View Full Version : Favorite System Intro Sequence

Just got a Sega Saturn, and this is the first time I've ever played the system. It has a much "cooler" feel to it then I had expected, and I think part of it is that I really like the system's opening sequence with all the polys building the logo.

Got me wondering what everyone's favorite "system intro" is.

Voted "Other". The Colecovision's bios loading screen gives me time to read a book. ;)

Saturn's... Just because.

Don't remember DC's and PlayStation's was just anoying. GameCube's is decent, and Xbox's rips and roars like tightly squeezed butt-cheeks. But the intro for Neo•Geo is all I think of when I think of the system... every time the word pops in my thoughts, that simple toon plays in my head. And when I'm thinking of bomberman, I hear the happy-clappy version.

I say Neo-Geo. I never had the system but play the arcades all the time. I love that tune. :)

I voted for "other". The Sega CD and Master System had awesome ones.

Voted 'other', my vote goes to the Japanese Master System BIOS. Simply because of the awesome Space Harrier track against the starfield & scrolling scenery. Awesome.
EDIT - and the PS2 startup screen - ugh. It's so annoying!

Of all the ones I remember I would have to say the Dreamcast is the best. All my Genesis does is say "Licensed for play..." and the N64 is boring really. The Playstation One got on my nerves. The NES/SNES didn't have anything for startup.

Totally forgot about Neo Geo, I love that one too!

Never seen the Sega CD one, anyone care to describe it?

Saturn. Unfortunately the effects in the start up sequence are better than those in most of the system's games.

I think the PS1 intro is great. They should have kept it instead of changing to the stupid boxes.
The one I really hate is the DC...it looks like something you'd see immedietly after the final credits of a Muppet Babies episode.

Don't care - no matter which system it is I just keep pushing the button to get to the game quicker.

I agree, nothing beats the Neo Geo intro now that you mention it

Sega CD one varies. Yet the menu screen is kind of cool (Model 1 has a different one).

But when it shows sonic and the half-ass "SEGA" chime, it's kind of weak compared to Sonic 2's intro

NeoZeedeater
04-23-2005, 02:36 PM
I haven't had a model 1 Sega CD in ages but all I remember was an FMV of the Sega logo morphing. Model 2's is cooler; it has the Sega and Sega CD logos floating around with a planet in the background. The Japanese model 2 has a large picture of Sonic in the background. I only used my Mega CD 2 once since I still don't have any games for it but I really liked the background.

I like:

Master System (for nostalgic reasons)
Neo*Geo (probably my favorite)
Sega CD Ver. 2 (not very flashy, but I like the little tune that plays during load-up)

Would the Master System be considered the first system to have a boot-up screen? Or a BIOS, for that matter?

i voted "Don't care" just because most of them are awesome and I couldn't pick just one or two

the most boring start ups however are the gameboy startups....

Nope, the Vectrex had a built-in boot up screen with its own little tune too. There were systems with built-in stuff before the Vectrex but I can't recall an actual intro sequence in any of them.

My vote goes for the Jaguar (or rather "Other", since Jaguar ain't in the list). I love the retro sounding tune it plays when the letters fall into the screen. The JagCD alters the into animation to include random scenes from the VLM too, which is also tres cool.

My ignorance of some systems shows in the options I left out. I always assumed that the intro sequence was a part of the disc based systems only. I haven't seen a Jag or Master System and didn't realize they had intro screens as well.

Oh well, just another reason to check these systems out I guess.

I really liked the Neo Geo CDZ's logo when I had one (I'm guessing it's the same as the original NGCD) the Neo Geo logo, SWOOPING in STEREO SOUND!

Runners-up include the SMS (when I turned it on for the first time, the Sega geek in me was delighted), the Saturn, and the Gamecube.

If you want to know about the Sega CD 2 Boot screen, then It's got the Sega CD logo and the Sega logo in space along with cool music playing in the background. That's right, Sega In Space!

Anyway, I vote for PSone's boot screen, because I like the SCEA logo with "Woooooo....Dododododido!"

Others I like:

Gamecube (When holding in Z buttion in controler 1): Sweeky toys and kids giggleing! I like!

Master System: Much better then Genesis, even more with "Zoooo...Dodo!"

Game Boy: It dull with the Nintendo logo, but I like the sound it makes! "Dirding!"

GameCube for me. It's fun to watch and the little tune is light and bouncy with a big bass punch at the end.

I really should start giving my neglected little Cube some lovin'.....I feel guilty. Big ol' Xbox is hogging all of the attention.

My favorite system boot-up would have to be the Sega CD. Sonic appears and snaps his fingers and stars fly everywhere as the Sega logo appears with the "Saayyyy-gaaaahhh" riff. Then the Sega CD logo appears with the best intro music I've ever heard. The CD logo begins to rotate and fly about the screen as the music plays. Just....wow. Those who have seen it and heard the song knows what I'm talking about.

Here's a link to the Sega CD boot-up music at the Videogame Music Archive:
Click to hear... (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/sega/segacd/SEGAfinal.MID)

I was actually planning on using this as the next Mystery Sound contest, but decided it'd be too obscure.

pop any recent xbox game into a pc, and if you'll see two video files. one is the japanese xbox intro clip- it's loud and ends with a bang- that's my new favorite console intro.

I voted 'other', since my favorite is the cool color-changing logo thing when booting up an Atari 7800 in 7800 mode. Another cool boot-up screen, though it isn't a video game (or even a real boot-up screen, since it's only at the beginning of certain discs), is the Early RCA Selectavision CED startup screen (http://www.cedmagic.com/home/rca1-160.mov).

Another Sega CD vote.

The Model 1 Sega CD also features the Sega logo being streched, compressed, spun, and all around distorted as it flies over the starfield.

For those of you who haven't seen the Mega CD start up which features a very different and very cool background, it can be found as a room in Panic! for the Sega CD.

Also, the Sega CD tune r0x0rz my s0x0rz.

Saturn. Unfortunately the effects in the start up sequence are better than those in most of the system's games.

Only if you are playing the wrong games......
I wouldn't say most by far, unless you are talking about domestic releases in which case, of course you would be right.

I like the JP Saturn intros.

Neo-geo. The PC-FX into may not be a big deal but the intros that come after it when the game starts up are byond everything. Don't question it.

Saturn is so undderated it's not funny. So much better than PS it's F'ing ridiculous.

Money (i.e. some of the imports) gets in the way for many people, but I would say just stop buying all the recent crap.

Some of the better games aren't all that expensive (relatively) IMO. And the domestic lineup had some stuff that the PS could never touch. Ever.

A PCE DUO is worth $250, and a PS2 is worth $2.50 game wise IMO.

There aren't enough right ones to buy the PS2 IMO.
That's all. People say this or that are good enough games to buy it, but I can't see it. I used to own one. I felt it was a huge waste of money. So basically, I don't feel that the "right games" exist. I've played a significant number of games on PS2 mind you.

Don't want to derail this discussion. I was just trying to make a point about collecting for older systems vs. newer ones.

I LOVE the sega noise when you start a game up on the japanese mega CD. It's just so...awesome. The US version with sonic is pretty cool too. The euro Mega CD intro is slightly cooler than the US one as well, the colors are better.

I voted Gamecube, but the Saturn and Sega CD (model 2) ones are also quite nice -- I've got both Sega CD BIOS tunes sitting in my music folders. ;)

And people say the Cube one changes if you hold Z? I must try that tonight!

I need a JP Megacd. Thanks for the reminder!

Trying to find one at a reasonable price. Do you know by any chance what the difference between the intro is between various JP ones? 1,2, the Wondermegas, that lil' boombox looking thing, Laseractive etc.

Does the Teradrive run CD games? (Who has one of those things anyway? Other than almost noone.)

Just curious. Probably gonna buy one of the Wondermega personally.

The Jag opening is great (hits self for not rememberizering).

I'll probably end up buying games and using an emu to play them until I can manage to raise the stupidly large (on my current budget anyway...) amount I need for a Wondermega.

On the other hand, I may try using a cheap (legit) JP game and see if patch and backup works with my NA SegaCD.....

I am probably gonna end up buying NeoGeo CD games without the system also...... Pulstar on CD isn't cheap, but I don't play games I don't own (I vehemently refuse to these days, because I am kind of a pseudo collector. Actually I consider myself a collector but I'm not obssessed with condition, nor do I actually buy weak games just to be "complete").

It is much cheaper than the cart...... (Understatement!!!)
The price difference with Metal Slug 1 is beyond ridiculous also, not to mention a number of shooters not worth the home cart price. (I don't feel like going the MVS route. Just seems kind of odd to me somehow. I'm strange.)

The NES because there WASN'T any crappy intro sequence.

Good point. The VCS opening sequence is fantastic as well (among others).

My fave opening sequence is simply the SMS with its simple Say-gaaa! sound.

However, I gotta admit I like the GameCube's intro. Makes me think of Jeopardy! :D

My least liked intro sequence: the DS. That warning screen is annoying, I wish there was an option to turn off that warning upon booting the DS. Bring me straight to the main menu, dammit! :P

I just don't see what the big deal is with this topic (not that it is a bad one). I like the games, not the system intro screen. Yes, some of the intro screens are kind of cool, but I'm the kind who keeps hitting the buttons to get to the game (and I hate those games that force you to watch the damn intro screens).

But, if I had to pick just one, it would be.... SELECT GAME :D

I'm a big fan of the Gamecube logo. Not just because of the graphics, but also the sound effects that accompany it. It fits the system perfectly and I associate it with the games I've come to love on the GC. As I only buy/play games I know I'm going to like on the Cube I only have that association. Whereas with the PS2 I have plenty of crap games that have been accompanied by that intro sequence. Simpsons Road Rage...ugh.
