View Full Version : Weird Dreamcast problem

Anyone heard of this?
I have a Dreamcast that won't start a game from the GUI - in other words, start the Dreamcast without a disc in, then put a disc in after the GUI is loaded. A normal Dreamcast will say "checking game disc" and then load the game. This particular Dreamcast says that, but then goes back to the GUI.
If I start up the Dreamcast with the game disc in, the game loads fine.
Before you say, just live with it, I'm going to sell this on Ebay or here, and I'd like to be able to say it's in perfect condition...
Thanks!

After you insert the disc, if you select "Play" from the menu, does the game start?
If so, it's most likely a settings problem. Check that the "Auto Start" option under the "Settings" menu is set to "ON". The behavior you described is, I believe, how a DC acts when "Auto Start" is disabled.
Good luck.

Good luck. No, If I select Play, it tries to load, but then goes back to the GUI.

Does this happen with all discs, or just certain ones? Are you using CD-Rs at all when this happens?

This actually sounds more like the resetting problem more than anything. I constantly put games in and get it reload the GUI after the black screen. Even did it with a brand new game once!
But, unfortunately, I can't help as I have my own DC problems to worry about at the moment (Resetting like a bitch!) and am yet to find a good enough solution to fixing it

Hmmm... apparently it was the auto start settings. Thanks guys!

So, what on earth did you have the auto-start settings set on for it to act weired like this?

Try reseating the power supply, two of my DC's started doing that (resetting at bootup, resetting in the middle of a game, resetting over and over - like NES blinking LOL ). I opened them up, took the power supply out, make sure the connections to the mainboard were clean, resat the power supply, no more problems.
