Hooray! I haven't been able to emulate Discs Of Tron since I switched to a Mac. That'll do nicely, and with controls that make sense (I assume, anyway.) Getting complex controls down in Mame is a chore, to say the least.

Sid Meier's Pirate's, Ninja Gaiden Black, and Black should be up under Xbox originals, tomorrow (Monday)

Any idea of the file sizes this time around? I'd like all three but I think I only have enough room for about 1 more Xbox Original.

Do the unlockable games in Ninja Gaiden Black work on a 360?

I'll at least get Sid Meier's Pirate's, how's that run on a 360?

well, you could always try that "towel" trick.

lol, I tried it and it actually work!...for a few hours. I'm not going to bother to try it again, I really don't want to burn my house down...and plus, I'm having too much fun with my dreamcast right now

Actually - 2 games this week...

Discs of Tron and Commander: Attack of the Genos

Commander looks interesting, but I'm doubting the $10 price tag. I'll have to try the demo when it's released tomorrow.

Discs of Tron controls horribly (unless you have the arcade controller with the rotary knob), and sounds just plain awful. Apparently, whoever designs the emulators for all the 360's old arcade games, never played the originals. They need to hire some of the MAME guys.

Commander: Attack of the Genos is pretty fun. It pays almost exactly like Advanced Wars. The 40's music tends to get annoying, though.

Believe it or not, I'm probably gonna purchase Commander, even though I was really looking forward to some Discs of Tron...

Oh well..

I just knew that Discs was going to get destroyed with bad controls, why can't they get them right? They have been emulated for YEARS correctly.

Mmm, the arcade controller doesn't make Discs of Tron control any better ... that rotary knob shouldn't have been built with any type of "resistance" it really makes it useless on games that require using it for fast aiming.

In any case, I thought Discs of Tron controlled decently with the standard A setup on the 360 controller, I got to the 6th or 7th round with no major issues on my first go.

As much as I like the job that they've done on SOME console and portable emulations (namely the Capcom Classics) I really wish some company other than Digital Eclipse would get into that genre ... as when Digital Eclipse half-asses it, they REALLY half-ass it.

IMO Discs of Tron ain't bad. I've seen worse, and it seems to be a notch above the quality of regular Tron on XBLA.

Agreed. Granted I'm much more familiar with Tron (which I get to play at least a couple times a year) with Discs of Tron (which I haven't played for 20 years). I had the same feeling about this game as I had about Tempest...although I found the game repulsive on a technical level (why does Sark sound like Pinbot?), I found myself playing repeatedly trying to top my high score. And if my friends get it too, I'll be trying to top their scores.

Disks of Tron isn't that bad on XBLA. There's only really one sound issue, and it's close to the same one in regular Tron (the "between levels" theme sounds pretty screwy). In fact, with a decent stereo setup, the sound is really quite cool (check the low, bassy sound when the platforms appear in each level--shakes my house!) The enhanced graphics also approximate the environmental cabinet. This is pretty cool for 400 points.

Oh, and Kid Ice--Sark always sounded like that! (You probably knew that.)

The game plays a bit like the PDA games on Alien Homonid - boring. Controls are awful. Music is pretty good, though....

And 800 points for a 13 meg game? Can we say "Rip off?"

It's tough to stomach because N is a free flash game. That said, the platforming is some of the best in recent memory, if a little simplistic.

$9.99 is a bit of a stretch, but not much of one.

My initial impression is that N+ is one of the best games on XBLA. I am not familiar with the Flash game so I'll have to check that out.

If you don't appreciate the game's C64ness, I can imagine why you would not be impressed.

From what I remember, N+ as a flash game with a keyboard didn't work so well for me. N+ with with a 360 controller however, is a match made in heaven. Sure the controls are difficult for the first thirty seconds or so, but I picked them up right after that and am having no issues on that front. I rarely buy Arcade titles, the last one being Pacman CE which I bought like, last June. Not including Dig Dug when it went on sale for 200 points. I feel this was finally something worth spending the points on.

Decent on the Achievement front, too.

Anyone know of a good site to get information on publisher plans for the video marketplace, like a site such as tvshowsondvd.com for dvd's?

I'm curious if 'Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown', is going to be the only release Warner Home Video puts on the marketplace in their releases of Peanuts television shows now that they've started doing DVD releases since getting the rights. I couldn't find the dvd release of it locally upon release a few weeks back, and I doubt I'll find "It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown" that just came out either.

But there is online co-op...? 50 levels for co-op, or you can play the single player levels with other people.

Co-op is a blast with 4 people. Fun stuff.

Has anyone played the game JellyCar(XNA creators club)?
The game is fun. I must have played the first level for over an hour, before I figured out how to switch levels. I am really hoping the game has a level ceator in it(like excitebike).

The fun factor really depends on level design. The first level was fun but too short. I let my son(4 years old) play it and he smashed my record in his first few tries. I still can't beat his time of 8.910 . I doubt anyone can.

Download the XNA player in marketplace. After you do that, go to your games library, where you would access your arcade titles.

Move the guide over to "XNA Creators Club". Press Y, then the list of demos should appear. Download away!

Finally got around to playing the demo for N+ and I must say....what a blast! I honestly think Microsoft might get my 10 bucks for this one. :D

Vectorman0

N+ has been one of my most played XBLA games in a while. I think I'm up to about 50 XBLA games at this point, and I haven't played many as much as I have played N+ so far. If you like the demo, you will like the main game. Just keep in mind it gets a lot harder, but that's the point. It will keep you busy for a while, and I have barely touched the multiplayer modes thus far.

I've only played Triggerheart for an hour or so, here are my impressions. Triggerheart is a short shooter, taking maybe 20 minutes or so to complete. It isn't one of the best shooters you will ever play, but it is a solid title any shooter fan will appreciate. The gameplay system is nothing spectacular, but it does give you the ability to grab enemies and have them automatically swing around you to deflect bullets/enemies or even throw them back at other enemies. It seems gimmicky, but I think it comes in handy at certain parts and I think it's a necessity if you are going for a higher score.

The game starts out fairly easy, and the difficulty ramps up pretty evenly. After a couple tries, I could complete the first level only dieing once, but the last levels still have me using multiple continutes. Keep in mind I consider myself to be mediocre at shooters, and I'd say I'm terrible compared to anyone who plays them regularly. The music is average, but is never annoying. It doesn't really add or detract from the game. The visuals are are on par for a DC type shooter, which is honestly perfect in my opinion. There is some story about you been some young pre-teen girl, and I honestly skipped it. Not to mention you can barely read it, even on my HDTV. However, that brings up the point that there is screen rotation available in the options menu which will basically double the viewable area on a 16:9 TV. I see this as a huge plus, not enough domestic shooters have this option when they all should. Even though it is a pain to rotate and hold up and LCD with 30 wires coming out the back, it's worth it once it's done. Besides that option, you can mess with the volume, difficulty, ships, bombs and bones lives.

That's basically it, there are no extra goodies that you might find on a full price shooter, which is understandable as this is a $10 game. There is just the (single player only I think) arcade game with infinite continues from the start. I'd compare it to the DC version if I had access to it, so I don't know if anything was left out or not. For $10, any classic gamer or shooter fan will probably enjoy this one. It fills the shooter gap on the XBLA very well for the time being.

(also, if you are only about achievements, forget this game unless you are godly at shooters)

Thanks for the heads up on the XNA stuff boys, I really enjoyed The Dishwasher. I predict that's going to be a big hit when it drops on XBLA proper.

I'm profoundly underwhelmed by TE, and with Ikaruga's release imminent (?), it's throwing away 800 pts if you ask me.

having paid the 800 points for TE, I knew going into it, that it was only 5 levels, but it is a solid shooter, however it is breif, heck I beat the game w/ the first character in 20 min I think, if that. LOL, but I was going off that for the DC this was selling for 50-60 on play-asia, so I thought 10 bucks wasn't too much to pay for it, however I don't regret my purchase, and judging by the acheivements it will take along time to get all 200, some of them seem borderline impossible.

It's been four long years since Namco Bandai last graced us with its diminutive pink spelunker Mr. Driller in Mr. Driller Drill Spirits for the Nintendo DS. Thankfully, it's an oversight the company will soon remedy with the newly revealed Mr. Driller Online (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/859/859593p1.html), a downloadable version of the casual puzzler currently in development for Xbox Live Arcade.

Details are currently light, though the game, which so far has only been confirmed for release in Japan this Spring, looks to stay true to the series' uber-cute roots of downward drilling and colors vibrant enough to make a box of Crayolas blush. The game will also include a handful of new modes and gameplay over Xbox Live, making the one thing that has been missing from the saccharine puzzler -- online trash talk -- a reality. Finally!

Well that's somewhat consistent with the old Koei XL expansions, but I'd think a purely digital distribution should cut prices somewhat, considering that (I assume) the PS2 retail DVD version is the same price :\

I'll be post-call and home for half the day (and hopefully awake). I know what I'm doing that afternoon.

I just noticed there's a new Pinball FX table of Rocky & Bullwinkle.

Is this a completely new table, or a remake of the actual Data East table? If it's the Data East table, I'm buyin' it....

Anyway, Mr. Driller Online is quite fun. There's alot more replay value on this one, compared to the DC version.

I have no idea, but there's a video of it at GameTrailers:

How so? I'm on the fence about downloading the XBL version seeing as it really didn't seem like much of an upgrade from the DC version. Does the game fill the whole screen or does it have those lame "placeholder" graphics on each side (like so many other XBLA titles).

Actually, it shows your score, current power-up, and other information on either side of the screen. But I guess you could say it's a full screen game. Split screen for multiplayer.

Quest mode is the most fun. You have to complete certian tasks before you can pass the level. And one false move can literally mean game over. Even if you have 3 men left. The achievements also help alot.... These achievements are actually pretty hard for a Namco arcade title (or I suck at this game, one of the two...)

Sadly, the only thing missing from this version is the noise Mr. Driller makes when he picks up an air capsule.

This Friday marks the debut of the final season (http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/) of Battlestar Galactica (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/battlestargalactica/), and while we have no delusions that the 60 minutes of commercial interrupted TV will leave us any more stupefied than we were at the end of last season wondering what in the frak is going on, we nonetheless cannot wait to pick our jaws up off the floor.

To celebrate the premiere, Sierra has chopped the price of its casual BSG-themed XBLA shooter in half to 400 points, and while playing the game still just serves as a painful reminder that we still lack a real Battlestar Galactica game, the new price is nonetheless a welcome treat. But get it while it's hot; the toasters are going to jack the price back up to 800 points 24 hours later. So say we all!

Mr. Driller does seem to have one problem though--online multiplayer is shit. I tried for a long time to get anyone to play with me. I was really confused because usually the day the games are released there's a lot of people in the lobbies just kind of experimenting with the multiplayer. But when I actually got some people I quickly learned why nobody was using it.

The lag was absolutely rediculous. It was literally unplayable. It's simply unacceptable how bad that was. Literally, you had to drill a block about 10-12 times before the game caught up with you and recognized that you had done it.

Did anybody else have this problem or is it just me?

Does Mr. Driller have splitscreen "offline" multiplayer? Can I play with someone sitting next to me on the couch? The demo didn't give any indication of what "multiplayer" entailed.

Maybe it's just because I was tired when I played it last night, but do the graphics for Mr. Driller seem not as sharp as they could be? I'm playing it over HDMI at a bit over 720 and only this game seems, not blurry, but just really soft around the edges. It looks like it delivers what it promises, but I don't think I'm going to pay the price for this one for quite some time.

Yup, the reviewer agreed that the online multiplayer is crap, the local multiplayer doesn't exist and to him the in-game graphics seemed slightly out of focus too. Glad to know I'm not going crazy.

The "blurry" character/block sprites were the first things I noticed. It didn't look like much of an improvement from my DC version hooked up via VGA.

This release is a huge disappointment. It's a shame since I've really enjoyed the Mr. Driller series in the past and looked forward to this release. Hopefully they can fix the multiplayer issues. I'm not going to totally give up on the notion of buying the full version some day. Still, no local multiplayer is hard to swallow.

Yeah, why is it so blurry??

Its like they recycled the GBA code for a tv screen.

Looks like an easy 200 points though.

We got a tip that Mr. Driller Online for XBLA is having a problem with the online portion of the gameplay. Turns out that the person hosting an online game is fine while the other person can't drill anything. X3F (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/04/02/x3f-tv-mr-driller-live-multiplayer-is-a-laggy-mess/) put a video together of the bug which we've placed after the break.

Another test of Mr. Driller's online capabilities was done today with the same broken result. No word on a patch in the works. Best to save your 800 MS points for the moment, no sense in supporting broken titles.
