i was EXTREMELY lucky to acquire this asteroids cocktail at the beginning of october:

it was a weird situation where this woman had the machine in her basement for years, but had no real attachment to it. i think someone had given it to her originally, she wasn't like a collector or gamer by any stretch of the imagination. my friend heard about it and knew i'd be interested. i was under the impression that she was actually selling it for a very cheap price but when we got there she was just happy that we were hauling it out of her basement for her. unbelievable. i've posted about it on here a couple times. basically it plays great, but the screen playing area is a little squashed. cosmetically it's really nice overall and all complete and original.

sunday i picked this guy up in southern mass:

it's missing the coin door and t molding but it plays great. needs a cleaning. i was happy to find a vertically oriented jamma cab since i already have a horizontal one. the game itslef is pretty cool too. i had never heard of it but it is a 2 player simultaneous shooter. gets really frantic, a quality i look for in shooters. the cabinet is not much to look at, no side art even, but like i said, it works. and it was under a hundred bucks so it's hard to go wrong at that price.

i REALLY need to finish the flooring in the basement now , my dining room is getting a little cramped. i have to give my wife credit though, she isn't complaining. we use the games more than we ever used the dining room anyway, haha.

That Omega Fighter started up in Northern MA a few months ago. I tried to get the seller to part out the game board for me since I wanted it, but not the JAMMA cab. He declined. The person you bought it from picked it up hoping to make some profit on it. It sounds like he didn't - good work!

I had no idea there was even more (relatively) local arcade hunting competition floating around. I'd better watch out for you ;)

Nice score! Clean 'er up a bit and hit up http://www.t-molding.com for some new t-molding and you're good to go! What was the cab originally? Looks like an old Atari cab, coin doors for those are pretty easy to find.

i'm no competition for anyone. i'm too cheap to care about 99.999% of anything out there and i'm done buying cabs anyway. three is enough for me. i don't know what was in the cabinet originally. i only gave it a cursory once over and didn't find any previous manufacturer markings that would give it away.

Yeah, I suspect that was a Kangaroo or Dig Dug in a previous life.

Ah, if I had a nickel for every time I've heard that one. ;) You've got the bug, you'll buy another cab eventually, despite all plans not to. That's just how it works. :D

nah, no more cabs for me (unless they are freebies). maybe when the game room is finished i'll feel differently but i'm content for now. pcbs are cheaper and take up less room anyway.

a pinball machine is definitely in my future though. i would've had one already but i have a couple other expensive/time consuming hobbies (record collection, restoring old cars, etc).
