Look. The fact that somebody trying to get a new Dreamcast at Best Buy or Wal-Mart or Target isn't going to be able to get one is a HUGE FREAKING DEAL, whether you like to believe so or not.

Although most of us are going to move on to XBOX or GameCube or PS2, there are scores of lower income people that would very much like to buy the Dreamcast for $149.99.

They would like to buy a "new" one. The fact that they aren't even going to have that option is a pretty freaking big deal.

In fact, I think it's totally unprecidented in the History of Video Games, when we are talking about a "major" console with considerable marketshare, and it's production being halted so quickly. This has never, ever happened before. Not this quickly after the introduction of a successor.

The PS2 will be less than 90 days old, and you won't be able to find a Dreamcast brand new anywhere. Except for maybe on Ebay from some profiteer that is going to jack the price way up.

Give me an example of any other "major" console that stoped production while it was still a very viable machine with a nice chunck of market share. There isn't any.

This is definitely an unprecidented move by Sega, and there are going to be some unpleasant ramifications from this decision. I'm sure that Sega looked at this seriously and came to the conclusion that they have no other choice but to stop production, and that there will be some very frustrated and dissapointed consumers looking to buy a bran new PS2 or GameCube next year, but they are going to have to live with that.

I guarantee that once the official news comes out about this, it's going to be a huge headline for every gaming magazine, website, etc, etc. This is going to be some huge, and somewhat shocking news.

I know! I'm so worried about the fact that I won't be able to play any more Dreamcast games because I can't find them anywhere since WalMart isn't carrying them any more!

I spoke with one of my friends Joe Sixpack (who posted earlier in this thread) who keeps a finger on the entire industry and gets paid a handsome salary at that, and he says that he thinks that the market share for the Dreamcast may be taken over by some newer system. That because it isn't being sold any more, it makes the Xbox and PS2 more tempting to consumers, who will then have to walk out of the store -- like he did -- with more dept on his credit card than he would've if he had got a Dreamcast.

This will lead to more people owing their credit cards more money, and credit card companies making more money off interest payments, which will mean that soon no one will be able to buy anything!

I blame it all on WalMart for no longer carrying the Dreamcast.

I'm shocked about two things: first about the news, second about your post!

1. How DARE you to make fun of the Dreamcast, Sega and Walmart. What's next? Me as a smarty pants poster who knows so pretty much everything, yourself, Miyamoto or John Kerry? 2. I dragged myself in shock, in fever and full of aspirin to a Walmart tonight. You are deadly wrong! Sure, I couldn't find a Dreamcast there (or DC games, which is even worse), but I talked to the manager. I was unpleasant, furious, and I think I made another enemy (what can I say? I'm a peoples person). However, I could post-order a DC because he, the manager, who is in his free time also a market analyst for the Lachter group, assured me that Sega makes still money on every DC sold.

There you have it! I'll even get a sealed Record of Lodoss War with it after I pointed out that I found a one-penny DC-Space Channel 5 at Circuit City a month ago.

The manager also told me a secret: there will be a new designed, much smaller DC available in a couple of months, co-manufactured, approved, and designed by WalMart. Wi-FI, wireless controllers, voice chat, able to play DVDs, streaming videos, jpgs, AND it comes free with meatloaf recipes, the latter even available in component video. It comes bundled with a special game: The WalMart spree featuring John and Theresa.

No DC at WalMart? Dumbness, these are all rumors spread by Sony, MS and N at E3.

Anthony, relax. Look, you are one of the most active and valuable posters on here, and you get a lot of responses. I always like to read your hands-on expertise in electronics and how to get the best out of games.

But we all have our weaknesses sometimes we get wrapped up in issues others don't find important; and good fun will follow. Look at me, for example: I'm a smarty-pants, a Mr.-Know-It-All (I really think I'm one of the smartest guys around), and write very long and long-winded posts.

Digitalpress, our beloved Joe Santulli himself, made once a parody post in which he used one of my sentences about the future of N and the Revolution: "can't you see the writing on the wall?"

I found it funny because he hit two nails on the head: first, the sometimes exaggerated speculations about companies/systems; second, the sentence summarized exactly my know-it-all attitude. I like to tell people, what can I tell you? :) (btw, I was exactly right about N and the system! Right? I told you so! :) )

Arcade Antics did the same. He made fun of the thread, of you, all the posters who participated. One person's very important issue and style is another person's "Duh." This fun is criticism, no doubt about it, but it is well-intended. To make good fun of others is as important as to make fun of yourself. It helps us to take ourselves not too seriously.

A good advice: wait for an opportunity to make fun of Arcade Antics, the lil' critter deserves it. :)

Again, I go back to the time they changed the word RGB to show up as "Warm Chocolate Pudding". That was some super funny ish right there. I mean, when I first read that I was laughing so hard that tears started to come down my face, I was really busting a gut over that one. That was some funny stuff. I have taken both of your posts into consideration.. I have read a LOT of posts from both of you and have decided to pick a favorite. Lets start with Arcades..

His are informative, enjoyable and get to the point in a paragraph (most of the time). He tends to post more about the old'un games (atari etc) and always has fresh material.

Now for yours..
After reading 1/2 of most of your posts, I start to wonder what reading the novelization of "gigli" would be like and if it could compare to the inticement I feel when I read your posts. Anothony1: No one here hates you. I think that most people's problem with you is that you are the internet version of someone who talks just to hear their own voice. You keep saying how you are this asshole bad-ass guy, but I don't think that anyone thinks that. I think that you might want to think it because you want to be Mr. Italian Tough Guy, but no one else agrees. There are others on this board who have perfected the art of assholiness, and we love them for it. You have perfected the art of online verbal diarrhea, and no one loves you for that.

Speaking only for myself, I find your posts about the technical aspects of AV setups, s-video-RGB, etc. to be highly informative. Who gives a shit if they are about 13X longer than they need to be. What I find annoying is your tendency to creat 10,000 page-long posts that are either expressing your own speculation (XBox thread) or your posts that are totally self serving and leech off of our collective knowledge (help me make an eBay price guide, how much do SNES games go for on ebay, etc.) Most people wouldn't be inclined to read them if they were a few sentences, let alone 9 paragraphs. The bottom line is that you at times fill up the front page of the VG forum with 9 threads that no one but you wants to read, and you have too high an opinion of your own opinion. You could stand to be a bit more humble.

This is all just constructive criticism, man. I certainly have no problem with you, and if I were you I would be flattered by the fact that someone went out of their way to create a parody of you. But instead of saying "Good one man, thanks" and letting it roll off your back, you complained about it. I know you think that makes you come off like Mr. Italian Tough Guy, but all it does is make you come off like a whiner.
