Back when I was a little kid, my older brother was friends with Kevin Johnson. The former point guard for the Phoenix Suns back in the mid 90's. The only time I actually met him, is when he came over to see my brother. We all started playing Atari. I think I worked him over pretty bad in Home Run.

Actually, to be honest, at the time he was just in High School at Sacramento High, and he was very well known in the area as a great basketball player, but he wasn't really a celebrity at that point. Anyways, that is the one and only time that I've played a game with anybody that is somewhat famous.

Back in '94, when MK II came out on SNES, our copy had a bug where Raiden's electric shock move (hold button x for 5 seconds or w/e) didn't work.

I returned the game to Target, told them the problem. Mind you, I was 10 years old... and my 12 year old bro was too lazy to leave the house... he always sent me packing to rent his game, etc.

Anyway, this time a winner was me.

See, Target was closing, and my dad said "Son, time to go home we'll follow this up tomorrow" but the Target game worker (he was in his mid 20s) said "Hey kid, want to come backstage and play a few rounds with us?"

My dad nodded and I happily went to the back at 10:01 PM, everyone had gone home, store was closed and there I was in the backroom, with like 8 other workers, there was a snack/soda machine, a SNES machine, we popped my bugged copy in and had a few rounds at it.

That's not celebrity, no... but for a 10 year old kid, it was gawd DAMN COOL.

What sweet memories... 8-)

I used to play games with my ex-wife, who used to be a singer in a Rock and Roll band (Mind you, I was the drummer in the same band, and the games we played were quite different).
Actually, she always beat me at River Raid (VCS)

I played parrapa the rapper with some of the guys from the band LIT on campus at Virginia Tech.

Sony had a large booth set up on the drill field and I was trying out the then new games and some of the band members of LIT came up and joined in taking turns.

played virtua fighter II and ultimate mortal kombat III on the Saturn with Ice Cube. I kicked his ass big time, but I think his reflexes were shot from smoking too much bud that day and hung over from knocking down some colt 45 40 oz the nite b4.

There's nuthin sweeter than doing a fatality on a rapster/actor/gang banger/brutha from da hood muthfoh!

In 94-95 I was working at Best Buy. Once morning I was walking through the store (like an hour before we were open) and I saw some short guy in a trench coat playing PlayStation. I walked over to see who would be in the store while we were closed and it turned out to be Gallagher, the watermelon smashing comedian. That Best Buy is right next to a comedy club; his bus was parked outside, and he had just got a psx for his bus so he was looking for some new games. We chatted and played games together for a bit. I even got his autograph on my ticket book before he left.

At CGE2K4 I played an original Pong machine while Al Alcorn was in the general vicinity of the cab. I kept trying to discreetly get his attention and send psychic vibes his way ("Come play Pong with me, Al, pleeeeez...") but he didn't bite.

Got a whole lotta nuthin today...

<insert Mario voice> Here we go!!!

Back in the late 90's I worked at Alladin's Castle (ARCADE) in the shitty town of Ashtabula, Ohio (in a mall) as an Assistant Manager. I was out the back smoking a cigarette and a tour type bus pulled up, it caught my eye and I wondered who it was. Nobody came out of the bus, so I went back in to work.

About an hour later a few guys came in wearing band shirts and backstage passes. I thought, "How f'in cheesy to wear your own bands shirts & passes."

After a few minutes I saw one of them playing Darkstalkers 3 and I decided to go kick his ass (I used to be pretty good). After a few games, we stopped and I asked him what kind of band they were. He proceeded to tell me of their new record contract with so & so and how they just made their first video for MTV. He said they sounded like Alice in Chains which sparked my interest since I had liked them since 1992. He actually seemed glad to be talking to me and was a really nice guy.

Anyways I hooked them up with a bunch of free tokens since they were attracting lots of girls and customers. I played several games with them and then the wanted to go look for a video game store, I told them about my cousin's (Joe, a member here Captain J) store at the time.

They left and were gone for around an hour, when they came back in they had lots of stuff they bought and the bald guy that I played Darkstalkers 3 with handed me a bag. I opened it up and it was one of their new CD's, I thanked him and they said "So-long, I hope you like it!"

The band?? Godsmack....not my favorite, but a cool story none the less.

Ummm, yeah. Me. :D

I don't think I have, but I did meet plenty of them at E3. So technically, I guess I could have been in the same room while playing games...

Also I forgot ,the following isn't my story, but a cool one!

A friend of mine Jamal, who also happened to work for me, told me about a contest he was going to enter. "If you win.." he said "...you get to play video games on T.V. like in the Real world or Survivor!"

I told him not to waste his time he would never win. He said he didn't care and was going to try anyway.

He had to send in a video explaining why he was the biggest XBOX fan and why he should be on the show. He and his friend made a video all right.

First they went to his room of doom and showed his collection of classics and Xbox stuff. He acted like a cheeseball and really hammed it up.

Second was a "date with his XBOX at the local roller rink/arcade. He had to pay the owner like $50 to let him film in there. He skated around with his XBOX in his arms and snuggled with it while they shared an intimate moment.

After that they went to a restaurant and shared a Mountain Dew (also a sponser of the show). He looked into his XBOX's eyes (eye??) and asked it to marry him...it said yes!

Then the wedding...his XBOX donned a wedding veil and he a tuxedo. They then made a vow to live together in holy matrimony.

Jamal sent in the video to Spike TV two days before the deadline. He and his newfound bride eagerly awaited to hear the answer.

Flash foward a few weeks and Jamal calls me at work on Monday BEGGING to have the next week off (and if I could cover his shifts). "Why?" I asked. He got on the show and had to leave on Thursday (3 days from now). I said O.K knowing full well as a Manager I only got a salary (hence NO PAY for extra hours worked).

He went to Hollywood, CA on Thursday and was set up in a glass room with 3 other "hardcore" gamers. They had to play games 24 hours a day and one of them always had to be awake. The last person to fall asleep would be eliminated.

So they played games for things like soap, a pillow, good meals of their choice (losers had to watch him eat a HUGE burger while they ate food from a local prison).

Anyways, Jamal was WINNING left and right, I think he won every challenge except one. Man he was acting cocky, gloating all around that small glass room right on Hollywood Blvd. with everyone (including the chinese M.I.L.F. guy from American Pie) watching him.

He beat a pro-football player (I think Culpepper, I'm not a football fan) at a early version of Madden '05. He continued to talk shit to everyone including the 7 foot tall 300 pound+ football player. He was pissing people off left and right.

Then Corey Feldman (of Goonies fame) came in to play, Jamal proceeded to beat him down and continued to excessively smack-talk.

He ended up getting everyone eliminated except for one guy. They had a sudden deathmatch in a several different games. The result was obvious or was it?

...O.K. it was obvious. Jamal won! After 7 days of being confined to a small glass room he finally WON!

His prizes were presented by none other than Corey Feldman who smiled the whole time. Among the new found goodies was an XBOX kiosk unit, 8 ft tall which was 3 of a kind. He also won a Microsoft internet watch, a really expensive Pocket PC, a Mountain Dew machine with a years worth of soda, and a complete XBOX library. He also won several other things that I can't remember. He recieved in addition to all of that several endorsments from companies such as Mountain Dew & EA Sports after the show aired.

Preatty cool story...eh? Not really, he did'e give me a damn thing for covering his shifts with NO PAY! LOL

At CGE, I was talking to Al Alcorn, and he says "Hey, Kev, how about a game of Pong?" Who am I to turn down Alcorn on the original Pong machine? Well, the man is old now, and his reflexes aren't what they used to be, so I managed to go up 10-8. Al then pulls the "knock the ball in the corner you can't reach 3 times" bastard of a trick; I asked him about it, and he said "the corner you can't reach" was left in there intentionally.

Some guys from a German magazine filmed it and I said something about Pong in German for them, so if any of you ever happened to pick that up, I'd love to see it.

Well I guess I did once. Back in 98 I decided to hang out near an arena where WCW was going to be broadcasting Nitro that night. I did not have tix, but I went anyway. The show was sold out and I did not expect to end up inside...however I saw a guy outside the arena with a WCW crew shirt on and asked him how he got into the business. He was actually subcontracted by WCW for special effects. Anyway after talking to him for a bit he gave me a ticket and claimed his uncle was supposed to meet him for the tix and never showed. I gladly accepted it and went inside. To make a long story short, I went to their hotel after the show and hung out with a good portion of the WCW staff in the hotel lounge. Among them were all the Nitro girls, of which I played a game of pool with. The asian nitro girl (Chae) :-P  wanted to play pool and no one had quarters in their pocket, so I piped up and said I'd play her. She accepted and we played. I was beating her until Kevin Nash (who was sitting near the table) decided to bump my cue stick as I was taking a shot on the 8 ball which in turn made me scratch. I turned around to see who had messed with me and he had a big grin on his face like "what are you gonna do?" I just laughed it off and proceeded to enjoy myself the rest of the night chatting with various wrestlers and all the original Nitro girls (also Miss Elizabeth) It was by far one of the most fun nights I've ever had. I do have a T-shirt somewhere with all their autographs on it to as proof that I did actually meet them all. A very fun night indeed. I'm still pissed off that I had no camera though!

Good man.

I just remembered that one of my friends played J Allard on Live a few weeks ago. Xbox.com was hosting a bunch of "play J Allard" games on PGR3 or something. I tried to get in on the action, but Mr.Allard is a Nazi when it comes to his xbox live buddies.

Dizz was a real cool guy though. Told me a lot about the old days. He thought it was real funny when I told him our family named the cat after his teammate Ceppie Mays. He was like "wha? why didn't you name it after me?" :P

At Gamefest Milwuakee 2004 (an RPG convention) I ran a game of D&D for Gary "The creator of D&D" Gygax's current publishers (Troll lord games), and I think, Gygax's youngest son was playing too. They were impressed, and handed me and my co-GM buddy signed and numbered copies of Gygax's new RPG Lejendary Adventures. And someday I WILL play a game of D&D with the man himself (I've met him, shook his hand, got my monster manual signed, spoke at length about the episode of futurama he guest starred in, but still haven't played with him).

At Gamefest Richmond 2004, I didn't exactly game with any celebrities, but I hung out with and helped sneak food back into the convention center for Monte "Co-Author of 3e D&D" Cook, and then proceeded to watch him play in a game with some friends, and then run a game for same said friends, while I sat and watched our table of D&D. :(
