APRIL 12th 2006:
Hey, I've got the goods now, you can see the rest of the pics in links on the 4th page, but here's one to start with.

What would you pay for 500 sealed Video Games......
-----------------------
Pretty thought provoking topic eh?
I've got a chance to buy over 500 random, sealed, NES games, I'll let the DP'ers know if this works out, but I am curious to see what other people would pay for something like this, sight unseen.
I know there is a lot of good stuff in there, I've seen a few boxes of it, I'll be seeing the rest of it this week :)
The owner of the games and I have tip-toed around the numbers, so nothing is final yet.
So, pretend you've got a strong gaming budget, what's 500 sealed Nintendo games worth to you?

$3-5 per game.

I'd probably pay about 5000 dollars.

Any ideas on what games are included? Also are they mint or do you know anything about the condition?
Sight unseen, I'd pay $3000. Knowing a little more, I'd probably pay up to $5000 or $6000. However, I'm a poor college student who can't really afford much as I went on a spending spree for January and February (check the Feb. Finds thread later this week.)

This is a game of make-believe, don't be shy, pretend you've got the cash :)
Haven't seen the entire thing yet, but from what I did see though, everything was mint.
I saw a handful of sealed TG-16 games too, hopefully there's more :)

Probably circa $4k-$5k. If there were a few definite rarities known to be in there (i.e. Dragon Warrior IV, Bubble Bobble 2, one of the 6-in-1's, etc.), that number would likely increase to the $6k range...
BTW...if you get it, and any of the Dragon Warriors or Final Fantasy pops up...send me a PM :-P .

4-7 grand. It would also depend on wether or not it wasnt 450 sealed copys of mario bro/duck hunt.

You'd better hope there aren't a few hundred copies of Othello in there, either.

Well, there's bound to be some good ones, but there's bound to be a lot of disappointments too- Kentucky's in Canada so assuming the find is Canadian a ton of the games that would otherwise be valuable (ALL THIRTY black boxes, metroid, zelda, tyson, kid icarus, zelda 2, final fantasy, etc etc) are all going to be sticker-sealed canadian versions worth pretty much squat. :( Sucks as I found a similar lot up here myself once and a lot of what should have been the gems weren't. But talk to me kentucky, I might be interested in buying the lot or buying a whack of them to offset some of the costs for you.

If there is no doubles, then you're bound to get a ton of good ones. I would pay 10 bucks a piece and sell them for a generous profit. :devilish:

$200....so low huh.
most likely if some ones dumping so many sealed games theres something wrong with them or their crap games to begin with....probally wind up being bubble bath babes and cheetamen and by obtaining them all youd go nuts and flood the maket making their value plummit....or theyre radioactive
i know i sound crazy but really i think thats what would happen, if you were a good person you would take one for the team and not release the info you obtained these and dropping one or two at most in a few years. manitainting the illusion of the game being rare still.
i have thought about this before

If it was 450 sealed copies of smb/dh I would buy it at once. Since the box doesnt excist for smb/dh and suddently you find 450 this would be worth ALOT ;)
As the other say, depends on which games in there. Dont you have the chance to see them all or get a list before you buy?

How much is the lowest common denominator worth? If even a garbage sealed title is worth $15-20 I’d say cut that by 30% and give him $10-14/game. This is sight unseen as well as assuming that the games are 100% mint sealed. If I got to see the games it would be another story, I'd probably pay much more depending on the titles.
Again I will say it; this is why I don’t buy anything sealed. Too much $$ and too much risk.
Let us know how it comes out...

even if you can get one photo with all the games in it, you could get an idea of how many duplicates there are, and maybe what a few games are.. giving you a better average price range

i wouldnt do more than $2000.
thats a lot of money, and at $4 a piece youre likely to come out about even. there are a lot of NES games that aren't desired or are common and thus have low prices, even sealed.

Whatever you do...let him set the price then negotiate....you maye b suprised and he may offer then for a lot less then you thought. If not you can always work down to your level.
PS: Bring Cash...the sight of a couple of grand in cash can sometimes make a stubborn seller budge.

Definitely 1000's of dollars. In a lot as big as 500, there's bound to be at least a few good ones in there. I mean just one Zelda game would give you a nice profit. 8-)

You want to start low as possible. You wouldn't believe what people think they are worth. Start at $1/piece and work your way up. I'd cap at $5/piece.
We've purchased 50-60 sealed Genesis and SNES games for $2 because that's what the seller thought was fair. Don't think for a second $1/piece is not attainable.
Make sure they are original seals, btw.

Alot of great input in this thread, many people bringing up good points and suggestions, and interesting to see how many people showing how little they are interested in sealed NES games ;)
I've learned that there are also an undetermined amount of sealed Master System games, Genesis games, PC-engine, Atari 2600, Intellivision, ontop of the TG-16 and NES games, (and goodness knows what else) :)
More info as events warrant!

If I had absolute money then the skys the limit and I'd outbid anyone to get it. On the other hand, if it's offered to me personally, then I'd haggle the person to the lowest price possible. The most I'd pay with personal money is $1 each, for a total of $5. If I were rolling in the doe, I'd go for $5 each for $2500 total.
Another factor is the person. If they seem like a complete ass or shady figure, I'd expect nothing but Madden games and 1 NBA, so I would do 25 cents each tops.

If the lot did'nt include any doubles, had games that I did'nt own, and IF I had a large amount of cash on-hand, then probably somewhere around two grand [and even then I'd try to persuade the guy to pay for the shipping/handling ;)]

As long as they weren't Canadian releases, I would pay at least $8000 for the lot. Even if 4/5s of them are crap, you'll still get $10 for the crap games and alot more for the good ones.
kentuckyfried
03-03-2006, 10:43 AM
Nope, no copies of stack-up in this collection, I'm afraid.

I never knew that the Canadian NES releases are considered less valuable than the US releases.

Aero Fighters
Castlevannia: Dracula X

For so many sealed NES games if I had the money I would go up to around 1500. If you have the money it is worth it. Also you are bound to get one classic in there. I would love to have sealed copy of Super Mario Bros or Super Mario Bros 3. But first I would check on the games you don't want to get crap games the NES did have alot along with it's many classics.

I think the point being made about the Canadian versions being less valuable was in reference to the factory seals. I think the Canadian versions were only sealed with a circular piece of tape, making it easier to pass off a reseal as authentic. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this. x_x

I guess I don't understand why it's "random" in the first place.
If I had worthwhile things to sell (ie; not trying to pull a fast one), then it would quite obviously be in my best interest to give an account of what I had. Describing it as "random" tells the buyer that there is a risk of getting a huge pile of worthless stuff. Ergo, the buyer will offer a lesser amount.
The guy's time can't possibly be worth enough to justify not spending 30 minutes going through and writing down what is there, especially since the difference in offers (unknown vs. known) may be several thousand dollars.
So what reason has he given for not telling you what you are actually buying?

Anyone have an idea what these are worth?
If they're original factory sealed ROBs, these are worth AT LEAST $250-300/each if you're posting them on ebay, probably more if you can go directly to a private collector. I've sold many of these un-sealed with box, and they typically go for $80-100. Sealed ROBs very rarely see the light of day.
I'm interested in what happens with the games. I agree with Wavel's post above, but the potential to make a mint re-selling them might to too large to ignore. It's amazing what people will pay for a "common" factory sealed game like SMB3.
Yeah, worst case scenario is 595 copies of "bad" games like Airwolf or the aforementioned hilariously worthless Othello (http://cgi.ebay.com/Factory-Sealed-Nintendo-NES-Othello-Game-NIB_W0QQitemZ8260412992QQcategoryZ62053QQrdZ1QQcmd ZViewItem).

Well, there are those rare lazy sellers - they're not to common, but you do run into them now and then. Regardless, making leaps of faith is something you do when you want to lose money.
$2000 is a LOAD of money, regardless of whether we're talking about $4 a game/item, or what. Better have a damn good plan for making your money back on that one.

Well,
The owner of the games counter-offered with a number I could live with, so I made another offer, rounded it up to the nearest thousand, and added two new R.O.B.s and 10 more games to the pile, a mixture of TG-16 and PC-engine.
It's been 3 weeks since we shook on the price and I'm still waiting on the funds to come through.
Every week I'm told that this is the week for the money, and being wide-eyed hopeful that I am, I believe it :)
Just to recap, the 500 sealed NES games turned into about 750 sealed games, about 600 NES, 100 SMS, and 50 Genesis/TG-16/PC-engine games, along with two new R.O.B.s
Out of the 600 games that I'm familiar with about 25 of them are Canadian games, the rest are US.
I'll be honest, there's alot of duplicates and none of the titles are exceedingly rare, but there sure are alot of them.
I'll post more info as it comes and when I get a complete listing of titles.
(No stack-ups, from what I can see BTW)

Id offer 10 grand. Then when he goes to shake my hand id suddenly level a handgun at him. "Oh did I say ten grand I meant 12 BULLETS!" Then id empty the gun on him "reloading once as it is a revolver" Then load up all the games and take off. Once in a secure position I would burn the fake ZZ Top beard, sunglasses and oversized padded moomoo then dump the gun in a deep river.
But yknow thats just my 2 cents.
