View Full Version : DDR Mario Mix: Discontinued?

There is apparently a rumor going around that Nintendo has discontinued DDR Mario Mix due to issues with the dance pad that comes with it.
http://www.pressthebuttons.com/2005/12/dance_dance_dis.html
I was looking forward to this one, but I personally haven't seen one in stores since the week it launched.

Why wouldn't they just fix whatever was wrong with the pad instead of abandoning a game they spent months creating and hyping up? Doesn't make any sense to me. Were the sales that poor and they figured it wasn't worth it?
Don't know if I believe this.

Shit, maybe it is true then. Was just at Gamerush yesterday and saw a couple new bundles for sale there. Gotta go back now and pick one up before these things are impossible to find.

Hoping this is just in need of a reprint. I'd like to pick this up eventually, but not badly enough to pay a premium for it.
I've got all of the DDRs for the PS2 and Xbox, which is plenty of dancing for me for now.

Just scored 2 of these at Blockbuster (one to sell on Ebay, one to keep). Only $40 each with the sale they've got on new games going on right now too. Looks like most stores don't carry them anymore, but the 2 BB's I've called have plenty of them.

I saw this game just yesterday. I really had no interest in DDR, so I never even gave it a second look. I better go see if its still there. I wonder if this will turn out like the RE shortages though?

I just checked ebay out and they are going nuts, definately a "hot toy". I know some of you frown on buying retail and then trying to sell on ebay for a profit but I could really use some XMAS cash. I am going to go try and track some down to sell, I just called a few places but no luck. The search continues.....

I don't frown on that. Make what you can, man.
Although, when I do find stuff, I usually offer them for better deals here first like I did with those Nintendogs bundles I just recently sold ;)
As for the game being discontinued and not listed on sites like EBgames, when EB doesn't have items in stock, they just aren't listed on the site anymore. So if they sell out, they are out of the active database. Look up Paper Mario to see what I'm talking about. They definitely carry it for the N64 -- hell, I just ordered a copy today -- but you can't find it in their database... I snagged the last copy.
It probably has some production issues with the dance mats -- like the third party that was supplying them went belly-up or demanded more money for them or something. When - and I'm sure it will be - when that is taken care of, I would expect they'll be back out in force.
How much was this package regularly by the way? I was really interested in it and had seen it, but never bit and bought one yet. If it is a decent price, maybe I should...

If it's because of the pad that Mario Mix has been discontinued, what did Nintendo expect? It's a flimsy soft pad. Anyone that's played DDR on one of these pads knows that they only last a couple months at most with regular use.
I agree with goatdan though. I bet whatever problems with this game will be fixed and re-stocked at stores soon.
EDIT: looks like prices are starting to dip a bit on Ebay. Most that were listed within the past couple days are now BIN'ing around $90-$100 (as opposed to $120). Now that word is out, looks like people are running around like apeshit trying to pick these bundles up. Still a nice little profit though.

I'm one of the weirdos that likes it more with the pad than with the hard ones.
Besides, it was just economical for Nintendo to do it that way. Hard pads cost a lot to make and ship. It would've made a $50.00 package (thanks BTW, I'll be lookin' tonight!) into a $100+ one.

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,
I have heard the rumors and, while it is true that Dance Dance
Revolution: Mario Mix is no longer being shipped to our retailers, the exact
reasons why are, at present, unknown. However, it's very possible that
some retailers may still have stock available.
If you need help finding stores that may what you're looking for, head
to our web site at www.nintendo.com. Enter the "Customer Service" area
(which is located at the bottom of our main page), and then the "Where
to Buy" section. Select the appropriate category, and you'll find
information on Retail Locations (U.S. only) and Online Retailers (U.S. and
Canada) that carry Nintendo products.
Thanks for sending us this report. I will be sure to forward it to the
appropriate departments for review.
By the way, while you are at our site, be sure to check out the My
Nintendo section. Not only does this allow you to monitor the progress of
any repairs or part orders that you may have, it also gives you access
to the Nintendo Forums where you can interact with other players. Here
you can discuss games and systems, and possibly obtain key game play
information. Take a look. I think that you will find it helpful.

Than why did EB games tell me it was discontinued and they sent all unsold copies back when I walked in and asked for it today? :hmm:

Interesting thread, I was actually wondering about this at work today. We had literally 40 - 60 of them EVERYWHERE in overstock and in-line and they recently just disappeared. I've seen quite a few people picking them up, but was surprised they were gone so quickly. I guess we sold through em really quick, or they were messed up somehow and pulled.
In our system they're already listed as "Discontinued".

I just sold one BIN for $82 plus enough S&H to cover the actual shipping cost and all of the ebay and paypal fees. :D
About $30 profit, I hope I can sell one more for the same price and that will mean that the one I bought for myself is free. It does seem like you can get more if you leave it on auction though, this is where I seen them go for $100+. I just want to move them though so $82 seems about right to me.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if it has in fact been discontinued. It's a Konami game, and it's no secret that Konami produce certain games in limited numbers.
Konami have proven time and time again over a period of fifteen years that their games stay in teh top ten of rarest collectable games for most consoles. Snes. PlayStation. Saturn... You name it, and I guarantee a Komani game will be amongst the top most rarest games.
And as this is one of a very few titles developed for teh GameCube by Konami (I can't think of many other Konami games off the top of my head), then it's no surprise that this could in fact become a very rare game in the future. Add to that the fact it comes with a peripheral that is so far only supported by only one game...

It has Mario in it. Something tells me that Nintendo is at the very least partially involved in the decision making for the game, and usually Nintendo pimps Mario for lots of sales. Something tells me they would've done the game themselves if Konami said that they would limit it (and therefore limit their sales.)
Unless a game is specifically marketed as a limited release, companies don't generally take very popular -- and very advertised for -- properties and pull them off the shelves. Even Konami. They don't get any money if your shrinkwrapped copy of [insert game name here] goes up in value, but they do get money if they produce and sell more copies.
I can all but guarantee that this has something to do with the mat maker, which I'm guessing is a third party. My guess is that they had a contract to do a bunch -- lets say 50,000 mats, and then when Nintendo ordered another batch they greatly raised the prices. It's probably an issue of finding another plant to make them.
Again, that's a guess, but that makes a lot more sense then a well-selling Mario game being purposely limited for a console that hasn't been generating sales during the holiday season.

Rare? No, not really, just popular and everyone wants it for Christmas. Yes the bundle is fairly hard to track down right now, but that is becuase people are coming out of thier hybernation to annually buy thier video games. In Jan. the game will be easier to buy, and by then the ebay auctions will have cooled down. Rare? Our store got in six copies, and we are now sold out. If the game was truly rare, we would have only gotten a copy or two. As in Konami producing some of the rarest games? I disagree. Atlus or even Koei, now those are companies who produce limited runs on games which are more common to be rare items.

For the record, if anyone is interested in a set, I'll sell it outright or trade for some DS/PSP/other games. It was used lightly for maybe five days.

Yeah, one of the associates wanted them, or wanted to sell them. Worst case scenario is that they had like 10, never sold a single copy, so they are reallocating them to other EBs in the area.

I gotta agree with Goat and That. It's gotta be a problem with the dance mats. And that email from NOA doesn't really explain anything either. All it says is that the game isn't *currently* being shipped. Doens't say anything about more copies being shipped in the future.
And has anyone ever heard of a rare Mario game? Not me. Although there is DDR Disney Mix for PS1 that commonly sells for $80-$90 used on Ebay, so I have a little doubt.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a game only version somewhere, not recently though.
I know people have it on ebay with the game only which would be odd if it only came in the bundle with the pad. I mean, why would they keep the pad and sell the game since this is the only game that can use it.

You people are crazy LOL - good crazy, mind you, but crazy all the same. If this game has been discontinued, I'll eat my hat, give up my collection and walk away from gaming forever!
Erm, what more proof do you need?
Retailers running out of stock?
Retailers saying it is discontinued?
Or NOA themselves saying it is discontinued?
Erm. Are these the same retailers who have been screwing everyone over with the Xbox 360? Honestly, they know less than we do! I've been into a store in the UK - had a game in my hand, waving it in their face - before being told they don't have the game in-stock! They're idiots.
Plus, NOA haven't said anything of the sort. Honestly, lets wait until January and see what happens. I'd bet my life that it isn't been discontinued.
Ugh. For the last time. The RETAILERS didn't screw anything up with the 360. 100% of the blame lies SQUARELY on MICROSOFT.
Microsoft: "We'll give you 50 units"
Retailers: "Okay, we'll take 50 preorders"
Microsoft: "BWAHAHAHAH SUCKERS WE'RE ONLY SENDING YOU 14 UNITS!!!!"
Anyway, the NOA_* staff at the Nintendo message boards are Nintendo employees, not just moderators. Like I've already said, they've never been wrong before, but I suppose there is always a first time for everything...

EDIT: Rare or not, I just sold one on Ebay with BIN for $110 shipped. Got lucky too since there were only about 10 minutes left in the auction (was a 1-Day listing) and there are now 11 pages of DDR Mario Mix auctions with BIN's a lot less than that.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to ship from the Amazon UK?
I dunno. Would it?

The game is £29.99 - shipping can't be that much, either. So, I guess it is cheaper.

Guess it is then. Too bad the buyer didn't know that.

Nice, that's a good price. I am also trying to sell some of these on ebay but have only sold 1 so far. As for the 11 pages of DDR Mario Mix, yeah, it's definately getting flooded. The average ending price seems to be going down rapidly.
I sold 1, still have 7 more. Oh well, I have the receipt so can always return what I don't sell.

Well, I feel stupid. I didn't read what you wrote properly. I thought you bought it, not sold it. Nice sale, though! :)

I'd bump your auctions up to 1-day listings then if I were you. Mario Mix bundles are still selling at $100+ right now but I'm sure that go lower in the next few days or so since everyone is in on the gold rush now..

@ norkusa (or anyone else),
So, you think that 1 day auctions would be a better bet than trying to go with the Buy It Now? I was doing about $80 Buy It Now and then doing the shipping calculator for the shipping, adding in enough to cover my listing fees as the handling.
What do you think?

I actually did $95 BIN with $15 for Priority ship w/ confirmation for the one I sold. I lucked out with that since there are a lot of BIN's at $80 or lower on the last few pages of listings.
I'd just start out the bidding at $0.01 with a 1-Day listing and let it ride from there. The sooner the auction ends, the better. I just watched an auction a few minutes ago with a stock photo end with a bidding war that reached $102.50 + ship, so there's still hope .

I'm going to give it a try on auction. I have a buy it now on for a full day now with no results. I have good feedback, sending it with the original gift receipt and everything is on the up and up. Just too many being posted I think.

Ha! Nice. Hope it does well. Mainly because I'll probably get shit from you if it doesn't. LOL

Well every store in Northern Delaware is SOLD OUT. I really could use one of these for my collection. I will be willing to pay what you paid for the set, + shipping + a few bucks in your pocket.
Also, we could work out a straight trade or a trade/cash deal.
Let me know, PM Me

After work I headed straight to Wal-Mart and bought one. There was an extra one left on the shelf and I thought about buying it but I decided against it at the last minute.

Plenty of them at the Nintendo World Store in NYC...picked one up today. They indicated they had at least 200 in stock *but* they were not getting replenished.
