View Full Version : Games Where Women Have Saved Men!

Bear with me...I just happened to think about this the other night and thought it would make a okay topic. :D

We're all familiar with the common sterotype -- some kind of a guy, be it a fighter, magic user, do-gooder, etc, ends up going on a quest or happens to save a woman in distress and in serious trouble, blah blah blah. Seen it in countless games. Mario, Zelda, Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy....the list goes on. While it's most common to have this happen in RPG and adventure games, it can branch out into other genere's also.

But what about games where the situation is REVERSED?

What games can you think off where a female charcter has saved the main charcter of the game (male) from death, or gotten them out of a pretty big jam? Note this can't be applied for the whole party or more then one person -- it has to be a woman saving the main guy and JUST him alone.

I suspect there's a LOT more cases then we are all aware off out there.....and it can also lend some evidence for the theory that women are playing more important roles in games now then they used to.

Game text where it could be spoilers is in black text -- highlight to read.

Here's the examples I could think of:

Kingdom Hearts: There is scene in the second half of the game where Sora gets changed into a Heartless creature -- he's basicaly defenseless and can die if someone blows on him. When he happens to run back into the party, his best friend Kiri is able to reconize him in his 'mutated' form. Shortly after, a battle breaks out, and while Donald and Goofy deal with the problem, Kiri kneels in front of the Heartless Sora form and says "Don't worry -- this time, it's my turn to protect you."

Wild Arms: Around the middle of the game, Rudy hacks off his own arm in order to save himself, Jack, and Cecilia from death after the battle with Zeikfried. After the battle, it's discovered that Rudy is a robot. He's in a coma while his two friends try to restore his arm. During that quest, Cecilia checks on Rudy, gets sucked into his dream, and ends up fighting Elizabeth, a monster, for his soul. After the battle she holds him and her words are enough to save his soul and get them out of the dream where Rudy makes a full recovery.

Fire Embelm (GBA): The game opens with your character being saved by Lyn, a young girl living on her own on the plains, and she protects in the opening battle. After the battle, she asks for your help in training her and leading her as a tactician in return for protecting you. (I believe the game allows you to pick the sex of your character -- since you can be male as well as female it works).

Any others?

El Viento: Annet vs. supernatural thugs
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: Another Story...gotta save Tuxedo Kamen and other guys from oujt of control youmas.
Popful Mail...female bounty hunter has to save the world

Magic Knight Rayearth
Dark Wizard: Krystal's storyline; she's a general in charge of an army against the DW, Velonese

Maybe I should have added on to my post -- if you give a game, please give a little information on what happens and how it applies. :)

And I have no clue how the original Metroid is suposed to have that happen to it. Or ANY Metroid. Samus IS the main charcter. My examples were more along the lines of a semi-main character saving the ONE main character. :)

Mario is Missing!: Let's face it. Luigi is a woman.

That was in Wild Arms?! What a spoiler. I really wish I hadn't seen that.

OK anyway, if you're thinking of games where the sole playable character is a heroine, they're hard to come by. A lot of titles now feature a male and female leads, but the male still is the main man.

OK, how about Kid in Radical Dreamers? Even though Serge narrates, she really does save your behind more than once.

Secret of Mana: The girl pulls the boy out of a Goblin's dinner pot (if you are lucky to see the scene)...

Oh yeah, on FFIV: Rydia saves Cecil (and the other 3, if they are lucky to be alive) from Golbez's Shadow Dragon.

Wow, I can't believe some people have'nt played Wild Arms yet. The game has been out HOW many years now? :)

Sorry, was'nt done on purpose. I felt like since these were old games, like movies, that the spoiler period was well over with. Besides, the remake is coming out in October, and that will be a better game all around. :P

Edited the original post, and thought of another one to add:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 -- two female charcters can join your party and one of them can save your life during a moment in the game if you chose that option (it's actually kind of hidden, so I don't have any fear in saying that much. ;) )

Well Cybermorph on the JAG has a green woman's head that guides you through the levels. That's assuming the ships pilot is a man.

Totally Rad

I think that was a chick or just a very feminine man.

Rhapsody: The entire game is about a random teenage chick who rescues a prince.

Well, It's a bit of a stretch, but It's the only one I could think of:

Illusion of gaia: Near the beginning of the game, Will is locked in prison, and the princess sends her pet pig Hamlet with a key to help Will escape.

Since she's saving the entire galaxy (and potentially ALL our butts) wouldn't you count the entire Metroid series of games in this discussion?

WEAK, I mean, that's a non-combat role. About as meaningful as having the voice in James Bond's car be female ("so he'll pay attention" LOL )

This may go against the posts intent of not being a main character, but...

Phantasy Star (SMS) - Alis saves Odin from life as a garden gnome.

I haven't played much of it but wouldn't Final Fantasy X-2 be a girl saves the man or something. I haven't really plowed into it yet.

Ummmm... this may be a bit of a stretch, but in Super Mario Bros. 2, in situations where you have to decide between Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool, aren't there situations where the Princess' floating capabilities would save the asses of the rest of the guys? Y'know, since they share the same lives... one character loses a life and everyone somehow does... what's up with that?

I dunno, I got nothing. :P
