I have no idea who my secret santa was, although they left a calling card on the package with a wolf & a moon!

But they did great!

I got:

Blood Omen 2 - Xbox
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle - Game Cube
Galaga - NES
Donkey Kong Classics - NES
Mega Man: Dr Wiley's Revenge - Gameboy

Thanks very much to my VERY SECRET Santa!

You must've forgotten. It's all good though, I forgot to put anything inside the package, so I wrote it outside the package on the back.

man, im glad to see you guys got a bunch of cool stuff this year. seems like a lot of senders really thought out their gifts!!

i dont mean to be cynical, but i was a bit disappointed with my gift. i knew it was one game because i could hear it bouncing around inside the box, and my mind wandered, trying to figure out what game it was! typing this i really feel like im being greedy, but this was less than i had hoped for.

stellar fire for the sega cd.

its complete, but kind of a let down. hey, fills a void in my collection anyway...

Wow, don't let me get Luke Sutter again, please. I'm sorry I can't afford to send out massive packages like other people.

You're welcome, nonetheless.

@98PaceCar: it was me!

A proper thank you to Sailorneorune! Don't worry a bit about the condition of the cart. Trust me, I have far FAR worse!! ;) I'm just glad to get some retro goodness and even better that it's something my non-gamer girlfriend will play! Makes it that much easier to play my games!! LOL

Merry Christmas and thanks again!

My secret Santa this year was Bratwurst. I had requested either a good DS game, or good Xbox / GameCube games and I was sort of expecting (I guess more really hoping for) either Meteos or Castlevania... and I was right in my guess and got Meteos! I was really concerned about this game after having read about the "scribble" strategy so I had been avoiding picking it up, but I'm very happy to say that I shouldn't have been worried at all. For me, scribbling has not worked at all.

I opened it on Christmas Eve and have already played it for a few hours, which is incredible to me as I don't think I've been home more than four at this point (lots and LOTS of parties). It is a great game, and I'm very happy about it :D

And I got some red-hot sausages to go with it :)

I was going to get you something other than Meteos initially but you kept posting about new DS acquisitions over the month and that foiled my intentions! The search engine was also down at the time so I was periodically perusing random posts of yours trying to get a feel for which games you might have already tried and didn't like. :D

I would have gotten Lost in Blue but nobody had it locally and assumed you'd prefer a puzzler over a platformer. A friend of mine also has the DS Castlevania and they beat it pretty fast. Glad to hear the pick went over well.

After seeing some of the gifts sent out, I don't know if I could afford to participate next year... prices in Canada are brutal for games, and I would feel bad buying an ebay game that was damaged, and didn't make it into the box on time :P

Although it's truly the thought that counts, to be recieving more than giving would still make me feel bad...

Its all in the hunt and stuff you already have. I didn't spend much but was able to get Sothy a fair amount of games. I think it just takes more time than money.

My Secret Santa turned out to be gamegirl79, who sent me plenty of cool stuff and, with it, a lot of nostalgia.

-Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis), which reminds me of arguing with friends over who got to be Sonic, because no one liked racing as Tails.
-Golden Axe (Genesis), which reminds me of playing it with friends and pretending that I picked Tyris-Flare by accident.
-Killer Instinct (SNES), which reminds of the time a friend and I stayed up all night trying to figure out entirely made-up "secrets" that I shan't discuss here.
-Silent Hill 3 (PS2), which, unlike the other games, is best played when you're alone and easily freaked out, but it's still awesome.

Thanks!

Well I had boatofcar.

Anyway I'm not sure who had me but I got

Devil May Cry (PS2)
ChoroQ (PS2)
Suikoden CD Sampler
Nintendo Catalog

I just want to say thank you very much, I was kind of disappointed this Christmas as I didn't get one video game from anyone, so I really appreciate it. I've already cracked into Devil May Cry, it's awesome.

Thank you!

That would be me. The wife sent the stuff of before I could get a card put in:) But glad you liked it!

Myself, i can't remember who mine was, btu I got a Dragon Warrior COmplete, And Castlevania.

My package came from Finland from davidleeroth. He hooked me up!! All things I didn't have.

Boxed mint copy of H.E.R.O for colecovision

SNES games super bonk and rocky & pocky

My personal favorite, a nintendo micro vs. system boxing with instructions. It is in just about perfect condition. I never seen one of these in the flesh and it is sweet.

Thanks davidleeroth!! I will be having some fun for a while.

Merry Christmas!!

I'm glad you liked 'em. The VS. Boxing was a lucky local find. The seller told me it was new old stock, I only tried it to see it worked. :)

again, i feel bad saying that, but if the 'limit' is $30, and you can afford $5, i dont know that you should participate.

yes, i feel terrible saying it. yes, im likely to be viewed by many as an ass. but yes, i expected more than a $3 game. and yes, id expect you (HardCoreGamer) received something valued at more than $5.

my apologies to anyone who could only afford a $5 item. i dont mean to be a jerk, im just saying i expected a bit more. and im not the only one who felt a bit slighted....

qbertandernie, I don't think you're being a jerk. I think if I had received what you did, I would have been somewhat disappointed myself. You don't need to send a "massive" amount of stuff, but you certainly should expect more than a single game that may have cost little more than $5. I'm sorry the experience was not a good one for you.

Yeah, I realized that I should've probably suggested something for not-the-DS after I went on a DS buying binge right after I submitted my list. I am quite the fan of puzzlers, so I'm VERY happy with Meteos, and I can tell that I'll be playing it for a long, long time.

As for Castlevania, I bought it and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I'm having HUGE problems with the first boss. I've put it on the side for now to continue playing Meteos :D (and I'm still trying to finish GBA Lunar Legend by the end of this week too, but Meteos is nicely cutting into that time ;) ).

Yeah, I agree with you too. Receiving Stellar Fire for SCD is the same as getting a Mario Bros 2 or 3 cart. It's a lame gift. Anyone here will agree with that.

You don't have to send a crapload of stuff to your S.S. Just go to Gamestop or EB and pick out a couple cheap used games if you don't have much from your collection to give. It may not be as nice as some of the other S.S. packages received, but at least you won't be too embarrassed to put your name on the package.

For my SS just found my item on ebay cheap, didn't realize it was bi-lingual until I got it and the guy was in Canada, but wrote it off and figured be a nice little add-on to a collection. Found the Excitebike patch afterward and thought he'd like that as well. Both under $5-6.

I didn't participate this year, but I would strongly suggest that next year you don't allow people with under 500 posts to participate.

Otherwise, if you let people with no real investment in DP participate you're likely to get bad performance or no performance.

Apologies for the late response, but I've only just got back from doing the family thing.
From s1lence I received a fine grab-bag of US-Sega-games-not-released-in-Europe which comprised:

Armada (Dreamcast)
Sports Jam (Dreamcast)
Family Feud (Genesis)
Toxic Crusaders (Genesis)
Hang On/Safari Hunt (SMS)

Many thanks for that one! I'm quite embarrased to admit that I spent a good hour or so playing Family Feud despite being entirely hopeless at the US-centric questions... ;)

I don't think that that would be fair at all. I have been a member here for a while but I only post occasionally when I have something to offer that I feel is improtant, funny, or usefull. Most questions that I have have been answered before so I can just use the search function, therefore I don't have many posts, and I would hate to be withheld from next years SS.

About the SCD game that was given. Jaime SPECIFICALLY REQUESTS REPEATEDLY.... that if you're having monetary issues, let her know. *I* would have sent out a nother small gift just to make up for it, and I'm sure many others would have as well. Granted you probably wouldn't be allowed to do it next year, and would be generally looked down upon, but at least the receiver would have still been kept happier.

Hell, Qbertandernie, if you see $10 including shipping worth of games you need here:

Just let me know and I'll cover for ya :)

The game was on his list. I had it, and I sent it.

You people are acting all high-and-mighty over a GIFT.

I GAVE him something. I didn't have to give him ANYTHING.

I'm seriously offended by this. What, did you want me to pack up a bag full of things to him? Maybe I should have just given him all my systems and games while I was at it.

I got one thing(two if you count the pack of Donkey Kong cards), and I did not complain in the slightest. I enjoyed my gift, and I still do.

If you're going to be so picky, don't participate. That game was on his list, and I sent it to him.

I can't believe the way I'm being treated over GIVING SOMEONE SOMETHING.

I'm sorry I don't own a store, I'm sorry I don't have a visible means of income right now.

But complaining about a GIFT is like telling your parents you should have been born into money when they don't have it - it's OFFENSIVE.

Dude, it's simple. There's a $30 limit. One would naturally conclude that since this is a group of people with a common interest and we generally like each other and get alone, that people in a secret Santa would at least give something worth more than 10 lousy percent of that figure.

I think it's rather weak for anyone to complain as long as they got a gift. From what I've seen on this site, the pocketbooks and resources vary greatly among all the members.

This is the one of the reasons I enjoy talking with a lot of the people on here - some have access to all kinds of things I'd never find in a store here, and others are just fun to talk to. I haven't really been around enough to have participated in this event but it seems like it has been a lot of fun for a lot of people. Sure, there's always going to be a gift or two you're not thrilled about but that's part of the holiday.

I'm always glad to get socks for the holidays, everyone needs more socks!

The point of this ramble? Everyone really needs to lighten up and give what you think the person would like - or what you can afford. There's no point in bitching if you broke the bank on an NWC cart and got an Xbox mug in return!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I can see both sides of this and I enjoy sending off the gifts more than getting them and would participate even if I wasn't going to get something. At the same time I wouldn't participate in something that had a $30 limit if I didn't have $30 or at least $30 worth of stuff.

Jibbajaba
12-27-2005, 09:25 PM
I see what everyone is saying, but isn't the idea behind this supposed to be that you can hopefully give someone something out of your trade box? I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't participate in SS because I have expectations about what I am going to get. I just enjoy trying to hook people up with a couple of things that they might enjoy. And if I thought that I got screwed on my gift, I certainly wouldn't call the person out on it publicly without first discussing it with the person (POG) who organized the whole thing. I mean, if Stellar Fire was a game that you were looking for, and you had put it on your list, and then someone sent it to you, then whats the problem? Where is this all going? Are we going to have to pre-check our gifts with a third party so that they can be approved before they are sent out? Some people in the SS festivities get hooked up more than they expected to be. Others are going to be a little bit disappointed. That's just the way it goes. Same thing happens during Christmas. Sometimes we get what we want, and sometimes we dont.

I bought my mother a roughly $30 gift because it was something that she wanted. She bought me about a $180 gift. Does that make me some sort of scumbag?

It just seems to me that the gifts given for SS here ar egetting bigger and bigger, and therefore the expectaions are getting bigger. I would have to go back and read last year's "The cat is out of the bag" thread to know for sure, but it seems as though the packages are getting bigger. This raises expectations to levels that some people are not able to meet.

OK guys, I think that's about enough of the bashing and retaliating. If we keep this up nobody will organize an event next year. If anyone has any more griping they shouldn't do it publically. I'd like to keep this holiday event friendly and fun, the way it is supposed to be.

I'm not exactly sure who my SS was this year, but they sure hooked me up good! I got both Resident Evil 2 and Ghost in the Shell for PS1 but also Yoshi's Island for SNES! Both my PS1 and SNES collections are pretty sad, so these are all great additions! Now if I can just pry Yoshi's Island away from my girlfriend and play it myself, I'll be happy!

Thanks again and let me know who you were!

98PaceCar

@98PaceCar: it was me!

Sorry for the lack of name on the package... I didn't know I forgot to include a card until after I left the PO @ Henderson... d'oh!

I apologize for the cosmetic condition of the Yoshi's Island cart, but I am glad to hear that everything survived the trip. From my collection to yours, I'm happy to know that you like the games.

As for little ol' me: PapaStu, thanks! He hooked me up with Bomberman Online and DOA2 for the Dreamcast, both complete and mint. Bomberman will see plenty of play time when my mom comes home from vacation. Being home from school for a month leaves plenty of time to get one's ass handed to her at old-school gaming by one's relatives.

Well, thanks to both PapaStu for the awesome DC collection additions and 98PaceCar for informing me that he's happy with the small token of good cheer.

Merry Christmas everyone, and game on.

Glad you liked em. I had a bunch of the Ronin Warriors stuff, but they were 2200 miles away and trying to quardinate that with my mom finding them in my room wasnt gonna be pretty. I also forgot about the card until about a day after I shipped it. Sorry!

Midway Arcade Classics 3 sealed for PS2
2 different I/O plugin devices for the PSX (Very cool. I have never seen either of these)
Wendy's Mario Kart toy
MacDonalds Sega LCD toy
Universal XBox/GC/PS2 AV cables
Playstation to GameCube controller adapter
2 Namco PS2 demo discs
1 other PS2 demo disc
Final Fantasy X-2 store display box (appears to be unused)
Various cleaning products that will come in handy in keeping the old game room clean.
And as if all of that weren't enough, a $10 gift card for BlockBuster, which I am trying to use to buy Mario Kart Double Dash but I can't find it anywhere!!!

Then he includes a note saying tha he is sorry that he can't do more! :eek 2: Dude, you hooked me up royally. Don't say that!

Thank you very much, good sir!

The key word here is LIMIT. That didn't necessarily mean everyone had to send the equivalent of thirty bucks, especially as some people value some items more than other people. Yes, it's nice to average around that number, but it ain't always going to happen. Everyone lay off of him. Especially the people that didn't even participate.

You people should be fucking ashamed of yourself.

IT WAS A GAME ON HIS LIST. THEREFORE, IT WAS SOMETHING HE ASKED FOR.
It wasn't like he sent him a smb/dh or combat, or a pile of sports games that nobody wants. IT WAS A GAME HE WANTED.

Get a grip. If you're going to bitch about not gettin enough shit, do what i do. SIT OUT. Don't participate if you're going to expect to get $30 of shit; take your $30 and go buy yourself something instead.

And don't for a damn minute give out that "it's all from the tradebox..." line. You know damn well that well over half of you went on ebay, or to stores, to find stuff.

Merry fucking christmas.

Well said! I think the overall success rate of satisfied participants in this is amazingly high (over 95% by my estimate) -- that's great. It's too bad the squeaky wheel is getting so much grease in this thread.

Thanks, Jaime! Can't wait to do it again next year.

I don't have much of a trade box and if there was more on his list that i had that I could give him I would have. So I looked around cheaply on ebay for items on his list and an add-on or two.

My SS didn't put his DP name, but his first name was Bruce, but I'll leave his last name out for privacy. Anyway I got:

Intellivision Lives and Ace Combat 04 both for PS2

Thanks and Merry Christmas Everyone!

Not to steal his thunder (so to speak), but I'm betting it was Zektor.

Yup, that was me :) Hope you enjoy them! Merry Christmas!

Wow, this thread got very long. I didn;t even have the chance to post till now. Simply Dave sent me Gunstar Super Heroes and Metroid Zero Mission (both new) for the GBA! I did not have either game, and they are both excellent titles! Thanks again!

Meryy Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

this seems like a lot of fun. i have so many games that i figured it might be tough on whoever got my name, and i didnt really have a way to convey what i already have...so i didnt participate.

i wouldve gladly gotten a gift for someone else without receiving something...though that wouldve really screwed everything up! maybe i shouldve sent my name as an alternate if someone fell into financial hardships.

maybe next year.

Hrm.....And yet this year....complaints.
So what's different in your spirit this year, Q Bert?

You're an ass dude. Qbert (someone I don't really know BTW) didn't even out the cheapass, he outed himself.

Now POG, who I respect, said drop it, so I dropped it. I suggest you do the same.

You can fix that mario RPG issue with a SPDT Switch.
Connect the middle terminal to pin four; connect the left side to +5v, and the other side to ground. I believe ground is disabled, +5v is enabled.

my apologies to everyone. as i said in a PM to another Dp member who hadnt receive much of a gift

"im glad it was me who got the $3 gift and not someone who was put out spending $30. i, at least, can afford to spend $40 on stellar fire."

as they said, end it. i had a lot of fun sending the stuff i sent, and the majority of the participants got great stuff and good times out of it. not everyone can have the best time, and id prefer it be me at the end of these discussions and not a 12 or 14 year old kid who went out of his way to have a good time with this and give a great present to someone. like i said, ill still participate next year...

Last I knew, there were about six or seven of you, I think. So far, apparently one of those packages had delivery confirmation that shows it was delivered, but apparently not to the person that was supposed to get it (the one gamergary sent to mgriff). I can't do anything about that, but I sent a PM to gamergary about contacting the post office, as he's the shipper, to see what they can do for him; I didn't hear anything back yet. There are just some things that are out of my hands with this thing.

I can understand where qbertandernie is coming from, but I didn't even recieve my gift. My Secret Santa(Gamergary) had contacted me because I hadn't recieved my gift. He even provided a delivery confirmation number that said it was delivered when I entered it in on usps.com. I mean I know it's about giving and not recieving, but I didn't even get a gift. I had contacted POG, but she said there was not much that could be done at this point, the only thing is for gamergary to contact his PO. This has been a most disappointing christmas.

My SS was cauterize. He said that he had a hard time getting stuff I asked for, but he did great and I am extremely pleased.

I received a SMS light phazer, a NES Advantage joystick, a PAL copy of Metal Gear Solid 2 w/ a documentary and a PAL MGS3 cardboard slipcover.

Although I don't have a SMS, I have several games for it that need to be played. I can't wait to get a system to use the phaser I got, as the games alone weren't enough to drive me to hunt down a SMS. Hopefully I will be able to trade for one on the forums.
The NES joystick will be getting some use as I am in an arcade stage at the moment where I am not giving the usualy consoles as much attention as I normally would. I'm glad to have one of these since I can't seem to ever find any around here where I live.
My favorite thing is the MGS2 and I'm very glad to have it for my collection even if I won't be playing the game. This was surely the best item as I really enjoyed the documentary that was on the bonus disc. I never knew it existed and it was very entertaining and was too short, even at 40 minutes.

Sorry I can't get a picture up. My camera is out of order.

Thanks alot Caut!

I hope to hear from the person I sent to soon.

Enjoy the Advantage too, its a great stick!

Yaaaaaay! Finally got mine!

Inside a box marked "DP Secret Santa"

- CIB Yoshi's Story for the N64, yay! Pink Yoshi cart!
- A N64 carry bag!
- A Bomberman Gameboy game!
- American candy!

But I don't know who it was from, since they forgot to leave a handle anywhere on the box :(

Regardless, thank you!

Well, I'm sorry for being SO late in posting here....I ment to but forgot about it, with the holidays being a bad time for me and all that.

My SS was Vectorman -- I believe. Hopefully he'll correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Due to how much time has passed I don't recall EVERYTHING I got, but it was a wonderfull package, with a beta version of FFXI complete, a FF shirt, a Zelda cartoon on tape, a Castlevania comic book, the guide to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, a Hori screen protector for my DS, and some other stuff.

Then a few days later a SECOND package arived with a COMPLETE emulator set on CD -- from the Atari 2600 up to the SNES and Genesis -- as well as some episodes of Icon. X_x

I can't say thank you enough for all the cool stuff!

mmpoole8, I'm happy you liked my gift. I bought a few of those things at my local stores or online and then threw in some trade bait that I had. I did'nt spend over $30 on it, so no worries. :)
