I know for a fact the CD-i was also sold in most BEST department stores. I remember playing the kiosk back in the day!

yeah i actually tried to get a sears credit card when i was only 16 to buy one at sears, and actually almost got away with it! :D

Are you going to pay 65 US to see if thats it? Thats a lot of money. Why dont you tell that guy to send you some pics of the tape? I mean....65 US is a lot of money for a VHS, and even more so if it isnt the one youre looking for!

He "can't" watch the tape? Why not? Has he suddenly gone blind? To say that he is going to watch the tapes and tell you if it is what you want, and to then say he can't watch the tapes makes me somewhat suspicious.
I just hope you aren't getting ripped off by someone who has watched the tapes, realised that they aren't what you're after, but is desperate enough to lie in order to sell at least one of his infomercial tapes ...

I find it odd too that a guy who works in a business of selling infomercial tapes doesn't have time to at least throw it on for about 20 seconds to see if it's what you're after.. :hmm:

even if he sent me a pic all it is is a blank tape with a sticker on the top that says "philips cdi informercial 1993" so i really wouldnt be able to tell anything from a picture!

Well, I would tell him that I have $300 for someone who is willing to bend their policy slightly to confirm that I am getting what I want! If he doesn't bite at that, then you know for sure he's trying to scam you. No honest businesman would turn down an extra $250 to check a tape, policy or no policy - the only reason you would stick to your 'policy' in that case would be if you knew already that it wasn't the right one.

It's not about the $65 per se, it's about smelling a fish ..
i spoke to the manager today and he believes they have the infomercial! they have 2 different tapes and he is watching them both as we speak but he is going to call me when he is done and let me know if it is it!
This is the part that concerns me. First of all he is watching two tapes and will call you when he's done .. then, suddenly, it's "against their policy" to watch the tapes, but they'll sell them to you if you want? O_O
What kind of manager forgets that they have a policy of not watching tapes before they sell them? And if that is indeed their policy, how do they even know if any of their tapes work?
I really don't want to rain on the parade, and yes, I am probably being a cynical bastard ... but this just makes me suspicious.

Yeah I don't think it sounds too hot either but if you've been following the thread or happened to read the title of this thread...youd know how important this is to WoG. Don't be so suprised hes willing to shell out some $$ for the tape...you read the title of the thread, right? Maybe his signature? That isnt exactly the signature of a man whos trying to cheap out on something! LOL

yeah but i am going to buy one at a time, because if the first one i ordered is it, then there is no need to buy the other two, who knows they might all be basically the same thing!

i did get a pic, all it is is a blank tape, with a white label with generic letter that says "philips cd-i march 1993"

that would be a good idea, but if this is in fact the tape, the reward money is going to go to deputy moniker, as he was the person who found out where to get the tape from. i promised the money to the finder and i want to stick to that!

i know what you are saying but again what can i do about it? i can either order the tape and risk it, or do nothing and never know if it was it! i dont know, maybe i misunderstood and when he said "watching" maybe he was just looking for the tapes, this place is obviously huge if they have every infomercial going back some 30 years! again i dont know but i have to try, its the only way ill ever find out! :D

deputy is right, its kinda like a pokemon thing where you gotta catch em all, except its an infomercial not a pikachu, and theres only one tape as opposed to one billion pokemon! still its pretty much the same! LOL
Say to him that if it is the good commercial, you will pay 100$ extra. But he must watch it first for ya!

well the tape has shipped and it should be here by early next week! i might add that if it isnt it, i may just go off and destroy everything in sight! :/

well its finally over and i am so freakin excited i dont know what to do. the tape came early than expected and as soon as i popped it in, the gentlemen walks up to a room i described and says those magic words "i want to know the meaning of life!!" i only watched the first 5 minutes because i want to take it home and savor it! i want to thank everyone who helped in this quest and escpecially deputy moniker, the man who found the tape for me!! deputy i am pming you to discuss your reward as promised! also i am going to be transferring this to dvd tonight and selling copies of it so anyone that is interested in purchasing one, please PM with offers. mods, you can lock this if you want, or you can leave it since i am technically selling something here! again i cant thank everyone enough and this 10 year journey has finally come to an end! :( (thats a happy crying not a sad one!)
