What is the best LE variation of a common home console you can think of? (Pictures would be appreciated with each nomination)
One of my favourites is this:

The GBA SP has so many variations now, and this has got to be one of the best!

Crystal xbox is a close runner up

Silly though it may look, I think the Pokemon Nintendo 64 is pretty dam cool is a so uncool way. I wish I had one of these to go in my "coat of many colors" condo.

I'd have to say...
http://www.classicplastic.info/HelloKittyDC01.jpg
Hello Kitty Dreamcast (pink variation, there was a blue as well). If there was ever a way to get your significant other (if they're not already) into gaming this would have to be it. Then again if they're into neo-Japanese crap like Hello Kitty then they probably play games as it is. Still cool though.

Actually that Hello Kitty DC *does* look awesome; the logos aren't TOO obstrusive and the semi-transparent purple...not too shabby :D
One of my favorites is the semi-transparent red N64, if it even can be considered an LE.
Another good one - the white Game Gear.

I'd say the white XBox, or the Panzer Dragoon Orta Xbox. I also really like the teal LE Sword of Mana GBA.

yeah, that's my second favorite.
@ enigma: yes modding consoles does rule, i've done a few myself, but that was a LE! i can't imagine taking apart a limited edition console! (that's the collector inside me crying out ;) )

I actually modded a kiosk Dreamcast (which has beefy metal heatsinks installed, a metal radiator around the fan, etc.) but it was just a exterior paint mod - flat black. However the shell that I painted was from another Dreamcast and I kept the kisok shell, have it put away. I'm hoping eventually the friend I modded the kiosk DC for will eventually not want it or I'll be able to trade for it (he really doesn't care that it's a kiosk model - we were both at Target when I managed to smuggle it out.. ahh, the perks of running the electronics department in a store full of idiots) then I'll swap the internals into its original shell. Not an LE but again one of those consoles that people cringe over when they hear that I modded it - until I explain.
Oh, and just for reference, here's what I was talking about concerning some of the internal differences...

I like the Panzer Dragoon Xbox, but there aren't very many pictures around of it... Only 666 of those made I believe???
The best mod I have ever seen has to be that Xbox Millennium Falcon which was on eBay a few months back.
The worst has to be that ghastly Mountain Dew / Hulk one though. Yuk.
The Kasumi Chan one is nice. I am thankful to have one of the blue Canadian ones on it's way, which looks almost identical! Will look nice next to my green and crystal ones!
As for the zelda SP - The Competition one (Made with real gold) is the nicer one - Only 7 in existence I believe...

The Hello Kitty isn't really an LE. Thousands of them out there. I'm a bit partial to the Biohazard STARS DC b/c I own one, even though I'm not much of a fan of the series...

True I do come across the Hello Kitty console / controller from time to time but I haven't seen the whole smash (in person that is) very often. If that's the case the NES GBA and the Famicom GBA don't count as LE's either since they were common stock. I consider a system an LE if it has a limited run (ie Limited Edition ) not JUST the promo items such as the Mountain Dew XBox.
The colored PS2's, special make GBA's, bundle systems (even the Sega Sports DC), etc. that have revisions to the physical console appearance are all limited run releases and there by are LE's. Yes, some are rarer than others and some are more in demand as others, but they are still LE releases.

I assume everything is a limited edition then. Each run of hardware has a model number, yeah? Limited Edition usually means "limited to exactly the amount we think we can sell at a high price", which basically means not limited at all. :(

There was actually more.... I think there was a defect or something on some of them, or some weird story. I didn't follow it, but there some weird recollection of it in my head.

There were 1,049 Limited Edition White Panzer Dragoon sets made. At first Sega said they were only going to release 999. After the 999 pre-orders sold out in a matter of hours, Sega announced that they would be releasing another 50. I am not sure what the reasoning behind the extra 50 was. I remember hearing a rumor that they were for employees, but that could be totally wrong for all I know. Anyway, the final number was 1,049. Never took any pictures of mine as I have never opened it :embarrassed:.

Any modern nominations? As ghastly as it looks, I would nominate the Yellow "Simpsons Movie" Xbox 360 as falling into this category, plus it'll be sought after in years to come as it is extremely limited

CX-1 Divers 2000 Dreamcast FTW!
http://www.playright.dk/screens/dreamcastdivers2000cx1_dc_03.jpg
Every other Ltd Ed console is really just a color or artwork variation of the standard casing (other than the Pikachu N64). The Divers blows this away, and is surely one of the finest examples of console design ever.
I am quite partial to pink consoles though. Don't know why, but I think they look cool even though I'd never have one. Pink PStwo, PSP, DS, Dreamcasts and even pink iPods look cool.

My personnal faves by console are:-
Saturn - Derby Stallion Smokey
DC - Divers
Xbox - Orta
Cube - Pearl White (Crystal Chronicles) & Gundam Red
Gameboy - Light gold/silver
SP - Famicom
Micro - Famicom
Misc
Wondermega XC1
Panny Q
PC Engine LT
The Hi-Navi Saturn is pretty sweet. Same goes with the Panzer Dragoon ORta Xbox, I only heard 999. Love to see a source for the extra 50.
A month or two ago I came across some sweet crystal encrusted DS Lites at Nintendo World. I'll post the pics and video this weekend.

I can't find a pic of it anywhere, but many years ago some big name jeweler in England that made a diamond-encrusted Game Gear. I'm not sure if it was officially endorsed by Sega, but I thought it was cool nonetheless. The Magic Knight Rayearth and Coca-Cola LE Game Gears are pretty nifty too.

The white game gear bundle is pretty spiffy (part of what makes that one so cool, though, is that its a full bundle all in a nice white finish).
The skeleton saturn is one of the cooler looking LE consoles. Of course the HI-Navi as well.
BUT the winner, in my mind, is the PDS Orta XBOX :)

As far as the Gameboy, I love the classic take on it. NES SP for the unit itself and the JPN Famicom Micro for the boss packaging.
