Has anyone else noticed this/love this?

Ive been playing through Castlevania: Circle Of The Moon again, and on the DS its so much easier to see. CotM used to be so hard to play on the original GBA, then on the SP it was a load better, but on the DS its just hot stuff!

I <3 DS

Thats so true. I got Kingdom Hearts CoM for a Christmas present and didnt even touch my GBA. You are right, it makes the images look amazing. I dunno what they did, but the color is better, it seems like everything is more crisp. The volume even goes higher than previous Nintendo handhelds... who wouldnt want a DS for GBA games?

I'll have to try this out in a few months when I get my DS.

I just can't let my girlfriend see me doing it cause she went crazy finding me a retro GBA SP for my birthday and I promised her that I wouldn't let the DS replace it for GBA games :)

Some people do find playing GBA on the DS a bit harder due to the position of the shoulder buttons in comparison (especially when you are used to the SP).

I'm fine with it... and first playing Minish Cap on the DS in comparison to the SP was something completely new. Don't think I'll be going back to the SP unless it's for connecting to the Cube (Zelda 4 Swords etc).

I thought it was my eyes playing tricks on me but the first time I popped a GBA game in the DS I noticed a difference. Everything seemed to look clearer, brighter and just all around better. You'd think Nintendo would advertise this....

Tell me about it... When I got my DS I didnt even get any DS games, since I still had a few GBA games to beat. I popped in FF:DoS and @_@ @_@ @_@ DAMN... it was one of the clearest pictures I had ever seen on ANY handheld system, but now that the PSP is out, I dunno how accurate that description is now. I also like the volume on it, it is so much louder than the GBA, GBC, GB. It seemed like the only way you could get a decent amount of sound from those is from using headphones.

Just a quick DS question, does it have enough background light so you can play in the dark?

I HATE the SP, it hurt my hands. I always played on the original GBA. However I can now see the screen with my NDS, it rocks.

Hell yes. The DS and the SP double up nicely as a flashlight. :P

I find the DS harder to play in direct sunlight, because whereas with the SP you still have that classic Game Boy screen that uses natural light in order to save battery power (if you so choose), the DS is pretty much meant to be played with the backlighting indoors.

The screen is amazing. Although it feels a little small in comparising to the original GBA screen to me.

Yo

The shoulder buttons are great just like the original GBA.
The regular headphone jack. The volume and stereo.

The only thing that messed with my fingers was the extra buttons. Especially when playing a GBA game for the first time on the DS. I still can't remember which buttons do what on Tron..

I really noticed this when I put in Harmony of Dissonance...it looks even more phenomenal than normal.

Also, I had heard that you can switch/choose which screen the GBA game plays on, but I've never been able to figure out how to do it. Was I misinformed, or is there really a way to do this?

DS Turn ON
Select the Tiny DS Button below Start GBA Game
Select the Spanner
Select The GBA
Select the Screen You Want

They're not advertising it because 1) that would contradict Nintendo's "three tiers" claim (GameCube/GBA/DS), 2) it was a last-minute addition to an already rushed-to-market system, 3) most Nintendo fans have been trained into expecting backward compatibility, so there's no reason to bring it up, and 4) it's a secondary feature. You don't hype the DS's ability to play GBA games, you hype its dual screens and touch screen.

I think you misspoke here. You forgot to include the word 'handheld' before the word fans :D

I cant wait to get the mp3/video player for it. I agree on the gba difference though its so much brighter and clearer.

Does anyone here have the video player for it? I would like to know how good it works.

I would think of it more like this

GBA = RF
GBA SP = S-video
DS= RGB/Component

I've actually USED my SP as a flashlight...more than once. It's more effective than you'd expect.

They're crazy gorgeous. Playing Tactics Ogre on it is like FFTactics on a TV at home.

I've yet to get an actual DS game. I got it to play GBA games, since it cost just barely more than an SP anyway. And I have to say, I'm darned happy with it.

I've used my SP as a nightlight, for my son when we were on vacation :)

I know it's been stated before, but hopefull the new GBA SP that's been slated to be released around the holidays will have an updated screen to bring it up to quality with the DS. that I would buy, especially if it debuted at $79. :D
