I don't think we've done this in a while, but here's my list of modern system limited edition variants (NSTC/UC). Anything missing? If anyone has the Euro/Jap info, feel free to add it. I'm taking Limited Edition to mean "not simply a color variation". Must be able to play normal released games without mod chips.
PSX:
Green Debug
Blue Debug
PsOne Debug (maybe only one exists, maybe not NSTC/UC)
Net Yaroze
10 Million Model
PS2:
Silver
Red
Yellow
Blue
White
Test
Test HDD
Gamecube:
Platinum
Xbox:
Green Halo
Blue Halo 2 (any difference between this and the Canada-only Blue "Bell World" system?)
Crystal
Launch Team Special Edition
White EA Sports Xbox Live
I'm also not sure on handheld stuff, but I use the NES GBASP and Tommy Hilfiger GBC, so I'd love to see a list :-).

Might want to class the five "European Automobile colour editions" as such, otherwise people will think these are just standard consoles with a different colour.
Also might be worth stating that there are only 666 per region (A total of 2,000) of each colour... The model numbers, and serial numbers are also unique compared to standard editions, unlike the Satin Silver and Aqua Blue versions which retain the standard model numbers and random serial numbers.#
I can also add the Resident Evil Platinum / Black GameCube to the list which is from the UK / France, and is rumoured to have only had 10,000 units produced
There is also the Spice coloured Cube which was only avilable at launch to the first several thousand people who pre-ordered one. Not too sure on the actual numbers, but is something like 2,000 / 3,000
I was also led to believe that the blue Halo II Xbox was a Canadian exclusive - And apparently, there is no difference between these and the "Bell World" ISP promotion (It is said that these are what was left over from that and repackaged with Halo II)
Might also like to go into a little more depth about the launch Xbox as well - Ie, note that it is the same as the green Halo edition, except has a launch "Jewel" signed by Bill Gates
The UK also had a green edition (Same as the Halo one) but without any games bundled with it. It came with two green controllers.
We also got the Crystal edition with two controllers, before it went on general sale as a standard colour (But onlt came with one controller) - Thus making the original release limited
You also missed off the Hulk and Mountain Dew Xbox's too!
;)

You're right about the Mt. Dew - slipped my mind. The "Hulk" is the same machine, right?
The Launch team Xbox is the same case color as the Halo machine, but it also has "Special Edition" on the front of the box (in addition to the jewel).
Thanks for the info about the halo 2 box.

Gamecube wise in Japan I can think of...
Metal Gear Solid edition (platinum with Foxhound lid art)
Mobile Suit Gundam Red edition
Tales of Symphonia Green edition
Hanshin Tigers edition (team's colours)

If you're including the debug Playstations as a 'Limited Edition', doesn't that open the door to a whole world of other dev/industry hardware?

The white crystal chronicles gamecube; 100 onyl and could only be obtained through a competition.
There were also two disctinct Satin Silver PS2's released here in Australia. There is the much rarer version that was only available if you bought a $2000 Sony Trinatron TV. This system has a Unique box that is different to the regular saturn silver ps2 that was more easily available.
I have got a picture of the box if needed.
There were also two crystal xbox's released in Australia. The first one came with Project Gotham 2 and the second came with two controllers and has "limited edition" written on the jewl, unlike the Project Gotham one.

Here you go, The final fantasy crystal chronicles: Crystal white edition.
Limited to 150 & given away as prizes in a competition run by the Japanese games magazine dengeki. Making it the rarest gamecube limited edition you can get.
The paint on it is pearl white & looks amazing in the flesh.

Oobgarm - the partner Xbox is very cool, hadn't seen that before. It looks a lot like the Launch Team box. Does it say anything on the right side of the front?
anagrama - As far as I know, most dev hardware doesn't play commercial releases. The Sony machines do, however.

Man and I thought My Halo LE Xbox rocked. That one signed by Bill gates Beats all.
What I wouldn't do for the Blue Halo 2 xbox though. I guess that kinda of makes up for Canada getting somewhat of the short end when it comes to game releases there.
BTW why does the Crystal Chronicals Gamecube have a Mario Kart double dash sticker on it?

It's not a sticker its a replacement nameplate for the lid. The mario kart nameplate was from club nintendo.
The crystal cube came with a normal black namplate in it originally.

Ah, we also had the Metroid console bundle pack, which (Like the Japanese MGS version) was just a standard Cube with a different lid plate featuring Samus in armour.
As far as GameBoy Advance SP's are concerned - In the UK we have had quite a few "LE's": Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire versions - Limited to 5,000 (Dark red with Groudon on, or dark blue with Kyogre on)
Kingdom Hearts version (Black & silver with Kingdom Hearts logo)
Zelda - Minish Cap edition (Gold with Triforce logo)
NES edition (Coloured in same style as a NES)
Mario Vs Donkey Kong edition (Red & silver)
Tribal edition (Silver with tattoo design)
Girl version (Pink in pink flowery packaging)
And maybe a few more as wel which i've missed out - Many more also in Japan!

There's a load of Japanese GBA SP's I purposly didn't include...
These were the majority of the LE ones released in the UK - I also left out the Gold plated Zelda one (Which I think there are only 7 of) which was a prize in a competition.
There is also a box set in a dislay case of the Zelda one with Minish Cap too.
No doubt we will also be granted another new one later this year for Pokemon Emerald...

Nope. Far as I know, no special controller either. Mine came with what appears to be an off-the-shelf translucent green one.

I was under the assumption that we were only doing "Current" consoles... Otherwise I would have included a whole she-bang of LE DreamCast's...
Although whether or not the DC is actually still considered "Current" is debateable, as technically it still is - It even still has games being released for it (Ie, Trizeal Etc)

06-20-2005, 04:46 AM
Oobgarm - you might want to take a look again at that controller. The Launch Team box comes with 2 "prototype" controllers; translucent green controllers were never released for sale in the "large controller" version. I assume your box has the same.

and Randnet LE smoke black N64 in Japan...
Gemini-Phoenix
06-21-2005, 06:38 AM
Yeah, the N64 had two Pikachu versions.
The first was just a standard N64 shape in blue / yellow, with Pikachu printed onto it.
The second one was actually a much better machine, and was a lot larger than the standard N64. It had a moulded Pikachu on one side. The "On" switch was a Poke Ball, and Pikachu's cheeks lighted up red when the power was on!
There was also the crystal coloured N64's too - Green, Sky Blue, Smoke Black, Ruby Red, and Orange (Maybe a couple of others as well)

<Sighs>
That's the thing with America - You have all these big corporations which get all these kewl exclusives made for them. Toys R Us. Walmart. EB. Blockbuster. Etc...
We don't get it so much here, although lately I have noticed one or two games being released with exclusive LE GameStation / GAME packaging - Ie, Devil May Cry III; Dead Or Alive Ultimate; Resident Evil IV - To name a few...
We also got an LE N64 here - It was called the "Limited gold edition" - Basically, it was the usual boring old N64 packaged with one of those gold controllers.
It also wasn't as limited as you would have thought either - It seems every other person has one of those gold controllers!!! Lol!

If memory serves me right...
Didnt the GBC have a few LE models in the US?
Tommy Hilfiger "Back to school" which was the regular dandelion color with the hilfiger logo in the middle of the controls area.
I think, I think there were two different pokemon (Red, Blue, Yellow) Color models too, one had a pokeball around the power LED and the other had one of pikachu's cheeks on it. I think the buttons were also colored differently.
Then there was the Silver pokemon edition for Gold/Silver. Dont remember much about this one, we used to have a used one in the babbage's I worked in.
I know the original GBA had some limited editions too, all i can think of was:
Target: Red with the Target logo at the bottom of the screen.
TRU: Black with the TRU logo at the bottom of the screen.
And a limited edition silver one released by the big N themselves.
Who knows, I could be entirely wrong.
