"Microsoft's J Allard has said that the Xbox 360 will be released in differing versions over the next five years. "It's something we're not ready to announce yet," he said. "I don't think it's a one-size-fits-all [approach] over the next five-year horizon." Relatedly JamesO writes "Microsoft is saying that anywhere up to 40 games could be released for the Xbox 360 during its launch period, but which of those will make or break the console's launch? Pro-G choose their ten most important Xbox 360 launch games. Not the ten best launch games, but the most important for the success of the Xbox 360."

Thats what I like to hear about a soon-to-be-released console. When I buy something, I want to have a good selection of games to go with it, this further eggs me on to get a 360. However, like the article says, it is how important those games are. They seem to be relying on alot of Sequels. I wonder how that will help/hurt them.

How could Quake 4 not be on the list of aniticipated games? Did it get pushed back or something...?
Microsoft has been sticking to the multiple cersions theme since E3. I don't think it'll matter to those of us who buy the original. There is plenty of expansion opportunities, and the original hardware is traditionally superior to what comes after (excluding certain CD read errors).

Is it just me, or are "Ridge Racer" games only released at launch? It was a DS launch game, I'm pretty sure it was a PS2 launch game, it looks to be an Xbox 360 launch title...
(I'm not a fan of the series at all and they're always there when you have limited selection it seems).

ridge racer was also a launch title on PSP
I wonder what they mean by different versions of the system.
HD sizes, Colors, Size
what the hell do they mean exactly.

I'm sure they mean different HD sizes, and colors and etc. for 360 variations. Of course there's the HD-DVD variation. Microsoft has also suggestedother, as yet, undisclosed options. I would not be surprised to see a DVR (PVR) option, or even a DVD-recorder. There might even be an upconvert option for DVD's. Whay not allow it to stream media from your PC? playback MP3's...oops, I mean .wma's amd .wmv's? They are going to diversify the hardware to appeal to as many demographics as they can get their hands on. They learned from their bad marketing to the Japanese in theis generation.

I bet you they'll have a version that has a High Def Tivo built into it, maybe even function like a cable or satellite HDTV box as well. You could start paying Microsoft for your bill instead of Direct TV or Comcast.

I don't get the bullet points on the top 10 launch games; "Hundereds of Characters on the screen at once" ... "The explosions look brilliant" ... "The smoke looks stunning"...
I miss "secret powerups, and hidden bonus points!"
I'll probably wait until teh h4x0rZ mod the 360 and see what else you can do with it before I consider getting it, as none of the games really interest me.

This is an impressive lineup.
A good variety of titles is as important as great titles for launch.
For gamers who like traditional RPGs, more "modern" RPgs, fighting, FPSs, football, and racing, MS has it pretty much covered this time.
The games I look forward to are Kameo and Project Gotham Racing.
