Anyone play this game still? It's obviously overshadowed by the likes of World of Warcraft, but I still prefer good old Diablo II.

Anyway, currently I have a Level 73 Immozon equipped with M'avina's set (-Helm, I'm pretty poor by Diablo Standards. I have no High Runes.)

I'm working on my Summoner right now, he's lookin to be quite good. I'm lookin for Trang Oul's set, as I have the armor already.

I'm on US East Ladder: *Assballs

If anyone is interested in joining me for some MFing or trading, I'll be glad to play. Also, we can discuss different character builds and items in this thread.

I try to play Diablo II whenever I get a bit of free time - something I'm a little short of at the moment. This is why I play it over something like WoW though - I can play a little here and there and don't have to worry about getting value for money each month!

My character's a level 73 too - just a lowly Amazon. I say lowly as although I play Ladder, 99% of the time I play alone which seems to badly affect the drops I get and obviously I don't get any trading done so all the stuff I've found so far is just stuff I've stumbled across myself. As such, my character's not good enough to take on the statues at the Arreat Summit on Nightmare! I know that with another character's help I'd fly through that part but I want my character to be good enough to beat them alone. Still, I keep plodding on....

That seems to happen to a lot of people. Which character class did you start out with? When I first bought this game years ago, I started out with the Necromancer, which at the time, was a pretty hard character to use since the summoned skeletons weren't as strong. But I was able to beat Normal mode with him. He was a really fun character to use.

I'd suggest using a Necromancer, Amazon, or maybe even a Sorceress if you end up trying it again. Most of the fun in this game is pretty much collecting items and runes.

I remember playing Diablo II (not the expansion) single player. Great game, but it did get a little tedious...hack hack potion hack potion hack potion hack hack potion pick up gold save repeat...

I started out as an Amazon.

Another good one was Dungeon Siege, but it still didn't alleviate the ad naseum right mouse clicking.

Never played either online, as I didn't have broadband at the time (and tying up the phone line for hours on end = bad).

I played like crazy towards the end of the first ladder season in 1.10. Once the new season started and we had to start over, it kinda lost its appeal. I've dabbled ever since, but I've never been into it as much as I was back then.

Dungeon Siege literally played itself. All you had to do was click to move the party and the characters would attack anything in sight. That game was even worse than Diablo in respect to doing nothing but chugging potions.

Is there anything that tops Diablo II in this kinda genre? Just curious to see if I'm missing out on something possibly.

Maybe not topping it, but for offline hack and slash on the console side, the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games are pretty good too.

Ah, I'd forgotten about those. My GF and I finished Dark Alliance on the Cube (bit of a mixed game that - we enjoyed it but it was rather flawed in places). Plus I've got the sequel on the Xbox sitting unplayed... might have to rectify that soon!

If you are on USEast Ladder, then I can rush you all the way through Nightmare. My Amazon SUCKS in Hell because if I run into anyone with Fire Resist, I can't do anything. It was more built to play through Hell with a group of people.

Let me know your account name if you're on USEast Ladder if you're really interested in getting rushed and playing again. I could use more friends to play with in that game anyway.

It probably goes without saying, but World of Warcraft might as well be Diablo III.

The simliarities between the two titles are overwhelming.

While I have no doubt that a DIII proper is coming at some point, it won't be any time soon. Blizzard is still making more than most third world countries on WoW alone. No need to rock the boat.

Am I the only person who likes to play Diablo at a steady pace rather than rush through to each boss and back out again & repeat forever?

It's the main reason I play solo as when I'm in a multiplayer game the other players are often trying to call me over to help them when I'm in the middle of exploring. Judging by the amount of rushing players, it does seem to be just me!

Nirvana
02-12-2006, 05:37 AM
Actually, devilman, that is the way I prefer to play too. I don't mind rushing other people, but when people offer to rush me I'm usually reluctant to answer. I think the most fun is there when you have a couple characters of about equal levels beating the game.

Demon Stone is built on the LOTR:Two Towers engine. It's a 3rd person adventure game. Not an RPG, but quite good anyways. Bard's tale is an action RPG of sorts, but misses that collector feeling that you get from the other games. (you don't carry an inventory. Any better items you find automatically get upgraded, and any worse items get turned into gold)

I'd hate to bust the bubble, but from what I heard months ago they are planning on making D3 into a MMO like WoW, but then it's most likely a ploy to scare current Diablo fans away from the series later down the road.

As for the playing aspect of the game, I got D2 when it was first launched, before my computer at the time could even handle it. As a result my parents got me a new computers several months later for Christmas, so it all worked out. When the expansion came out, I got that too. I never really got into the game til spring '05 inwhich I went from softcore to hardcore. There's a lot more hacks on hardcore ladder because of the ear situation and no respawning. After I lost my lvl.92 lightning trap assassin to a level 67 fire sorcorer that used a TPPK hack with the current update on Diablo2 that was supposed to stop that sort of hacking, I quit. I was told from a few b.net buds that they flaunted my ear for several days. It didn't seem worth it to play a game that someone beefs up a character just to kill you, someone that spent nearly 300hrs on a character, nonlegit. But I still have a level 75 hardcore Amazon so if you ever want to start on the hardcore ladder I can get you started.

Maybe Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption. I haven't played much Diablo II, but I consider V:TM-R superior to the 1st Diablo.

V:TM-Bloodlines may be even better, perhaps surpassing Diablo II. Then again, perhaps not.

US EAST LADDER ONLY.

Ya, count me out. I only play hardcore ladder on US East. I was done with softcore in no time because of the ease. It took a month before I could make a character that can survive in hell on hardcore with a full game solo MFin on act 2-5 or cow for that matter. I got near no assistance so it was rough but very fun. If you haven't done hardcore before, give it a try. If you die level 14 or something, just give it another try because it is possible to get high levels. Now whenever I make a character on hardcore, I won't die until level 70+.

I first tried this game aaaaages ago, never really got into it though.I installed it on my laptop earlier, and I've just had a pretty fun session running about being a Paladin. I've managed to get to Level 10 so far today and it's been really enjoyable. I have no idea why it didn't appeal to me at first. Oh man, I used to freak out on Diablo II, it's such a bad ass game. I never hacked though, didnt even have a maphack....most of my friends did though haha.
Yea, I had a level 80 something Whirlwind Barbarian. 5 Filled mules....full IK, most Minerva, full Tals....a mule with every slot filled with P gems and mid to high level runes.
Then I was inactive for too long and they all got cancelled....very dissapointing.
In fact though, the other day I was looking to re-install and play the hell out of it....then I realized I let a friend borrow it a while back. But, I get a hold of my friend and he should be bringing it back to me this weekend. So hoperfully I'll have it back and running soon. Yeah, I'm pretty upset over the Ladder reset. I started playing again in March, and I'm working on a Hammerdin that is Level 55 now. I wanted him to be my MF character, but all of a sudden they decide to reset the Ladder. So I refuse to play at all until I can start fresh again once the Ladder resets :(

Ugh, why couldn't it be like Season 3 I think it was where they let the ladder run for like 2 years.

I haven't played this game in a year or two. I got it because it was on sale at Circuit City, and was one of the only cheap RPG games I could find for a Mac. I really liked it, but played it offline mostly. I did dabble briefly in the online realm, but realize how inexperienced I am.

I tried to play it again (offline) a few months ago, but wasn't really feeling it. I had a Paladin, but maybe I would enjoy it better if I tried a different character. Any suggestions? As far as RPG's go I have always been more fond of charcters that hack and slash, than characters that use magic.

A big "problem" with Diablo II is that it can start off a little slow in the beginning, because you don't have many abilities to choose from. Once you get the skill you've been desiring to get, the game gets super fun when you get stronger and you decide to put more points into said skill. Also, what a lot of beginner Diablo II players do is put skill points into whatever's available to them once they achieve the level required to learn a skill. This ends up in a mess because the player becomes weak later on in the game. This turns a lot of people off to Diablo.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it up until I got stuck really far into the game. It was at the boss (forgive me as I haven't played in forever) thats in the city with all the lava... Is that Diablo- he's a red guy running around. Anyway, that's enough to make me give up on a game. I hate replaying a game from the beginning that I've spent so much time on because I saved at the wrong time or didn't get the right abilities. That's also sorta why Resident Evil pisses me off so much. I wind up playing the games incorrectly, and then fuck myself later in the game. Oh well, Diablo II has so much stuff in it, I'll give it another go soon.
