Wow...this is sad news....I'm just in total disbelief. It really hits home when I can remember recent posts of things he's bought, stuff he's been doing and then all of the sudden he's just gone. RIP, and my prayers go out to his family.

It's funny the way online communities work. Even though you're only reading words on a screen with a little picture to your left, you really feel a connection to the person.

Agreed. Rest in peace, man.

RIP Bargora :(

As so many have said already, it seems like Bargora was always here, and suddenly he is always gone.

He could always be counted on for a witty or an insightful comment - often both at the same time! Condolences to his family and friends.

Since the actual donation section of the zoo website is properly impossible to find, I will re-post the direct link to the donation section here:

Maybe we could have an annual shmup day or something like that on the boards in honor of Bargora. Hed probably dig that.

Seconded!

Or perhaps we could name on of the shmup trophies in the Arcade named as the Bargora Trophy?

Better yet, in the trophy buying section of the dp forums shop, a bargora trophy could be made and available for purchase for forum members. Kinda like holding a candle eh?

I can't believe this.

Alan was the funniest, smartest person I ever meet. I went to the same college as him. We actually lived in the same dorm. When I heard he was going back to graduate school at case I thought he would find the cure for cancer or something. Although we lived in the same city we never hung out and I wish we had. I was looking forward to seeing him in the near future. One of the best. RIP friend.

I lost a family member last week, and at the service the preacher said someting that helped me a lot. "It is ok to feel sad about losing a loved one, but do not feel sad for them beacuse they are in a better place." It made me feel ok about my loss and also feel a litte better for my family member knowing they no longer had to deal with their sickness or pain.

I did not personaly know bargora, but I did know him on these boards. Bargora although I never met you in this life, I hope to meet you on the otherside. I am not a shump fan, but I will play a couple this weekend.

This is definitely bad news :(

But something that has always helped me with death is knowing that everything happens for a reason. Our Higher Power doesn't cause death, but may allow it for specific reasons unbeknownst to us, which may result in a beneficial outcome for all (even his family). It's hard to understand or see this now, but I'm sure there is a reason.

In memory of Bargora, I will attempt to beat Gradius V this week (I am definitely a SCHMUP fan ^_^). My best wishes to Brian's family :(

I found out about this via phone last night... it's so sad.

I never got to meet Brian, he was one of those guys who I pictured always bringing a smile and "gamer attitude" with him to the forums. I'm sorry that I'll never get to meet him.

My thoughts are with his family, as with his extended family here. He'll never be forgotten.

After an evening of gaming, downfall called to give me the sad news after getting home.

I like many of the others didn't get a chance to meet Brian but I distinctly remember many of his conversations on the forums. It suddenly hits you pretty hard when someone your own age has such an abrupt and unexpected death. I do wish his wife and family the very best during this time.

Yo! Bargora! Is you or isn't you gonna try taking my trophy at Asteroids in the DP Arcade?! I'm going nuts here! :fist: "
Meseta: 19739! So much left to spend and collect! So many games left to play!
Roundtable Arcade Game Time: 24 Mins. & 51 Secs.
Final Post: Mon Sep 19, 2005 10:18 pm In the 'will you buy a gameboy micro' discussion. Here Bargora goes on to talk about his future plans to get a GB micro and maybe a Rev, GBA SP, and possibly XB 360. He also talked about his current finacial hardships, paying off his cred carp and said "I'm approaching the light at the end of the tunnel". God why. If only he knew haw litteraly he was really talking.

Sept 17, 2002, he first joined. Mon Sep 19, 2005, almost exactly just three years latter, he makes his last post and checks out of the DP Retrogammer Roundtable business.

If only we knew that this was soon to come. How much we may have done diffrently. So much left to live for. Such a well known and valued member. God why did this have to happen. If we really did know that this was coming, think how much stuff some of us would have tried to do diffrently. Tried to get to know him more. Talk with him a bit. Possibly try to meet him in real life. Well no, now it is to late. Why.

We will all miss Bargora. He surely will live on in the Roundtable in many of our hearts, and in our memories. Our prayers are with all of his family and friends and others with relations to him. Sorry this had to happen to all of you, Bargora's friends and family. If you ever see this, please try to stay strong, we care about you and our prayers will be with you.

I DO know the context of it, and it had nothing to do with suicide. It was just another typical sample of his great sense of humor, and I'm quite certain that it's nothing more than unfortunate coincidence. Let's please keep further speculation about this out of THIS thread. Thank you.

I have to admit, I never talked to Brian, and in fact don't recall any specific Bargora posts, most likely because I tend not to have a lot of time to read & respond in these forums (and DP is just about the only one I keep up on anymore anyway). I am not as full a member of these forums as many of you are, and hence, I am sure that I will not miss Brian the way some of you are.

However, news like this always hits me in the heart, if in a general way rather than specific, and I am forever reminded of John Dunne's "Devotions", "MEDITATION XVII" in particular. For those of you not familiar with it, here it is:

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Replace "Europe" with "the internet" or "the world" and it's a spot-on sentiment to how I feel right now.

Rest in peace, Brian.
