Wow, this game hits me right in the nerd gland.
If you haven't heard of it, it's a Dreamcast game where you control a team of up to 5 superdeformed tokusatsu heroes. To start, you can choose Kamen Rider 1, Kikaider, or the red Go Ranger. As you progress the game, you run into more heroes (and villians) along the way. I haven't gotten too terribly far yet, but damnit this game has SD kamen riders and Big One from JAKQ so I'm sold.
Obviously this is a game for genre fans. Gameplay wise, it's actually not all that terribly intense or deep (at least far as I can tell knowing no Japanese). The game plays much like episodes of a show, there are eyecatches at load times and whenever someone new shows up they have their themesong (themes are also used for battle, seems most the stages are focused mostly on one show, and therefore that theme plays). There's even a narrarator at the end of each stage (ganbare, HERO!). All the characters have special moves you can pull off, although the points used by the moves are fairly sparsely given to you. I'm guessing there's also combo moves as I managed to get Rider 1 and 2 to do the rider double kick. I'm guessing that the go rangers and JAKQ have their football moves too but I have yet to actually play as a whole sentai team at once.
So far I've ran into Kamen riders 1, 2, V3, X, Go Ranger, JAKQ (with Big One!), Kikaider, Kikaider 01, Inazuman, and a few other guys I don't even recognize. I have yet to fill the first page of hero profiles. If there's a 70s henshin hero you're a fan of there's a decent chance they're in this game. I dunno how far ahead it goes yet...I'm hoping to run into a few more sentai teams soon.
Oh yeah, I was supposed to be talking about gameplay. The games mostly takes place on fairly sparse environments, the city, a school, the secret evil guy lab (which has exploded like 4 times now, heh), caves, ect. You get to pick your team of up to 5 heroes depending on the stage, and give them a few items to hold. Then you run around on the map and usually get attacked by henchmen, kick their asses to build your special points, and move on. Eventually you'll find the monster-of-the-stage, or sometimes a reoccuring villian and fight them. Often teh first fight they will either not be hurt or run away, and you have to find them again. Alternatively, this is also a time when new characters show up to help you. After that you look for the MOTL again and beat his ass either killing him or making him run off to another stage. As you clear stages more will open up. The fighting is fairly simple, there's a punch and a kick, or specials and items. Specials will hit enemies on the squares the target pattern lights up. If you punch twice then kick quickly, you'll kill a henchman and any henchmen standing behind him (I think my record was 6 in one kick).
This game is pretty repetitive, but if you are into these kinda shows you'll probably be telling yourself "one more stage then I quit...WHO WAS THAT? ok one more stage..."..
If anyone has more info on this game please let me know. I'm stuck fighting the glowy ball boss on 74 or so (one of the stages with "god" in the title). Too many fights in this stage, not to mention first guy always cuts out half your HP. Do any of the characters have a healing special maybe?
