Well Ive really got into tetris lately and my fiance and I are having 2 player battles every night and while we enjoy Tetris evo on the 360 the DS is by far the best tetris version out there, pure gaming bliss.

It is a three way tie for me:
The offical NES version, since that was the first version I played and played well.
THe orignal GB version, for the classic Tetris theme.
And the unoffical Tengen NES version, because when you pause, then use the Konami Code, what ever is falling becomes a straight piece!

Well, I'm not an SNES fan but there is one game that alone would make me get one again - Tetris Attacks. My wife and I played this thing religiously when we were first married. She was awesome at it and I'd always get my butt kicked but it was a fun two player game. My favorite Tetris hands down.

If you enjoyed that game, you should totally check out Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure (DS), BTW.

I don't have a DS unfortunately. I have a GBA though, anything like Tetris Attacks for the GBA?

I don't have a DS unfortunately. I have a GBA though, anything like Tetris Attacks for the GBA?But of course. There's Dr. Mario/Puzzle League. (Every incarnation of the game since the original Tetris Attack - aside from Panel de Pon, which preceded it - has had "Puzzle League" in the name, presumably because the people who hold the rights to the Tetris name wouldn't let anyone get away with calling something like that Tetris again.)

Personally, I am not a Tetris fan, but I loved the Game Boy version. Good music, basic gameplay, good pack-in game.

for me, Tengen Tetris is the best and The B&W GameBoy version is the second best. If I had to choose a third, I'd go with Tetris Plus for the Saturn.
When playing by myself I play the original Gameboy Tetris on my Gameboy Player.
For multiplayer, The New Tetris for the N64 is the way to go. The four player option is a hell of a lot of fun as you can direct at any moment which other player you can dump your combo attacks onto. Theres nothing like yelling back and forth among your friends to team up with you against someone else, especially if if it's against someone who is just about to finish you off. Great memories.

Im torn between the GameBoy and Nintendo Entertainment System versions. Although, if I was forced to pick, I would choose GameBoy as it was the first handheld game I ever owned and played.

The Game Boy version is perfect, even 20 years later. The NES Tengen version comes close though, and has a variety of cool options. The NES Nintendo version would come in third.
I'm also partial to the keychain version. That baby got me through some long days back in high school. :)
My favourites are the Tengen version on NES, the Famicom exclusive version (forget what company made it), and the original Gameboy version. I spent many long hours with the Gameboy version, so it remains dear to my heart. In fact, it was the first version of Tetris I ever played, if I don't count the crappy clone we had for our Mac LC. Over the two Tetris games for the Nintendo, the Tengen version just does so much better for me than the Nintendo version. The famicom version is also nice, but was never released in the states. Oh and just a cool fact for those wanting the Tengen Tetris but not wanting to shell the bucks for it: Usually this is the Tetris contained on the nes/famicom multicarts, if they contain a tetris game.

Same here. Original GB Tetris is by far my favorite version of the game.

My favorite version is Tetris DX, though it was also my first one so nostalgia may have to do with it. It does have better control than the original though, plus a fireworks show.
Also, I prefer Nintendo Tetris over Tengen Tetris.

I've always liked the GB version, but I'd like something with more options for B-Type mode.
I would really like one with objectives, like 'clear the junk' or 'free the trapped whatever'.
I'm not sure if any vrsion has that kind of thing, though. Maybe I could make my own tetris using one of the open source clones...

Arcade Tetris is by far the best. Though, when I'm on the go I grab Tetris DS.

Arcade Tetris is by far the best. But which arcade Tetris? The crappy Sega version? Tetris The Grand Master? There are numerous possibilities.

As far as arcade Tetris goes, Magical Tetris Challenge is the best, then Atari Tetris. Sega Tetris sucks though on both Genesis and Arcade.

I've always been partial to the Gameboy version because I've got the most lines on it. But I like the two Nes versions too. I wasn't a fan of the PS1 version Next Tetris. I'm going to give the nod to the licenced Nes version simply because I like the music and have many fond memories of it.

Really? you have a copy? and also have you not played any other tetris games?
Im sorry if it appears an attack on you but tetris on the megadrive is one of the worst
versions of the game in my opinion.

Gameboy. Without reading this thread at all.
I would have probably said NES but the NES version doesn't have THE Tetris song. You know, the one.

I prefer the Gameboy version, but the NES version is alright. I mean, it's Tetris. There are only so many ways a game like that can be made.

This One? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b1Ci7uAEkc&feature=related)Go figure: if it's some public domain Russian folk song, why hasn't it appeared in every version of Tetris?
The less widely-heard "B" and "C" tracks from the Game Boy version were pretty darn good too.

I used to kill entire nights just playing tetrisphere on the N64. The first version since the B&W Game Boy version that could keep me coming back for more and more like that. My favorite by far...
Also Ryaan1234, that's hilarious. The giant guitar just kills me, and that guy chanting is great too, but the woman in what looks like a trumped-up "Mother Superior" nun habit is priceless...

Tengen Tetris. Thus far it's still the only Tetris game I've seen with competitive 2-play co-op mode, which is pretty damn fun.
Next to that, I'd say Tetris DS.

Tetris for the original b&w Gameboy is my favorite version of all-time. I was first introduced to it by a friend at school, and it became an obession. So fun, so addicting, such great music and sound effects... a masterpiece.
A close second is Tetris Classic for the PC (DOS) which has a great Ad Lib soundtrack (http://adlib.oldergames.com/). I used to play it all the time on my rickety old XT-8088 and it proved to be very entertaining.
I also find V-Tetris for the Virtual Boy to be rather appealing. Not as good as the Gameboy original, but still fun, and with some fresh music.
I love the gameplay of Tetris so much that it was the main inspiration of the foundation for Super Fighter Block Battle (http://www.sfblockbattle.com/).

It would have to be the original Gameboy pack-in version for me. I recognize that there are superior versions out there (Tengen Tetris, Tetris Attack for SNES), but if I had to pick just one, the old blurry Gameboy version is the choice every time.

I completely forgot to mention Nyet III.
http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/nyet-3-the-revenge-of-the-mutant-stones
You know all those nifty 2-player "versus" versions of Tetris (such as the DS variant) that let you throw wacky attacks at your oponents? Nyet successfully integrates those into a solid 1-player experience. It's sort of like Tetris combined with the surprising level-by-level variation of Arkanoid. Not a great game, but there's nothing else quite like it.

Tetrisphere/Tetris Attack
If those don't count, probably the original GB version. Tetris 2 on the SNES also comes pretty close.

Tetris DX for single player and The Next Tetris for PS1 for 2 player/head-to-head. Very fun and frustrating and good flipping the other persons screen and fuzing the blocks.

I'll just chime in my another vote for the classic Tetris on the Game Boy. Perhaps I choose it more for the memories, but I'll take that version any day over any of the newer editions.
