Okay, is Xenosaga 2 any good?

It came out recently with little fanfare, and I have to say, I was rather disappointed in the first. I've got nothing against long cutscenes, but, compared to all the stuff that got packed into Xenogears, nothing HAPPENED. It felt, I don't know, watered down. Too much technobabble, not enough Theology on Crack 101. But I've been glancing at Xenogears sites right now, and it forceably reminded me just what a fantastic game that was. I know the battle system's gone to hell, if it's the same as in Ep 1, but is the anything there to make it worthwhile for somebody who loves the 'Gears staples of Biblical mythology, Jungian archetypes, and giant pink puffball crucifiction scenes?

i wasnt too happy with xenosaga 2. i thought one was great but i didnt really feel like pushing through 2. When it comes to battling, 2 rushed you through way to fast to develop your characters, leaving you to be dead meat no even half way through the game, and theres no place to grind to compensate.

Although i thought 1's battle system was a little lacking compared to xenogears it atleast made the characters seem to have their own identity. XS 2 had no identity in the fighting system at all and it felt less immersive. eventually i will try to playing through xenosaga 2 but not this year :(

I've really enjoyed Xenosaga 2 (although I've not yet finished it yet -- too little time and too many games!).

Yes, the game has the same ammount of cut scenes as the first game. The battle system is all new, though, and several other major changes in gameplay were made.

Why don't you rent the game to see if you like it? A few hours should do you well. Or you can look for the game cheap -- I'm sure you can get a used copy for not too much now.

(I'm happy I pre-ordered cause I got the special edition hardcover strategy guide with the soundtrack CD. 8-) )

Personaly, yes, I think it is.

Oh, I forgot the REAL pre-order bonus -- the Xenosaga DVD. You need to know the story for part one to understand what is going on for part two.

Xenogears is my all time favorite game and i still have not played the new ones. IMHO xenogears was a perfect game, and it would have been awesome if SQUARE had made an official sequel/prequel, but it will never happen, so in the mean time ill be happy and stick with xenogears only.

yup, but they are NOT official sequels. its like if star wars episode 1,2 and 3 were made by fox and not lucasarts and changed the name to "star battles" and were not aloud to connect the story to episode 4,5,6 because of copywrite rules.
