What do you think are the highest valued Dreamcast games right now? I'm trying to collect only the best. I can name seven off the top of my head:

Marvel vs Capcom 2
Project Justice
Sonic Adventure 2
Power Stone 2
Cannon Spike
Ikaruga (import)
Rez (import)

What else is there?

Achika

Depends on if you want something that's *fun* or something that's *rare*. The two don't necessarily go hand in hand. I can't stand Power Stone 2 (or 1 for that matter). So I don't think it's fun, yet it's either rare or much sought after, but I think it's too early to tell.

here's the o/l dp list (for rarity & price list):

http://www.digitpress.com/lists/dreamcast.pdf

But, then there's the DP top 20 (play not rarity wise)

http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1569

If you are looking for rarity wise, I think you could also include:

Tokyo Extreme Racer
Tokyo Extreme Racer 2
Gundam: Side Story 0079
Giga Wing 2
Bangai-O (another I didn't really care for)
Mars Matrix

Soinc shuffle comes to mind, I think its rare, not sure how much its worth though.

If you're counting limited editions as seperate you'd have to throw sonic adventure limited edition in there as far as a rarity. I'd defintely say cannon spike as well, fun game and overall pretty hard to find. If you're counting imports like Rez, and Ikaruga, you'd probably want to add Shenmue 2 as well.

I've been focusing on Dreamcast for the last four months, so here's what I'd say:

As far as most expensive (top to bottom):
Ikaruga (J), Rez (E), Headhunter (E) and Taxi 2 Le Jeu (E) are all pretty expensive, though you should be able to get all for < 50.

As for US releases, most expensive are (prices are low ebay- I have most of these and haven't paid more than 15 for any):
Sonic LE (30)
Spiderman (30)
Power Stone 2 (25)
Project Justice (25)
Confidential Mission (25)
Sno-Cross CR (25)
Mars Matrix (23)
Cannon Spike (23)
Giga Wing 2 (23)
Bangai-O (22)
Marvel Capcom 2 (22)
Gundam 0079 (20)
Record of Lodoss War (20)
Star Wars: JPB (20)
Street Fighter 3rd Strike (20)

The rarest are (for American versions, in my opinion, in no particular order):
Sonic LE
Sports Jam
Cannon Spike
Confidential Mission
Gundam 0079
King of Fighters Dream Match 1999
Street Fighter 3 Third Strike
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2
Midway Greatest Hits 2
Midway Greatest Hits 1
Striker Pro 2000
Giga Wing 2
Ducati World Racing Challenge
Worms World Party

Hard to find peripherals:
Broadband Adapter (100)
Sega brand Maracas (100)
Web Browser 3.0 (50)

Is Sonic Adventure LE the Hollywood Video test version? Or something else entirely? It seems almost silly to pay that much $ for half a game if it's the test version cause that only had like 3 levels!..... :)

Another I'd add to the list is Gauntlet. It will usually run you over $20 on eBay, and obviously you can't find it retail any longer.

And I'm also interested to know what's different about Sonic LE.

Sonic Adventure LE is not a partial game. It is a full version. I think the difference has something to do with Internet playability. On my LE it has an option for online play, does the regular version? I was never online with the DC so never played it that way.

Checking ebay, It's really odd how Spiderman and even Grand Theft Auto 2 are now in the $20-$30 range. These games are just ports and are WIDELY available on Playstation 1 and PC for so much less. Go figure.

The difference in Sonic LE is also that they've fixed some bugs.

DP, I've been watching a bunch of sources for Sonic LE and it's sold for in that area. A disc only sold on ebay, even, for 25 bucks last month. I agree, though, it will be worth a lot more once people start to finish up their DC collections.

DP, On that Sonic Le you bid on, can you do me a favor? I only now had the money to pick up a copy, so I offered the seller 30 + 4 shipping to end and send me the game (I'm going back to college on the 12th, and I wanted to have it get here before I left home). He said Ok, send the money and I'll end the auction. I agreed, and Paypaled him. 5 days ago. He still hasn't ended the auction nor answered my email nor returned the money. As the auction is still going on, I'm willing just to forget it and have him return my money.

The price is a little rich for my blood right now, so I'm going to wait for another shot at the game. However, if you win, could you try and get him to return my money? I have the Paypal reciept and information still from the transaction, plus all my email communications. Thanks for your help.

Kevin

Also, Lexicon, what would you be interested in trading/selling for your extra copy?

Up for auction is a copy of Sonic Adventure LIMITED edition. This is the RAREST of all Dreamcast titles. This game was released to Hollywood video mon ths priot to the release to show off what the system could do. It shows some changes in the music, as well as the game as to where certain things are. This game was recently features in the magazine "Tips and Tricks". Unfortunaly I do not have a picture of this, however, I will try and get one up if I can. This game comes with the Manual as well as the case. However, the game has some scratches on it as it was used. Act now and get this VERY rare copy of Sonic Adventure before time runs out!

How about Dream Dorobo. Was this released in any format for DC?

I think Dreameye/Visual Park was a JPN only release. Biomotorunitron had one a few months ago. Lan-kwei had some I think.

DreamEye was released only in Japan - the combo pack with "digital camera" + software. Not hard to find, afaik the s/h market is flooded with them in Japan.

Oh, and did I see a request somewhere for the publisher of "Giant Killers" in Europe on the DC? It was AAA Games Ltd, developed by io productions and Smoking Gun Productions, according to the back of the box.

I've been searching and collecting [urge started when stores were clearing out games] since late 2000, I've concluded that the SINGLE RAREST US Dreamcast game among regular release:

STRIKER PRO 2000

I don't think any other games come close to this game, many are rare, but if you look around hard enough online, there're almost always some if you're willing to fork out $$, not this game, I've only seen 2 copies new at my local TRU, at the time I thought who were willing to fork out $50 for a mediocre title when others [even awesome] titles were on clearance, I missed out those 2 sealed copies simply by waiting out. Striker Pro 2000 is very common, however, in Europe [PAL version].

However, the highest value US DC game is

Street Fighters: 3rd Strike

Other games I find very hard to find sealed copy, but not as bad as Striker Pro

Confidential Mission
Power Stone 2
Starlancer
Project Justice
Reel Fishing Wild
Gundam Side Story 0079
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2

As for some of the games mentioned earlier

Marvel vs Capcom 2 - my store ShopKo (and surrounding chains) had 20 on clearance in early 2002
SF3 - 3rd Strike - my local TRU had 10 last year
Rush 2049 - my store (and surrounding chains) had 6 on clearance in early 2002
Gauntlet Legend - my store (and surrounding chains) had 4 on clearance in early 2002
Ducati - Acclaim's online store has it now for $10, I just got one along with Psychic Force 2012 which is rarer than Ducati.
Crazy Taxi 2 - what? rare, check eBay and see how many sealed copies are there if you're willing to fork out $$.

Needless to say, I horded all those games and put them either on eBay or traded for other new games I couldn't find in my areas otherwise. I also drove around and checked all TRU, K-Mart, Circuit City, Best Buys, Walmart, and CompUSA in Minneapolis/St. Paul and Southern MN, I managed to find almost all of them, even at bargain.

Lost Monkey
09-01-2003, 02:26 AM
Suzuki Alstare
Gauntlet Legends

- Both of these titles were available in large quantities last year at a local store, I ended up eBaying about 20 Gauntlets for $9.99-$12.99, but couldn't even sell one copy Suzuki Alstare.

Rush 2049

Late last year, it seemed like every TRU in southern Ontario had scads of these at $6.99CDN.

I am still waiting for the local TRU to drop the prices on the 30+ titles they have left... some of them are still as high as $64.99CDN.

Daltone
09-01-2003, 05:34 AM
Giga Wing 2 - $44. Heh, they have them for £3 in Gamestation. Time for a wee trippe me thinks. Giant Killers doesn't seem so rare though (in PAL anyway) It seems like every shop I go to (that still stocks dreamcast stuff) has at least one copy. SNK vs Capcom (Capcom Vs SNK?) I've never seen though. Ever. I thought it must have been a non-PAL release for ages untill a friend of mine said he had had a copy.

vincewy

Daltone:

If you're into collecting Dreamcast - PAL version, this is the PERFECT TIME to do so, I check eBay in the last few weeks, tons of stores/sellers in UK dumping new copies of most titles like there's no tomorrow for pennies, this is like what it was a yr to 18 months ago in US where lots of stores/merchants/sellers throwing away US DC games, now in US many titles (especially new, sealed) have started drying up and become difficult to find.

Taxi 2: Le Jeu took me a while to find. Same with Pro Pinball(PAL), 90 Minutes(PAL) and REZ(PAL).

Cosmic Smash is getting to be quite rare too.

The one thing I haven't been able to find at a decent price though is the official PAL Samba de Amigo and Maracas bundle.

Most of the US games quoted as rare here pop up on ebgames.com every now and then, though it is a gamble if you will get the game loose or not. I got Gundam with just the manual, but Midway Arcade Classics vol 2 was complete and in perfect condition. ( and :) respectively).

I wouldn't recommend paying more than $10 for it used. You might also check around at your local Toys R Us stores, they might still have it new for $20 or so.

FWIW, the maracas weren't included with the game, but if you're serious about playing it they're a MUST have (though very expensive). It's awesomely outrageous fun. :)

I'd imagine the prototype (review copy) of Half Life for the Dreamcast would be worth a pretty penny. It never was released, but a fair few people were sent review copies. hoohooo, found Soldier of Fortune at my local TRU, it wasn't displayed but when I asked about it, the clerk said he'll check the back stock, and bingo, last copy in the store. IN this case, I'll be checking for more games they have, it seems Southern Minnesota is deviod of DC fans, stores had to clear out really good games and TRU still has a few rare titles in stock.

Now that the ROM for Half-Life has been dumped you can get yourself the beta for a very reasonable price. Somewheres around 200-400. Finding one is another story but since you need the System disk to play the actual beta many owers are willing to sell as most don't have the system disk.

I was in Canada last week (Toronto area), certain stores have games that I previously thought were rare in US, yet plenty in Canada.

For example, Don Mill store has 4-5 copies of Industrial Spy and Pacman, downtown (Queen/Young) has Bangaio, Virtual On, Evil Dead, Air Force Delta (too many on shelf), Scarborough (Cedarbrae Mall) has 4-5 copies of Bust A Move 4, F355, Bangai-o, Record of Lodoss War, Whitby store has 6 copies of Virtual On (my buddy and I grabbed them all).

Don't waste time with Pickering (just opened in the last 12 months) and Dufferin Mall (located in the middle of low income area). I didn't have chance/time to check out other stores in Kitchener, London, or Windsor, I'm sure they have some rare titles too. I've bought a few rarer DC titles from Canadian sellers off eBay before checking them out and no wonder they can get them easily.

One thing for sure, Capcom fighters/shooters are no where to be found, sure to be rare in the future.

I was therefore able to replace certain games for my collection so some games (rare ones too) will be for sale, so check sales/trade section.

Yeah, to be specific, it's "Taxi 2: Le Jeu" by Ubisoft. If that IS the game they had, please pick it up for me and contact me about how I can reimburse you (not necessarily in that order).

OK, after over a year, I think this thread deserves an update.

The rarest (not the most sought after games) US Dreamcast titles, in term of availability of both new and used are:

Sno-Cross Championship
4X4 Evolution
Worms World Party
Gundam Side Story 0079
Reel Fishing Wild
Sports Jam
Urban Chaos

While the most sought after Dreamcast games, commanding the most $$ are:

Power Stone 1
Power Stone 2
All Capcom sidescrolling shooters (except Giga Wing 1)
All Capcom 2D fighters (except Plasma Sword)
Last Blade 2
Fatal Fury MOTW
Project Justice
Bangai-o
DOA2
both KOF titles

Needless to say, I love most of DC games, especially the racing and puzzles titles that most gamers ignore, game on.

How about that big Space Channel 5 2 boxset? The white one? I never see it for sale anywhere....

If the copy of Seaman that was packed in with the Seaman Xmas DC has any sort of different packaging, then that surely counts amount the rarest of the rare....

Isn't the Macross M3 LE version pretty rare now? I remember when it was $9 on ebay.....shoulda bought it.

The reason I opened up this thread, as time goes by and Dreamcast games disappearing from retail floors, the more realistic values of games start to come out and polarize, ie, sports and Acclaim (except Ferrari F355, Bust-A-Move 4, Re-Volt and Fur Fighters of course) games become worthless, even the 2K2 series, Capcom fighters and shooters become gems and much sought after, even though SF3: Thrid Strike's value goes down a little now because of SF Ann on PS2 and soon Xbox, but it should creep back up, this is evident on Marvel vs Capcom 2, now all version either new or like new command a lot of $$.

The rarest game doesn't always mean the most valueble, Sno-Cross Championship is crap yet alsmot impossible to find new, so is Urban Chaos. In the last few days I saw a lot fo DC games popping up on eBay mainly from TRU clearance, which threw some market price off the curve as some sellers dumped them in a hurry for quick profit (I got Capcom vs SNK, MSR, and Vanishing Point sealed for $5 each),.
