I've observed from buying used games of the various sytems that used Saturn games seem to be in really good/excellent condition wheras used games of the current generation systems that I have gotten seems to look like a Cat went through them. I would like to hear what people think as this seems to be something I have observed from buying used games of the different consoles.

Saturn wasn't really "main-stream." Most of us Saturn lovers from way back in the day were hardcore gamers. As such we took really good care of our games. After all, there weren't a whole lot of them!

You guys in the US are lucky, you got crazily large CD style cases for Saturn and Sega CD which are quite cool.

In the UK Saturn games originally came in cardboard DVD sized packaging. I don't think I've ever seen games in such mangled condition. I've seen games with completely missing spines, and the folds on the case always fray and reveal the cardboard underneath.

I really wish SEGA just used standard sized jewel cases for Saturn games in the US.

Ah well, the large sized cases are fun to look at. -_-

Lucky?! Those pieces of junk would always break at the drop of a hat, they would be cracked during shipping, and the hinges would always wear out real quick.

I hate having to use Saturn cases, but I really don't have any other choice for my games. CD wallets scratch games, so I keep all my things in their original cases on a shelf.

Most are kept in such wonderful condition. Except most of the plastic cases I got are scratched and a few are just cracked completly(sp). But the games are all in perfect condition. :D

I wish that was the case with my Saturn...bought it a few months ago along with six games. All the games and cases scratched to hell, the Saturn had several scrapes on it and the hinge was broken. Fortunately, however, the Saturn worked perfectly. The games worked despite their scratches.

Another way I could tell that the people who owned this Saturn weren't hardcore gamers: When I opened up the battery compartment on the back, the little black strip was still covering the battery from getting drained. The owners of this Saturn had never even used its battery save function before! LOL

Actually, I think what happened is that people got more used to CDs over time. From the tons of disc-based games I've seen with the GOAT Store, it goes something like this:

Best Condition to Worst Condition, on average, used games... best at top.

Sega CD
Jaguar CD
3DO
Saturn
Dreamcast

From collectioning other things, Playstation falls right in between Saturn and Dreamcast. For some reason, it seems Dreamcast games are by far the worst taken care of out there. It is rare that we'll buy a package where there are much of any that don't have marks on them. On the other hand, Sega CDs, Jaguar and 3DO games are almost always super-minty and in special holders for them.

The Saturn falls right in the middle. Generally, they are nicer than the others, but we still get some scratched up ones.

Playstation games, from what I've received used, are generally a lot more scratched up than Saturn games, but don't reach the insane amount of destruction that it seems Dreamcast games "enjoy."

I don't know why, but PS2, Xbox and GameCube games appear to always be in generally better condition than anything back until the Saturn...

I may get slammed for suggesting this but perhaps the games that were played the most (the better games) are the ones that are found in the worst condition because they're handled more than others. At the same token, the games that weren't quite as good and weren't played as often (3D0) are now found in much better shape.

I don'tknow what this says for the Saturn though

Well, with the Dreamcast, it's not just that the games were taken care of poorly but also the fact that the system is hyper-sensitive to scratches and wear. I've played tons of terrible looking discs on PlayStations just fine, but a disc that doesn't look half as bad won't work at all on Dreamcast.
