I heard on CAG that starting April 28th, all games older than current gen (PS2, XBOX, GCN, GBA, DS, PSP) are 3 for $15. Apparently there is no limit on how much you buy or any limitations whatsoever.

So if your GCs have any rare SNES, PSX, DC games pick them up!

Here is the original thread from CAG:

Naaa, although the same evil company writes the pay checks for both sides, they are seperate and have nothing to do with one another on the consumer end.

I can't wait. I'm hitting up my GC first thing Friday morning. Paper Mario for like $15 with two free games. Hahaha. Their SNES/NES section is pretty picked through (I check there alot and have bought a lot), but hopefully DK and DK3 are still there. i'm giddy with excitement. Seriously.

Anybody know if your MVP card will still net you an extra 10% off?

I really need to get there early so I can snatch up some Genny/SNES/GG/N64 games. Lots of good GG games, and some Genny/SNES/N64 gems that they ridiculously price such as Warsong, Secret of Mana, ALttP, Chrono Trigger, Kirby 64, Paper Mario, etc. Holy crap this rocks!!!

1. You can better believe that at 90 percent of all GameCrazy's, the employees or managers will have already set the most valuable stuff aside for themselves or their friends. So I really doubt that anybody is going to get their hands on a Chrono Trigger or Earthbound or any crap like that.

2. This could be a sign that Game Crazy is considering doing the same thing that Game Stop did. This might be the first step in them getting out of the retro game business. With the realization that they are going to be getting a bunch of XBOX 360 stuff this November, and with the need for space for that and the PSP and the DS, and the XBOX 1 and PS2 and Cube, etc, etc, etc, they could be thinking that they are going to get completely out of the retro game business, and this could be the first step in doing that. This sale will get rid of alot of their more valuable stuff, and then everything that's left might be reduced to a couple of bucks.

Well have to see what happens.

Oh, by the way, what about Game Boy and Game Boy Color?

Agreed, I'm glad I started collecting for the genesis when I did, because with the future consoles in the wake, there's just not gonna be enough room for them to carry this stuff. Kinda sucks in the end though, they were a major place for me to grab this stuff. You can believe I'm going to be going freaking apeshit on Thursday. There's about 15-20 gamecrazys from here to Mesa and I will be doing one hell of a long trip on Thursday. It's gonna be exhausting. I'm hoping for a Shining Force cart the most, I'd love to pick one up super cheap!

Thankfully the one near me kept all them since I was pretty much kicking and screaming at the district head to do so. Even though I left last summer my influence remains - although the cases are just in stacks and boxes behind the counter and it takes those idiots FOREVER to find the one you want.

Does Gamecrazy carry Saturn games? There is one near me but I've never been in.

From time to time - although usually all the local one has is a few disc only copies of ManxTT SuperBike. They stock Saturn consoles for like $15 from time to time, although at the trade in rate it's rare when one turns up.

Okay I just got off the phone with a manager from a local GameCrazy here in Waco, TX, he's cool as hell and is a die hard retro fan just like us.

It's only skin deep with them, my friend, only skin deep.

Hate to tell you but they do this the MOMENT games get traded in. Of the three GameCrazy's I've been behind the counter in, ALL of them had a full rack in the back room as well as an entire drawer where all the cool stuff is. Technically there's not limit to how long employees can "hold" items they want, although most managers (at least me) tried to keep it beneath $100 per person and for one week max - however if someone came in looking for something and really wanted it, you either had to buy it THEN or give it up. It's really an extremely poorly run company. Yet, Chrono Trigger and EarthBound don't seem to be all that popular among them, I mean - what do they really need with multiple copies? I special order copies of EarthBound all the time and resell them for 3x as much.

This could be a sign that Game Crazy is considering doing the same thing that Game Stop did. This might be the first step in them getting out of the retro game business.

My thoughts exactly although at the little GameCrazy industry show last year it looked as if they would support the older platforms (NES, GG, Genesis) for the next few years - the only one that looked like it might be on the way out was the Saturn, mainly due to the low value of trades = no trade stock coming in. I don't think they'll go as overboard as GameStop simply because GameCrazy knows the amount of money they make off retro game sales. Actually even the entire TurboGrafx-16 library is in their computers, ask them about TG-16 games some time and after scrolling through the menus that display all the prices as $00.00 they'll say something like "it looks like we don't even buy TG-16 anymore."

I'm going to remain optomistic. Right now, I believe there are only 3 employees at my GameCrazy. The manager is this rather attractive young lady, and when dealing with her, it has become apparent that she has little to no interest in video games. The main employee I see is hard to gauge. He seems like a gamer, and I can't tell if he likes the retro stuff or not, but he seems gun ho about current generation stuff. Maybe its just to push sales, I don't know. The third guy is the only one I'm worried about, hiding the good stuff. He seems like a big time gamer. But like the previous employee, I'm not sure if hes a casual going for todays games, or if he has a hint of retro collecting.

Even if they do hide the stuff, I'm sure we can all find a few things worthy of the deal.

I'm lucky that the manager for 3 stores in the area is a good friend. He was nice enough to print the N64 inventory of all 3 stores for me and anything I was interested in was transferred to the closest store and placed on hold. Only one of the stores tho had a selection of Saturn or Dreamcast games. None of the decent titles were complete either. I just had them sock away the N64 titles I would never buy for $25 or $30 used.

Whoever earlier mentioned the SNES rares is pretty much right, most everything leaves the store with the workers and resold online. There were a few decent titles for SNES but nothing I really needed.

And if it helps the sale was confirmed through him to start tomorrow and his stores open at 10AM.

I've been to all the locations around me many times. They always have a slew or rare and/or uncommon but expensive titles. I believe I have somewhere around the number of 20 stores in the area. It's gonna be a hell of a drive tomorrow, but what the hell...I got nothing else to do. I'm just gonna hit up all the good locations and stay optomistic and hope none of the employees rape the stores before I get to em.

Talked to the manager at a local GC and he told me that they are going to be phasing out everything older than current gen. They don't have the space or the warehouse room to keep older games that don't really sell that well. He was under the impression that they would still keep special order lists for certain games, but that they are going the Gamestop route. This makes me cry inside.

Agreed....it really sucks in the end. It's getting tougher to find good ol' retro games every passing year. So, for what it's worth, I'm taking advantage tomorrow and for however long this sale lasts. GC's been an incredible source for getting loose genesis carts for all my empty genesis boxes and it's kinda sad I'll probably never go there again after this sale.

Watch out for clueless Gamecrazy employees. When Gamecrazy was having a B2G1 on older games a while ago, one the clerk at the first store I went to told me all three games had to be on the same system, and then I found out at another store that it wasn't a requirement after all.

It's a shame to hear that they're phasing out the older stuff. The amount of places around here I can find older stuff is getting smaller and smaller. A few strip mall EBs just opened up here, and I was really glad that another source for finding older games opened up. And the merger with Gamestop means those stores won't have them for long. At least there are still a few other places around here where I can find older stuff, though.

Aww snap! The over priced Microplay and the fair priced, and always full of awesome, obscure stock GameCraze will soon be my only non-flea market, non-garage sales shops left for old games...

It kind of sucks that there is only one GameCrazy close to where I live. Luckily its less than a mile away :D But since its only one, the chances of me getting jack squat are high. My GC's got a crappy selection of DC games too, thats a big time bummer.

Out of those 1,500 games, 1,400 of them are copies of Gameday and other sports games. No wonder they only sell five!

Nice haul, Drexel. I wish my Gamecrazy was this cool. Mine was just built, so they have a ton of newer games, VERY few older games, and a Dreamcast rack with nothing but copies of NFL 2K and the like.

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

N64
Donkey Kong 64
Kirby 64
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

DC
Sonic Adventure 2

I would have gotten more, except that I don't have much cash and I wasn't sure how much everything was worth.

well, I'm just back from Gamecrazy: for $15 I got

Super Mario RPG [marked 24.99]
Super Mario Kart [marked 19.99]
Tetris & Dr. Mario [marked 29.99]

I can't really figure why Tetris & Dr. Mario was marked so high, but overall I still think I got a really good deal.

I didnt go too nuts. I didn't know that GB and GBC games counted, or I would have picked up more I suppose. I'll get more this weekend perhaps.

N64:
Mario Party 3 (x2)
Mario Tennis
Paper Mario

SNES:
Y's III: Wanderer's from Y's
Arkanoid - Doh it Again (I got into this after the Friday scoreboard that featured it)
Super Ghouls and Ghosts
Bust-a-Move

NES:
Megaman 2

I also picked up a first party 4 page memory card for the dreamcast. They really didnt have any good DC or PSX titles.

Hit up one store today and have to go back and pick up 3 more games once they get transferred to the local store

Ended up with:
N64
Mario Party
Mario Party 3Elmo's Letter Adventure
Elmo's Number Journey
Bomberman64
Powerpuff Girls
Super Smash Brothers
Battlezone
Roadsters
Kirby64
Tarzan

GB:
Pokemon Crystal
Pokemon Pinball

SNES:
Wing Commander 2 - normally $5 but I have been looking for it

Tomorrow I'll be getting Paper Mario, Mickey's Speedway and one other to round out the three.

As you can see the GB and GBC stuff was also $5 which I wasn't aware of until I got there. Even the manager didn't know until this morning. Didn't snag anything great as most of their stock stunk but I'll go through my database and see if I need/want any others.

I didn't scrounge up much, but I was mostly after genesis and snes. I did some work on some of the more expensive carts for the genesis, which I'm happy about but couldn't find a shining force. I've only hit up the west side (about 6 stores) so I still got a chance when me and Nez conquer the east in about an hour. Probably around 10 stores worth hitting up in that direction.

I didn't really pay any attention to n64 or psx. PSX is mostly all loose now in my area...it used to really kick ass about a year ago. DC isn't too good anymore, but I picked up a few of the more expenisve titles. The trip wasn't too hectic, I'm glad this started on a Thursday, because I was basically the only person at each store. ;D. Anyhow, here's my first haul:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/hellvin/gc0031.jpg

And that breaks down to:

Genesis

Belle's Quest
Buck Rogers
Dinoland
Frogger
Garfield
Robocop 3
Sunset Riders
Topgear 2

SNES

Battletoads In Maniacs
Brain Lord
Breat of Fire II
Bust A Move
Kirby's Dream Course
Super Mario RPG

Dreamcast

102 Dalmations
Buzz Lightyear

And I was gonna pick up Bubble Bobble but it had no cd...so after the guy threw it out, I asked for the case and he gave it to me.

Well, me and Nez are gonna go hunt in the east. Part 2 coming soon.
