I just found a very complete copy of Gunstar Heroes today for the Genesis. When I say very complete, I not only mean the cart, manual and box. This copy (though not sealed) came with a Fruit Roll-Up inside the box. The Roll-Up is still in its wrapper and says "Free Sample With this Video Game" on it. I guess it was a promotion at the time.
Anyone else ever come across one of these? Also, I can't seem to find the rarity of my 12 year old Fruit Roll-Up in the online DP Guide. :D

Yeah, strange it would be an opened game, but still have that in there. I say keep it somwhere nice, or scan it or something.
Or, you could check and see if there are any Fruit Roll-Up collectors on eBay!
:-P

Now that you mention it, I did get a few fruit roll-ups with a Genny game or two way back in the day... but I ate them! Dammit, I should have held onto them! They must be at least an R5 by now! LOL

I remember my copy of Greatest Heavyweights came with a roll-up back when it was new as well. I also ate it, thus dooming it to be incomplete ;)

When it comes to foodbox collecting they always throw out the food to prevent rotting / insect damage. I'm sure that with all the chemicals found in modern foods that the rollup won't go too horribly rotten for a long time, but it may be a good idea to very carefully remove the roll while keeping the wrapper.

I thought it would never come to this, but I wanna buy the fruit roll-up thing. If anybody has been able to resist opening and licking one to death, throw me a PM.
HAHA I have heard about the fruit roll up plus Gunstar Heroes but never even considered finding one with it still intact!
One week when your really hungry it might start to look good, well better than selling a game to put food on the table...

When I was 15 we found a Big Lots that still had first series Garbage Pail Kids for $0.05 each. So we bought them all went and watched a movie and played at the arcade.
Waiting for our Mom's to come pick us up we decided to open them. I put like 5 pieces in my mouth (of this 8 year old gum) and I almost puked. I can still remember it's taste @_@ ..............NASTY!

Been there before. I remember when Richies Playhouse was still open, they had a tray full of Ninja Turtles trading card packs with the still gum inside. The year was 2001 so id assumed the gum was at least 12 years old. Holy shit was it hard...

Not exactly a fruit roll up, but last christmas I was visiting my brother's family in Halifax, NS and the corner drug store had 1988 O-Pee-Chee (canadian version of Topps) Baseball cards.
I bought a couple packs for nostalgic value since it was the first baseball cards I had ever bought as a child.
And I did try the gum, but it wasn't gum anymore. The stuff instantly crumbled into a sharp, foul tasting powdery substance in my mouth. And yet I still tried to chew it, to form it into a lump of gum until I finally gave up. The stuff just wouldn't stick to itself. It was like spitting out wet cement.
I bet the fruit rollup is a little tastier though.... try it.... 8-)
aw man, I don't want to read anymore about old gum, sounds disgusting!!

did the actual fruit roll up packaging have anything about genesis or sega on it, or was it unmarked? do you know if it has any difference with the normal fruit roll up wrappers at the time?

The gum is just as bad when it's brand new. Are they still doing that?

I wish I found candy in my videogame hauls. :(
A match made in heaven, it should have become a standard to include an edible with every videogame. Grand Theft Auto chicken wing anyone?
