Don't know if this is old news:

Acording to Sega World Weekly

Half Life on Dreamcast - Out Now!

Dust off your Dreamcast, the un-released Half-Life just got
released! Several years ago the game was completed but due
to reasons unknown, never made it out the gate. Now however
someone has leaked the game onto the internet and as you
can imagine, it's spreading faster than... well it's
spreading fast. Searching through IRC and Newsgroups are
the best bets if you're after a copy.

Along with Half Life, the Dreamcast port includes the Blue
Shift expansion pack. Apparently the frame rate can drop a
bit at times, and loading is a little long, but overall
it's great to see Half Life running on the old Dreamcast.

This game is the reason I bought a Dreamcast. I remember downloading the movies from Dailyradar.com. My computer wasn't fast enough to run the PC release. If anyone has ANY info on how to get a copy or any news releases please let me know. A link or anything. Thanks guys.

Add my plea to the list.

And I also would like Propeller Arena even more.

This is very "borderline" with our policies here, but since the DC is being washed out of retail stores as fast as they can get rid of them, I'll allow this. And as such...

It's easy.

alt.binaries.dreamcast

It's in 16 WinRAR files, though the image is in NERO format (and you need version 5.5.10 to burn it). I'm sure there are converters for NERO-to... CDRWin, for example, because I have one that goes the other way around.

Tempest

Now if only we had Propeller Arena..

For most of you people out there who don't have news access thanks to your Cable provider not wanting to support it  someone get me a working image and I will host it on my ftp. Also the reason DC games don't come in .bin .cue is that .bin .cue cdrwin cannot handle the file structure of a DC iso game. Most games are Multimedia Audio so track one is data and tracks 2+ are music.. DC games are 1+music, last track data.

You will need Nero or Prassi to burn a Dreamcast image. Though you might be able to use clonecd if you dump the .cue sheet and figure out what the parem.s would be

kainemaxwell
02-07-2003, 01:38 PM
Readeon, I'll be one thos epeople downloading the image from you..mainly since I dunno how to use Newsgroups to well. Myself and others willa ppericate this.

Where would I find Nero or Prassi and how do I use them?

digitalpress
02-07-2003, 02:06 PM
Nero and how to use it can be found here:

http://www.ahead.de/en/index.html#download

I've never used Prassi and have never needed it.

OK, I've got Half-Life for my PS2. Is there any reason why I'd want to muck about downloading the DC version, given that I prefer the Dual Shock to the DC controller for FPS games?

Ah...it's the curiosity of the thing, I realize. 'Cuz now I'm getting curious about it. I wonder if somebody will start making "official" bootlegs!?

How long will that account be active on you're ftp?
(I assume you created it specificaly for DP :D )
I have a god awful connection and it could take me awhile to download :(

I'm downloading it now off a friend of mine... it's gonna take another 5 or so hours, it's 404mb at 15-25kps down. at any rate, the minute i get the bitch, I'll up it to raedon's ftp before I even press it. it should be good, as I trust the guy who got it. so, unless it's there before approx 4am, I'll be uploading it. (good willing the irc dcc doesn;t time out) pray for me

I would be intrested in owning this game and since I do not own a burner or even know what you guys are talking about, would somebody be able to do this for me. (I will pay for the CD and shipping, maybe a little for your time as well)

jonjandran
02-08-2003, 12:28 AM
O.K. got it . I'm uploading it to Raedon's Ftp Site.
Here's the catch. You must use nero 5.5.10.0 or higher to burn it.
Any lower version won't work. And you must burn it track at once not disc at once. Just click continue when nero says you might get an error.
It's self booting. It has half-life and blue shift. Awesome!!!!!!!
I named the file halflife.rar
Oh and I had to use aol ftp for some reason , I couldn't get on to raedon's site any other way. So it's uploading slower than normal. As of now it says 360 minutes left. So you may have to wait until tomorrow.
If anyone want's it mailed to them , i might consider it.

Raedon
02-08-2003, 12:49 AM
use a real ftp program like FlashFXP or FTP commander (freeware).. passive mode also. Check your settings.. my ftp is off a G6 server and can handle every incoming connection if the login/pass is correct usually.

Raedon
02-08-2003, 12:54 AM
Whoever is uploading half life please stop and compress that .nrg image with winrar. or at least send a .sfv for CRC checking.. who is uploading?

02-08-2003, 01:12 AM
Yes I would pay or trade for a copy of this game as well. Can anyone help?

@jonjandran, could you upload it as seperate rar parts or did it come compleate.
If you can't I'll P.M you my email ;)

Raedon
02-08-2003, 01:27 AM
there are two people uploading and the one with the .rar not the .nrg wins.. .rar files self CRC and that is important.

I only have a dial-up connection. dose you're FTP support resumes?
and if so what FTP clients support them?

Raedon
02-08-2003, 01:54 AM
I'm using G6.. there is no better personal FTP client.. it supports resume.. all 56k'ers will get exactly 2 weeks to finish. please plan accordingly. I can support 50 56'kers before they start to drop below 56k so no worries..

Raedon

Wavelflack
02-08-2003, 02:36 AM
Another option for y'all: Get Direct Connect (from cnet or elsewhere), and conenct to any Dreamcast friendly hub. I used DCD (or Dreamcast Dude) console world. Look for filename "halflife-dcgold-xanadu"

When the cd's made, it'll boot up normally like a regular DC disc?

Wavelflack
02-08-2003, 10:39 AM
Yes. You just put it in and hit the power button.

You have to have the newest version of Nero (5.5.10) to burn it, though. However, you can get it free at www.nero.com.

The game is great, and pretty smooth, except it has a LOT of loading. There are 3 or 4 loading sessions just during the tram ride intro.

In any case, nice to see that it made it into circulation. I'll bet that Prop. Arena shows up very soon..what is next?

Wavelflack
02-08-2003, 10:51 AM
Here's yet another option for some of you: Use Kazaa. I'm on there right now, and I have the Nero CD image in my shared folder. Do a search for the following: HL-DC

You should find me, and you can get it in this manner.

Goblin

Any updates anyone? Raedon's ftp is overloaded and I can't find HL-DC on kazza anywhere.

Ok, I admit that I am kind of retarded when it comes to all of this computer lingo you all are talking about.

So, just for my clarification:

Half-Life is NOT available in a case with a manual, etc. It is only available in ROM form that you can burn to a cd.

This cd, if burned properly, will work on your DC.

Would someone please confirm if I am correct in my understanding.

Thanks,
Steve

Butta, use a FTP program and go to this address perhaps:

Readon posted it earlier for uploading HL there, dunno if that's where it is now but worth a shot.

when a working HL gets to me it will be in the download Dreamcast folder off the root.. please don't go downloading the incomplete 242meg HL rar as no one has stepped up to complete that file. Currently someone is uploading the original HL rar's they downloaded from god knows where.

It's DONE. Sorry about the delay guys. I didn't know it wasn't uploaded all the way. O_O I had to re-upload it. But it's on Radeon's ftp site now.
Don't forget to look at the post earlier on how to burn it.
ENJOY!!!!!! :D :D

Raedon
02-08-2003, 11:25 PM
it's up in the Dreamcast folder. it's 16 .rar files. I had to update to nero version 5.5.10 to get it to work (which has a DVD-Video bug anyway..)
CD image tested and works fine.

Limit is 8 users.. go to it.

Raedon
02-08-2003, 11:27 PM
Wow.. this game could have saved the DC.. wonder why it was never released..

jonjandran
02-08-2003, 11:29 PM
Yea, It's awesome. And I'm sure the load times could have been lessened dramatically with some time.

Raedon
02-08-2003, 11:35 PM
The HL-DC.rar in the uploads is untested.. please only download the 16 .rar's from the main part of the ftp. There are also incompletes in the upload. Sorry, but I will kick anyone attempting to download out of the upload area.

Raedon

Happy_Dude
02-09-2003, 12:26 AM
Raedon is da man :D
I can't wait to play this game :D

Just to be on the safe side, Nero says its version is 5.5.5.1
Thats what you have to use isn't it?

Raedon
02-09-2003, 12:28 AM
if it isn't the right version it will just give you an "Unexpected error" before you try to burn.

Tempest
02-09-2003, 12:32 AM
Once I download all 16 parts, how do I combine them into one image? Do you have to do that or does Nero work with multiple image? I've never seen one broken up into parts like this before.

Tempest

Raedon
02-09-2003, 12:39 AM
download winrar, it's just about the best compression utility out there.. way better then zip.. anyway open the *part01.rar file and winrar will automatically go threw all 16 files to make one .nrg file.

Here is a newbie question. which I figure others are thinking about as well: I've never assembled a game from the different binaries before. Once the downloads are completed, what is the next step? I'm guessing uncompress them with winrar or a similiar program. But how do the parts get pieced back together to make the full image?
