Done it once so far it was when i was switching from, AES to MVS on the NeoGeo setup.

While i was selling... the AES systems plus games i was buying MVS carts at the same time.

By the time i was done i didn't have the CMVS untile a month had gone by.

I remember the waiting part having all these carts and no system to 'try them out.

The day the, CMVS got here i was very excited like some kid getting a xmas present.

I bought Shape Shifter while waiting for the Turbo Duo to be released and my friend who didn't even own a Turbo CD like I did, bought Dragon Slayer because of the cool art and the fact that it was an RPG.

It was cool to see Dragon Slayer's System 3.0 warning screen. Too bad Shape Shifter's is just plain white text on a black screen.

Once I got my Duo, we got to play both and were very happy with the new format.

Soon after I sold him my Turbo CD and he mail ordered the System 3.0 card.

Wow, I think I'm one of the worst when it comes to this. I have a whopping 41 Xbox games, and no Xbox. Only about 14 of them are backwards compatible on my 360, which is currently broken now, anyway. :/

At first I picked up new games for it here and there because I'd find new console-exclusives that I was interested in for less than $5 or so. Then when I got my 360 I continued buying Xbox games in hope that they'd be added to the backwards compatible list. Now I continue to buy used and new Xbox games because since the console's more or less dead, I'd rather find the games I want for it now, rather than later before the games start drying up and become harder to find.

I also have 12 PSP games and no PSP to play them on.. I'm pretty certain I'll get either an Xbox or PSP later this year, but I'm definitely waiting to see if the rumors about a redesigned PSP come to anything.

I think I got my first X360 game about a month before the system, since I knew when I got the system I wouldn't be able to afford a game with it. ^^;;

Got myself a couple wonderswan games in December because I knew I was getting one for Xmas. Same with my GBA a few years before. There's nothing worse than getting a system as a gift and having nothing to play for it (and all the stores are closed).

Right now I have a handful of Game Gear games and a non-functioning GG.

All the time!

It is inevitable that I will get what ever system comes out, so it is a no-brainer that when I see games for a system (regardless of whether or not I currently own that system) on sale or on clearance, I buy them.

About 5 years ago some guy tried to trade in Panzer Dragoon Zweii at Gamestop (we'd long stopped taking in Saturn games) so I offered the guy $5 for it and he sold it to me. I probably didn't pick up a Saturn system until 2 years after that. It remained my only game for the system until about 6 months ago. I never seem to be able to find good looking Saturn games for sale.

I've bought a bunch of NES games before the system. Actually, if you call the top-loader second rate, you could say that I still don't have a proper system.

When I first started collecting retro games, I bought a box of 13 Atari Jaguar games. That box sat in my closet for a year and a half before I found a Jaguar in the wild.

If you count buying Xbox games before having an original Xbox, but being able to play them on a 360, yes!

Damn, you guys are now gonna make me do this. I'm a impulse buyer.:monkey:

I bought VIRTUA FIGHTER in a Wal-Mart bin in 1997 or so for $0.99. I bought it more for my love for the series than anything else, but did plan on eventually getting a system. Here I am now, ten years later, just finally getting my first 32X.

To a lesser degree, I bought a lot of Sega CD games a couple months ago, and only now bit the bullet and bought a boxed unit. Still, I really don't have much interest playing them, but those blue cases sure look pretty. :D

As of now I am holding 2600, Xbox and PSP games with nothing to play them on. Plus controllers, cables and what nots for those and a few other systems I don't have. While I plan on owning a xbox and PSP in the future I'm fine with my flashback 2 and atari/activision compilations for Atari stuff. I could do a cart slot mod on the flashback but it's not something I'm wanting to do at this point.

I now have two Emerson Arcadia 2001 carts without a console to play them on, and a Commodore Plus/4 cartridge without a label and no computer to try it out with. I still haven't found a Fairchild Channel F to play my Bowling cartridge on, or a working Game.com to play the couple games I have for it.

Um...all the time. I had PS2, Gamecube, N64, CD-I, Saturn, Dreamcast and Snes games long before I ever had the systems to play them on. It's called early preperation.

Many times. Almost a par for the course thing for me. I tend to get systems long after they have dropped in price.

I picked up Daytona USA for the Saturn before the system was even released. Listened to the music tracks in anticipation. It was a 3 month wait after launch, as I had to save up for it. Money well spent. I still love my Saturn to death.

I also had Halo 2 and Panzer Dragoon Orta before I got an XBox. I was between jobs, working part time at a Funcoland, so I couldn't afford it. It was a tough wait; almost a year. I had gotten a job way before a year had passed, but I was still tight financially. It didn't help that I also bought a launch PSP to congratulate myself for my new job. ;) (Had the import of Lumines before I got that one too actually). It was truly glorious when I finally got to play. PD Orta was especially worth the wait. That one still looks like a 360 game to my eyes.

Finally, I had Halo 3 for a couple months before I got a 360. I had also picked up Ridge Racer 6 (I'm a HUGE RR fan) and Wartech: Senko no Ronde (meh) by the time I got one. My wife ended up getting me an Elite for my wedding gift. I was totally flabbergasted. She is the best! She was originally going to get me an Asteroids machine, but I found out and put the kibosh on it (we don't have a place to put it), that and she couldn't find one at the time. She also got me that Fossil Asteroids watch, but I am really digressing now.

I remember I won a bloodrayne video game from tips n' tricks for the gamecube way before I ever owned the system. Some kind of caption this picture contest, it was a pic of bloodrayne sucking the life outta some zombie and I wrote something like "Get off me bitch your crushin' my smokes"

Anyway's I was still playing N64 at the time and had to look at that Bloodrayne game about a year before I actually got the cube for a X-mas present to play it on...

Due to ebay "lots", this has happened to me quite a bit. I owned SNES games for over a year before I ever got a console to play them on. This has happened with the Game Gear, Jaguar, PSOne, 5200, and 7800 going back over the last 10 years or so.

I have GTA 4 without a 360. ( a buddy let me borrow the system though )
I got some Atari Jaguar AV cable and controller long before I had a system.
Now I have some TG-16 stuff as in a controller, rf, power, and mulitap. All I need is a system and Bomberman.

My memory of this is one of my fondest memories in all of my gaming. Back in the day before one of my birthdays, my mom let me pick out an Atari 2600 before getting the system on my birthday. I immediately picked out Kaboom (loved the box art) and couldn't wait to play it. So I talked her into letting me take it to friends house who had an Atari. We played it for hours on end day after day. I couldn't wait for my birthday to get the system so I could play it in my on house. It is obviously one of my favorite games to this day. And my favorite Atari game hands down.

I make a point of never buying games that I can't actually play- whether it's due to not having the console or having the wrong region console (my Shining series collection has a few annoying gaps as a result of this rule). That said, I did pick up a SNES import adaptor about 2 weeks before picking up the SNES... but that isn't a game, is it? ;)

I can still remember this clearly: back in 1991 when the SNES was a very new console in the US, I'd received two Genesis games as gifts. I knew that I would be getting the SNES for Christmas that year, and returned the two sealed Genesis games to the store to get an early start on my SNES collection. I chose Actraiser and Super R-Type. It was torture having to wait til Christmas to play them, but I sure had the instruction booklets memorized by the time I finally did!

Recently, I bought 3 PSP games at Target because they were on clearance despite not being a PSP owner at the time. Couldn't pass them up.

In my teens, I had an HUGE TG16 collection that I foolishly sold. I'd like to get a Duo...but current prices on the system alone are outrageous on Ebay. I've seen auctions go easily into the $300's. Fuck that.

I chose to simply emulate the HU-Card games on my laptop (via Magic Engine), and I am buying ACTUAL TG-16/PCEngine CD games off Ebay and elsewhere.

I've had several of these.

One of the most memorable was when I received my 8th grade graduation gift... Super Mario All Stars for SNES. I was ecstatic yet sad, because I could not play the game. I only had other systems except that one. Every day after that, I would read the manual over and over again, memorizing nearly everything. I remember seeing a few commercials for it and REALLY *liking* a blond plumber girl I kept seeing. She was nice... :)

In any case, a few years after I managed to finally play the game. When I did, a rush of memories came about which brought in a deep, nostalgic feeling.

I will never forget those precious moments...

I think the only system that I currently have a game for that I don't own is Doom for the 32X. However, at various points I've had games for the 5200, XBox, Mac, CD-i, Saturn, and NGPC when I didn't own the system. I now own most of those systems and no longer have the games for the 5200 or Mac.

Same here. Since I work in hell...err...Sears, they sometimes liquidate games for $5 or less. I have purchased around 10 or so for that price.

And with the hope-to-be-soon reduction, I may consider picking up the system. ONLY if they manage to fix the RROD.

I do it with used games all the time, I do plan on buying the systems...eventually, whenever I can FIND one. I would love a 32X but the only place that has one in my city sells it for $36. There is no way I'm paying $36 plus tax for a 32x.

I've only done it once with a NEW game. I bought PGR for the xbox about a week before I got an xbox. Luckily my friend had a Xbox so I played it at his place till I got one.

Within the past month or so I bought ToeJam & Earl III for Xbox, but don't actually own the system - I do have a 360, but this is one of the original Xbox games that's *not* backwards-compatible (and yes, I knew that when I bought it). I was just such a huge fan of the series, the first game in particular, that I couldn't pass it up. Eventually I'll get around to getting something to play it on.

When I was just getting into gaming at a young age, me and my brother split the cost of buying wcw/nwo revenge for n64, we had no n64. It was a hint for our parents what we wanted for Christmas haha. It worked

This summer I bought killer instinct on snes and do not have a snes yet. I liked killer instinct on gb, it was my first game ever, so had to pick this up when I saw it at a thrift store for like $1.50

I bought quite a few 2600 games before I got the system. I wasn't even planning to get an Atari at the time, they just seemed so collectible. Got Pitfall and Adventure complete in box for 2 $ each and a couple of xonox double enders for 1 $ each. Later found out out they were fairly rare. That catalysed my fondness for Atari and prompted me to get a system.

Only once. Years ago I found a copy of Sonic Chaos at a garage sale. Of course, being a big Sonic fan, I had to have it. I managed to convince my mom to buy it for me, even though I didn't own a Game Gear. Eventually I did get the system for one of my birthdays.

I also got a copy of super mario bros. 2 (oh sorry, I mean SMB Advance) when it came out for the GBA...which I promptly lost...before buying a GBA 2 months later... well, I got Golden sun with it and that was way better, so I gues I can forgive this occurence. maybe.
