Cauterize must have a ton of stuff.
How about Twitami? He probably has the most extensive hardware collection, I dunno where he stands on software.

I didn't get off the ground collection-wise until just before I turned 17 (I've officially been collecting since July 31, 2002). Since then, I've gone from 6 systems to about 83, and from about 75 games to about 700. I don't just go out and buy ridiculous amounts of games every couple weeks when I get paid, though. I'm patient. I wait for deals. I waited just a shade over two years before I found a copy of Suikoden II for the PS1 cheap enough to get me to hit a buy-it-now button on eBay (came with 5 other decent-name PS1 RPGs, was just under $50 after shipping). A good bit of it is complete (I'd say about 60-65%), and I have the scattered few sealed games (Amplitude, Suikoden 3 & 4, and a Japanese Star Ocean 3 for the PS2, and a couple other miscellaneous titles). And also, I have about 85 strategy guides (not counting the 50 or so for sale), most of those 85 being for SNES, PS1, and PS2 RPGs. I noticed some of you weren't exactly mentioning strategy guides...
Oh, and DreamTR...I think I know where I can get a cart-only Obitus, if you'd be interested...

Bojay: Most of my collection for games is boxed. I don't like particularly like loose games for the most parts. I know I have at least 10,000 games, and that might be minus 200-300 maximum.
As for the sealed part, that's a whole other story there. Some collectors want sealed stuff, but I don't care for sealed items because what's the point? I want to play my games, not let them rot away sealed. Sure, I have a TON of sealed new generation stuff, But I would gladly trade it for opened copies and cash equivalent to make up the difference. Complete items I am into more, like most collectors, but I do have some loose stuff for older systems, but it's very small (maybe 1-2% of my collection of 10,000 games is loose).

That's not a pitiful number at all. You've got to start somewhere. I'm sure it's not all that easy to get money to buy games at your age either. I'm only 19, but have about 1,500 games now. Granted, my birthday IS on Sunday though ;)

If one has 150 GREAT games, say the best 150 games ever made... then 150 is awesome!
If one has,, say 10, 000 copies of Duck Hunt , then yes they have 10, 000 games, but bigger is not always better...
the size of the collection does not count as much as how the collection is used.... or played.
I agree as well with sealed vs played...
sealed is great... i know where there are two sealed new copies of radiant silvergun, and panzer dragoon saga... but if they are never opened, or worse yet never played... who really cares about them?
games are called games for a reason....

Sealed games are just cool video-game-based trading cards, effectively. Why all the hate, people? (not you necessarily). Sure, you can't play 'em. But you really can't do anything with a trading card either... take a look at the 'how many games' thread... a lot of people in that thread admit to not playing a large portion of their games. So what's wrong with collecting something useless that you enjoy having? Especially since most people crackin' on sealed have games they never play themselves.. ya dang hypocrites ;) :P

Since I own the GOAT Store, can I count that in my collection? Heh, if I can... then I own about 15,000 games probably.
I don't count that though, although it is nice that a couple times when I've decided to start collection that I could just open a few drawers, pick out 20 or 30 games and have an insto-collection ;) Oddly enough though, I almost always tend not to keep those and there are very few things I've gotten thanks to the GOAT Store that I have kept.

i don't do trading cards.... never saw the interest....
just played mach rider with my 4 year old girl.... she loved it.... that is why i collect... to play them with them... i do have many that i have not played yet... due to lack of time constraints...but during vacations, i do play them... like right now... ( i love bein' a teacher!)
btw that mach rider was a loose cart... better that than an emu any day... anyone can download an emu and a rom and play it but NOTHING beats the real deal...
so, game on all, and open those dand sealed games and play them before you die and someone else either opens it for you and plays it, or worse gives it to thw goodwill where I will buy it, open it ,and play it... WITH my kids

i'd definately be last on the list to be labeled a collector, some systems like snes, nes etc. i prefer loose carts, i play them alot so it's nice to just grab them off the shelf and fire them in,
i've got around 500 games or so that i play regularly, most are just games i've had over the years because i've never sold any, i can't see myself hitting much more than 1000 at most, as i'm a firm believer of quality versus quantity, and i won't waste my money on dust collectors too crappy to garner my attention

I have close to 400 games. Maybe the smallest collection on the site. LOL
On the contrary i most likely have one of the lowest (250-300) but I supose it's not bad for a 14 year old. :)
Yeah it's extremely difficult at such a young age. I'm only 16 and have 230ish games, and even that's taken years to reach.
Meh... its not THAT hard. I'm 19, only been collecting for a year, and I've got 1100. If anything, I think its easier. No rent, no buying food, no buying clothes. All my income goes to video games.
I started collecting when I was 14, starting with my PSX and 5 games, and as of now, at age 21, I have 522 Unique games, with 296 game sin my trade box
I had over 700 in my collection, but to get some cash and to free up some space, I started to weed out the games in my collection that didnt stand up to my standards for that particular system for completeness, etc.
I barely have a hundred in my room of doom :eek 2:
I'm suprised; I thought I'd be a total loser on this forum just because I'm younger and have less than 2000 games. It's good to know that I'm not alone. (even though I could never match some of your guy's collections :)) After all, It's not only the games that count; you seem to be forgeting all the other great promotional items, books, handhelds, etc. that maybe be hidden away in your closet...

Another question is who's collection has the highest monetary value.
I'm quite certain that nod would go to ASSEMbler, at least if we're limiting this to people I've ever heard of. He's also the only person I know of who's collection includes actual rights to games and that sort of thing. He sort of takes it to another level.
Twitami might be on that list as well though, as he owns some near-priceless hardware.

Just doing a quick tally of my list nets me about 1025 games. Probably closer to 1000 though as I think some are demo disks, bootlegs etc.
A good number. I don't think I really want to get too much more than that. There is already a ton I haven't played and some that I'm fairly certain that I won't ever play. Once I get around to weeding out the chaff (doubles, and other stuff I don't want), that should bring the numbers down enough so that I probably won't ever get over 2000.
As for all this back and forth about sealed/complete/loose games...
the thread title is who has the LARGEST collection. I think that says it all. Now if it were a question of value, sealed games would certainly have an edge. Many of you seem to be debating about who has the BEST collection, which would be another can of worms entirely.

Yeah, it's not too hard, I'm 13 and since I started collecting last Feb. I've went from about 50 to 300 games. Of couse I don't care if it's complete or not(even though it always helps). About 1/3 of my collection are SNES games from Game Stop though.
Younger people getting games can be rather difficult. I know when i was you guys age(like 5 year ago or less) i was mroe concerned with getting good games and games i knew i would play. I didn't (and still don't really) care so much about the amount just the play value and fun factor. I could go buy up all the cheapo sports games i don't own and easily pad my collection with another few hundred games for probably half as much money. But thats just not impressive IMO.
I am closing in on the 500 mark.
I have averaged 100ish games a year. But averages don't amount to much lol. Some years 200 games some years nearly none.
BTW to all the people with massive amounts of complete system collections THAT is wicked cool.
I want to do that but i just can't bring myself to focus much on any one system. I will end up just completing some of the smaller system libraries over the next few years while i gradualy pick up titles.

ive got close to 4000 games crammed into a room thats 10 x 12, so doubling that into 1000 sq ft? i can see how that might work. youd have lots more wall space, as you could put shelves on interior walls too, whereas i can only shelve the outer walls, then have some roll away racks in the middle. the goal was to reach 4000 games by the end of the year and 40 systems. the 40th systm was atari jaguar cd, but ive yet to count the games(theyre all on excel lists, so its easy to count them). i was at 3760 sometime in august, and have gone wild on psx games since then, so may be there already...not the biggest, but a fair showing nonetheless.

Not to be a jerk about this, but I find it hard to believe that someone who owns 10K games has time to or interest in playing even a small percentage of that total. I can understand why someone might be critical of the fact that I keep a lot of what I own sealed, but I open what I have an actual interest in playing. I don't think there are more than a few hundred really good games across all US platforms and generations. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I'd rather have sealed copies of crap/filler games because they have more historical value to me than actual play value. Again, I can see the other side of it, but I like the packaging and everything that surrounds the video game industry almost as much as the games themselves.

Bojay: It's literally impossible to sit down and play 10,000 games. My reasoning for collecting is because I have been onto video games albeit obessively since 1980. I was an arcade player for many years competitively, and always played games whether it was through my job or leisure. I do not see a point of a sealed version of the same game because you are basically paying for plastic wrap at this point. I still do check out my games, and play them...I was never a collector based on value, if it exists for a system I want, then I would rather have it opened so I can enjoy it, peruse the manual, thoroughly enjoy the history. These items were meant to be played....

I can't recall where I'm at, but most likely approaching 400 games is reasonable. I only purchase a few games a week at best, and usually do it for playing, and some collecting. For the collecting purpose I try to get complete games in the best of conditions. If later down the road I find a game in better shape, I buy it and sell my old copy.

Just hit 690; 98% of which are complete.. spread out over all the "major" 8-bit and up systems. I just recently branched off into handhelds.. and have started to collect less games; and more memorabilia. I've gotten into Gashapon & anime recently as well. I have about 70 consoles.. but not that many "unique" sytems; as when I start a console collection.. I HAVE to have every version of that console as well (i.e. 3 models of Genny; 3 models of 3DO by different manufacturers.. etc.).
I won't get into the "completeness" issue again as it's been debated ad nauseum here, I simply say it's a matter of personal taste (I prefer complete games); but to me.. a hundred games is a hundred games, loose OR complete. Personally though.. I'd be more impressed with somebody who had 500 complete games as opposed to 2,000 loose ones.. but that's just MHO.

I was thinking of this thread earlier today... Has Adol posted in here yet? Wouldn't he have on of the biggest collections here. That guys crazy.
Well,i don't look for having AS MUCH games AS possible, because for me it is harder & more valuable to get 1 title complete or even better, factory sealed, than getting 10 loose games...Getting 1 Factory Sealed Zelda 1 NES (original release) is worth 100 loose zelda carts...then i don't look for getting 50000 duck hunt carts,i'm looking for valuable games, and complete&mint collections, with box,insturctions,everything...
I have posted yet all that i have ( especially all the hardware part ),such as complete factory sealed jaguar&lynx collections, complete dreamcast japanese collection ( 600 games,80% of them factory sealed )
Just as an example, check my collection here,i added some pics:

I have around 4000 UNIQUE games give or take 100, my IGN page is only up to date on the current gen systems though sadly.
I would have more games but I have this personality quirk that doesnt allow me to buy used games.
So EVERY gameI own was bought factory sealed with the exception of wizardry (ps2), batman returns (snes- when I was a little kid), and tactics ogre (ps one)
Batman was before I got really picky about games, and wizardry and tactics ogre were impossible to find sealed and I wanted a completed current gen rpg collection so I gave in and bought em used.
I know I dont have the largest collection by any means but I probably have ONE of the largest ALL NEW collection.

As big as some of the collections here are on DP, "videogames" shows off the biggest collection. No one else captures a image for everyone to see that makes you feel so small and insignificant. The room actually is a basement of a house- and yes there is something in every corner. The main room itself is L shaped and is about 20' x 15' with shelving on every wall.
There are a few others that have collections of this size- dreamtr, adol, joe, mike mika, and a few others, but like I said- no one has shown off so many games in 1 pic
Come on dreamtr or adol( or anyone else over 10k)- take a similar pic for all us admirers who long to reach the crazy level of collecting that you have. We love to see this kind of stuff!! it is inspiring for the rest of us who will never reach 10k

in another thought-
wouldn't it be cool to see discovery channel, or life channel do one of those "Weird Homes" shows or a show about obsessive collectors and actually do the show on videogame collectors around the world. I'd be glued to the tube!
it would be really interesting to know who in the world has the largest collection and the story behind it.

I am 15, and I don't buy games often, but I have about 120. A totally pitiful number, but I am happy with it! No MS or Sony stuff, I hate them.
A wise choice my friend. If you're going to chose a company to stick with, Nintendo is the way to go.
ROFL
What is so funny? I dislike (well, more than dislike) MS for what they did to Apple (long story, don't ask) and Sony beat Nintendo to the US market (Which I don't like). Besides, the only good PlayStation games that would even mildly hold my intrest are the RPGs for that system.

I'd be willing to bet the person with the largest collection in the world, or even the united states for that matter doesnt even go to digitpress.
I remember reading something about that young rapper lil bow wow (just bow wow now I guess) who had a complete ps2 collection back when it had like 300 games total for it.
I am sure there are celebrities or musicians or someone out there that just blow their millions on every single game that is released AS they are released. I wouldnt be surprised if there is someone out there that has 20-25 thousand games.
I mean really all it would take is
1. A huge place to store them
2. Net worth greater than 1 million dollars
3. Enjoys videogames
I mean look at that "kid" from malcolm in the middle
he has been collecting CARS since like age 16 and has a few just from his millions he made on his crappy TV show.
If he were into videogames like he was cars he'd prolly crush us all in videogame collections.

I have a lot of games that I would consider "quality" as well if you count prototypes..I have around 50 unreleased SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, and NES games...that to me is a pretty high standard of quality along with the complete collections I have of most systems that total up to around 10,000 different titles....
EDIT, It's more like 13,000 games now... =)

As for "serious collectors," don't be dismayed by the incredible numbers put up by the true collecting legends in this thread. I'd consider 2500 games, including some gems, enough to rank you as a top collector. 1000 can be quite nice, but I've bought out videostores and been 1000 games up for under 1000 bucks...
well I wouldn't say that just because you've bought out video stores to pad your collection by 1000 games for less than 1000 bucks means that someone who spent years buying 1000 games for full price isn't a top collector... on the contrary, I would say that 1000 old rentals from a video store are worth about as much as 1000 turds on your front lawn... not impressive at all, no matter how many video stores you bought out to reach your higher numbers
I still only own about 1500 games so far, but every single one of them was bought factory sealed for full price... now how is that less impressive than 1500 old rentals from a video store? sure, anyone with 1500 bucks to spend could buy 1500 used games for a buck a piece and say that they have 1500 games in their collection, but try spending $50 apiece on 1500 factory sealed games and then tell me that your $75,000 investment doesn't make you a top collector... even if you opened them all like I did, they're still worth more than 1500 old rentals from a video store that let 75,000 people play them all!

Iron Draggon, I'm not sure I'd want to tell anyone I bought everything brand new for $50 at the store. That's almost ludicrous in this day and age because if you planned on opening/playing them anyway, you might as well have bought them online or elsewhere with all the cheaper deals there are these days...that's almost wasteful because if you call your $75,000 an "investment", you'll never get your money back on them...
I understand wanting to play games when they come out and stuff, but if I ever go to the store and buy things, it's cheaper, $19.99 and under new games that have way less of a chance to hit rock bottom in value...

6,000 plus unique console games here. Definately not the largest by far. On a very limited budget now raising a family, I think I have done okay. Almost my entire collection has been in the wild, not off of ebay.
I definately did not by many of my games at full price lol

My collection is at almost 1,000 so it is quite small in comparison to many people here. Still, it is growing and I've started (mostly) collecting only games that I intend to play.

its not huge but im pretty proud of it and it is growing quickly. I have to admit that collections that have all the different systems are cool but I have my sights set a bit more exact. I am going for all things Nintendo starting with NES. Check it out in my sig.

This is the second thread like this.
Somebody said something 2 years ago about that guy named videogames, but Joe used to have pics of his basement posted (no clue if those pics are still around) and he has 30,000+
Me, I just hit 1000 according to IGN, so it is back to going for some deals and mini-collections.
I say if you find a collection not available on eBay, it is quite impressive.
Something that eBay doesn't have is always cool to look at.

SegaAges: That thread from two years ago is this same thread. Someone just bumped it.
I think the 30,000 games Joe has are just in the basement of his store inventory. I think his home collection is completely different and might be about half of that but at that point, what do you count as part of your collection and part of a business? That's where it gets weird because GameStop owns more games than anyone, obviously, but think of this as well, if you add up complete collections of every single system released in the USA for console systems (not PC) then it's pretty difficult to come up with more than 15,000 different games.
Obviously Joe is the only one that knows how many games he has, but I was under the impression he had around 30,000+ at/for his business, and 15,000+ at home.

Oops, looks like that was me ^^; pretty embarrassing, sorry guys.
Meh... its not THAT hard. I'm 19, only been collecting for a year, and I've got 1100. If anything, I think its easier. No rent, no buying food, no buying clothes. All my income goes to video games.
Can you have a job at 14? And having a job at 16 isn't the most common thing around :P

Well, I'm pretty strict on what I would classify as a "game". For example, I would really consider Frog Bog to be more of a frog-type simulator. Other examples include Burgertime, a food tutorial; Super Mario Bros., a running and jumping exercise; Dragonfire, a duck and cover drill; and Halo 2, a checkbook and budget utility. So technically I've only got about three games.

Very true. I collect new games for modern systems as well, but with very few exceptions, just about every game hits $20 and often $15 or even $10 within a year or so of release. I can't see spending $50-$60 for new games anymore unless it's something I absolutely know won't be around in a year or I have to play immediately which works out to maybe 2-3 games every year.

I guess this was a couple of years ago...but DreamTR did you ever complete those collections you had only a couple of games left to go on? And ever take any pics of your collection?
