Yeah, I'm guessing that SMB3 was part of that other 15%? I know mine is. Gawd, that game was just so popular (although it was a really hard game for me :P).

The one from eBay, well... was from eBay.... the one that came from EB was for sale on their DS rack. Looks like someone traded/sold it to them... Never thought about offering the manager some $$$ to purchase the demos X_x

Stopped at one of my regular thrift haunts to check on their SNES selection.

Nothing new.
I grabbed:
Bassin's Black Bass
Star Trek the Next generation
$9

As the owners wife rang those up, I had an irrasistable urge to check their Gamecube section...ooh good thing!

Skies of Arcadia Legends-$16 :D
Totally minty, everything looking unplayed, the reciept was still inside! The lady said she had just gotten it in a couple of hours prior.

So far Ive made ALL my best finds at this place.

the same person also traded in Resident Evil 4 (it was $22) but I passed on it...

I went to Hong Kong for a week and I bought one game. One fricking game. Pitiful, no? There was just so much to see and do in Hong Kong that I didn't want to spend my limited time in search of game shops. i did follow the instructions of my fellow DP'ers, though, and found a mall-type building with narrow hallways and LOADS of stalls. Mostly newer stuff, though. That's where I bought said game.

My one game? A sealed (but slightly cracked case) copy of Tobal 2 for the PSone. I've always wanted to play this sequel... the first one was awesome but the second never made it to our shores and it has become somewhat legendary. It's a Square (pre Square-Enix) fighting game with something like 200 playable characters and a full RPG thrown in there, too. Of course, it's not nearly as cool now (I suppose) since the PSone technology is 11 years old and these older fighters look like ass, but what the hell. It was $12. :)

Bit from somewhere on the net...

Tobal No. 2 is Square/Squaresoft's finest fighting game. It's a pity because nobody here ever got to play it unless they imported it.

Dream Factory's sequel to Tobal No. 1 (The first Squaresoft PSX game, and the ONLY one released in the US up until after Final Fantasy 8 that I don't have testing credits on.) was released way back in 1997, and surpasses it in EVERY aspect. I like it better than both Bushido Blade games, and the engine for Tobal No. 2 is almost as good, if not on par with the engine they used for Ehrgeiz. In fact, looking back, this game can probably hold its own with nearly any 3D fighter out there now...

The character designs were all done by Akira Toriyama, and if you've ever seen Dragon Ball Z, you'll know it instantly. The big boots on the characters, Chuji looks like he's powering up, and Gren looks totally ripped from a DBZ episode....Trunks with a hat and different colored hair...

If you've never played Tobal No. 1, here's how the story goes. Gren Kuts has a big old corporation. He goes off to fight in the 98th Tobal tournament and defeats Emporer Udan. (That guy is SO frickin' cheesy. He's got a TOD combo, and he'll use it!) He returns for the 99th tournament after hearing rumors swirling about his corporation doing some nefarious things to the island of Tobal. The prize for winning the tournament is a bunch of money and a trophy. So, some fighters come for the cash, others for the glory, and still others need the trophy for something.

The cast of characters

You've already heard Gren's story, but there's also:

Chuji Wu

He used to own a mine on the island of Tobal. He gets bought out by the Kuts Corporation, so Chuji returns to take down Gren, because he thinks he's a greedy punk. He's the guy on the cover.

Epon

Her father was a former champion of the Tobal Tournament, but his brutal fighting style injured many of the participants. Epon, trying to clear the shame behind her father's name, enters the tournament.

Hom

Hom's funny. He's a robot that Fei built, and he studies martial arts with the old master. However, Hom's power's been fading recently, and so he enters the tournament because he thinks that Fei is weakening him on purpose, and entering the tournament will give the opportunity to beat Fei and make him stop it.

Illgoga

A big pink dinosaur thing. He's really cheesy too because he's got some stupid 7-hit combo with his tail. Anyway, he's entering the tournament because after he got royally whupped in the first tournament by Gren, the woman he planned to marry is fascinated with Gren. He wants to prove his strength, and get the money to buy his woman a really cool engagement ring.

Doctor V

Doctor V is a military doctor who is looking for a rumored stone mentioned in some of the ancient medical manuals he's been reading. He thinks that this may be the Royal Stone atop the trophy for the tounament and enters to continue his research.

Oliems

Oliems doesn't understand that he's not a man, but he's a chicken, Boo. He was beat down by Epon's dad in a previous tournament and taunted with horrible chicken insults the whole time. Evil, evil stuff like, "Flock you!" and "Mother Clucker!" He must avenge his defeat and bring glory back to his people.

Mary

Mary's a big wrestler woman. She needs the prize money because the wrestling federation she's part of has run out of money. (Can you smell that the Rock Will Work for Food...and a SHOWER?!) Gren doesn't want her to enter but she does anyway.

Fei

Fei's a former champion who built his robot pal Hom. He's just realized that the stone that powers Hom is the stone he got from winning the 66th Tobal Tournament. Fei enters the tournament to try and get the stone and keep Hom powered.

Chaco Yutani

Chaco's a digital hottie. Way before Dead or Alive emerged on the scene, Tobal No. 2 added erm..."bounce" to their characters. Chaco's sensed a lot of negative chi in the area, and has been dispatched by the Galaxy Patrol. She figures that while she's in the area she might as well participate in the tournament...and not wear a bra. And who can blame her? As a bonus, her character's ending shows her going out to shoot up invaders on her ship wearing nothing but her underwear.

Gameplay

Fighting is fairly simple. You've got a high attack, mid attack and low attack, just like in The Bouncer. You also have a block button. Hit block and mid punch, and you'll do a grab. You can kick the enemy in the shin after you've held him, and then he'll hop around like a fool in pain and you can repeatedly pummel him. That's probably one of the funniest sights I've encountered in playing a fighting game.

Tobal No. 2 is a lot like Tekken. You can get away with doing some really cheap stuff on the players that suck, but the expert player will have a whole other layer of complexity to tap into.

There are a lot of really difficult combinations to pull off. Everyone can do the easy 3 hit ones, but it takes a real pro to pull off some of the 7 or longer hit combos, and nearly only the computer can pull off Udan's touch of death combos...which reminds me...Mufu, Nork, and Udan are really, really cheesy bosses on Hard. Most of the time I can only beat Udan by hoping he runs off the edge of the stage to his death...which I imagine is horribly bloody and brutal...cheap bastard.

Some attacks are "just frame" attacks, that have to be executed by hitting a button seqeunce in a specific rhythm at a certain time. Do it right, and you'll get a flashy star trail and do extra damage.

If you're getting beat, use a charge up attack. Hit back and mid punch, followed by tapping and then holding back in quick succession and you'll start building up chi to do a powerful attack and that draws power from your life bar. If you're a wimp, you can just push in the analog stick, and it'll execute the move for you. You can also try and "Ring Out" the enemy if you're getting really desperate.

If you beat Story Mode, you'll get a really great rendered ending. Epon, Chaco, Fei, and Hom all have really nice endings. If you beat the game with a Quest Mode monster, you'll be treated to a scene of your character getting funk-ay! You haven't fully experienced everything until you beat the game with Box Man. Sadly, the cool rendered endings seem to be a thing of the past...Guilty Gear XX just has a bunch of still pics, the ones from Tekken 4 weren't all that great...seriously...the Art Department isn't doing anything after they're finished the character models...make some cool endings! I know they fit on the disc.

Graphics

The graphics for the game are sweet. Nothing on the Playstation can really surpass Tobal 2's look. The fighting moves very, very smoothly, and fans of Toriyama will definitely appreciate his touches on this game. The animation is very nice, as well. If you character gets kicked in the shin, he hops around in obvious pain. People around the room will laugh at your misfortune.

Sound

Sound quality is also pretty good. I liked the game music for Tobal 2 so much I bought the soundtrack to the game. The little effects for your character getting dizzy, charging up, getting hit...this game was done well. It's a real pity that it never got to this side of the world.

Extras

Quest Mode is a whole other animal all to itself. You can combine potions all sorts of different ways to have all sorts of zany effects, not nearly all of which are good.

Choose any of your fighters and level them up so you can clear all the various dungeons. You can wear items, and equip gems to increase/decrease your stats, and you'll never really know until you put them on. Tobal No. 2 is basically a better version of Ehrgeiz Quest Mode, if you're having problems envisioning everything, except this Quest Mode doesn't have any weapons, so you aren't always running back to town just to repair them.

Also, there are these Purple capture gems. If you beat an enemy monster down until it's got a very miniscule amount of health left, you can capture it Pokemon-style with a stone. Once you've done that, you can down use it to fight with in the game's main fighting mode. Most of the fighting styles for the monsters are fairly simplistic...but doing so allowed you to have hundreds of characters to play as in the fighting game.

If you can find this game anywhere for up to $25, this game is worth it. If it's more than that, you're just helping some evil jerk on Ebay get rich. Snap it up, pop in the disc, and be happy you've probably got the 3D fighting game with the best blend of eye candy and substance ever made for the original Playstation.

Tobal 2 is extremely good. I got it long after its heyday and still found it to be more than worthwhile. Gouraud shaded fighters still look cool and the motion capture animation is awesome in both the original and the sequel. Too bad Ehrgeiz, Kakuto Chojin and Crimson Tears are so average. Dream Factory had tons of promise.

Back to topic. A buddy of mine who knows I collect was at his girlfriend's parents' house and did me a favor. They had a pile of stuff they had cleaned out of their garage and were going to toss. My friend grabbed two bags of game related items for me. He had mentioned an N64 and a SNES, but I was thinking it was going to be some crappy loose stuff in bad condition. -_-

Instead, I get to his house and find a nice stack of stuff. After convincing him to keep the SNES, N64, and N64 games (Mario 64, Zelda:OOT, Goldeneye and Wave Race with nearly destroyed boxes), I walked away with boxed SNES fighter stick, a boxed, complete SNES Game Genie, 2 unopened, official SNES cleaning kits, and a bunch of decent, complete boxed SNES games in good to fair shape:

Super Castlevania IV - Best condition of the lot
Star Fox
DKC
DKC 2
SMW - Cart & Manual only
Zelda III - First print, excellent condition.
Darius Twin
Raiden Trad
Super R-Type
NBA Jam TE
Young Merlin
Waialae Golf - wrecked box
Super Smash TV
Super Strike Eagle
Vegas Stakes

Also got a stack of Prima Strategy Guides and random magazines, all in excellent condition:

Nintendo Power - Zelda III cover
Zelda III Strat Guide
SMW Strat Gude
DKC Strat Guide
Zelda:OOT Strat Guide
EGM 1992 SNES Buyers' Guide
EGM 1993 Video Game Buyers' Guide

Pretty sweet haul for the low, low price of FREE. :D Best find of the year so far, and the first time this has happened to me in a LONG time. The last time I can remember was back in college when one of by best friends gave me his TurboGrafx 16 and a couple games upon cleaning out his closet.

WICKED FIND!!!

For those who dont know: It is hard to get your hands on ANY Demo cart, believe it!

I once spoke to a nintendo rep about demo carts, She said she could lose her job if she didn't bring all of the ones in the area back to nintendo.

It's a wonder how anyone gets these, unless nintendo lets their employees have them, and then they show up after a long time.

As for my find, i bought some E-Reader cards for $3.40 total, still all sealed up:

Mario bros (x3)
Donkey Kong 3 (x2)
Super Mario advance 4/SMB 3
A Pokemon Battle Card.

Filthy, but cleaned up well and works nice. No games, but I was able to cobble together a multicart Friday evening using an old Hyperchase cart I found years and years ago. :)

For the first time EVER...... I actually found a TurboGrafx-16 system in the wild! I was totally amazed when I saw it. In fact, I was so amazed, that I probably paid way more than I should have. I asked the guy, "how much", he said $30, and I just bought it right there. I was worried a guy behind me would ask for it. Here is what was included

TG-16 System
NEC PSU for TG-16
TurboPad
TG-16 RF
Dungeon Explorer - complete but ho hu cover
The Legendary Axe - complete
Bonk's Adventure - complete but no hu cover
Splatterhouse - complete
Keith Courage - hu card & case
Chew Man Fu - hu card & case - case missing hu clip

I probably could have offered $20 for it, and he might have taken it. I'm sure he had no idea what it was. It's not a huge score at all, from a financial standpoint, I mean it's a decent haul for $30, but the real thing for me, is that it's the first time I've ever seen "ANY" TG-16 items in the wild. I can't stress that enough. I've been to tons and tons of thrift stores, flea markets, pawn shops and garage sales, and I've never ran into anything at all TG-16 related. I have seen a very small number of TG-16 items at some specialty game stores that I've been to, but that doesn't really count as the wild, and the TG-16 things that they did have were super limited and not even worth talking about.

Anyways, I don't normally ever talk about my finds, but I was so happy to finally see some TurboGrafx-16 related items on one of my hunts. It was truly and exciting moment. One time I actually found a Caltron 6 in 1 cart, and finding this was right up there with that, even though from a financial standpoint it's no even comparable, it's just from a sentimental standpoint.

A dream of dreams would be to find a Neo Geo AES or a Turbo Duo. Those two are on my dream come true list as far as finding a system in the wild. Actually maybe a FM Towns Marty would be my most wanted system to find in the wild, but my chances of finding one of those in the wilds is the same as my chance of hitting PowerBall. In fact, I'm more likely to hit PowerBall.

It works and nothing is wrong with it and it came with a container full of the balls you use to play it.

Wico Command Control Joystick-2600-$2.00

Widescreen Star Wars Trilogy Defenitive Collection-$18.00
This is the laserdisc version and it is mint in a collectors box with a cool book about all of Lucas movies at the time.

I've had a pretty good week thus far. I got Castlevania 3 and Metroid by mail from an Atari Age member for $14.05 shipped. Then, I bought Vice: Project Doom and Xenophobe (NES) for $6 total at a local used game store.

Then today, I hit a Goodwill and spotted a couple of old PS1 games (sports mostly) and mixed in was a copy of Castlevania Chronicles!!!! The CD sleeve was split into three parts and the manual was missing the cover, but the disc is perfect, and for $1.99 I'm certainly not going to be picky!

Man, I'm spending like a fiend this month.

First I stopped at a local EB and took it in the ass by purchasing Rhapsody (PS1) for $30... Yeah, a reprint I know, but I'm such a sucker for SRPG's and I'm more of a gamer first, collector second.

Next I went to my favorite game store ever and noticed somebody must have recently unloaded their DC colelction. There was some mad good s*** I kid you not. Here's what I got from the place.

Power Stone (DC, complete): $9.99
Street Fighter III: Double Impact (DC, complete): $9.99
Marvel vs. Capcom (DC, complete): $14.99
Midnight Resistance (Genesis, loose): $2.99
Viewpoint (Genesis, complete & in immaculate condition): $3.99

Here's a pic: http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4799/im0003558xz.th.jpg (http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=im0003558xz.jpg)

For DC, they also had Capcom vs. SNK, which I passed on, and Power Stone 2. At $29.99, I was willing to pick up Power Stone 2, but unfortunately, unlike the other desirable fighters I picked up, this ones disc looked like an ice skating rink that hadn't been polished in hours. Too many scratches for my taste.

I also learned something new today. I had no idea Sammy ported Viewpoint to the Genesis.

Basically, what I am doing is buying up a bunch of pc games that also came out on xbox 360 just for fun from eBay. I wanted q4 pretty bad, so I bought it new. Here is what else I got:

XBox 360 Controller for Windows - New - 34.99

Sigh, the Genesis wasn't able to handle Viewpoint. -_-

Pc - Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion LE - $50 with discount...

Can't wait to rip into this one! I'm really surprised how hyped this game has become...we had about 20 people this morning waiting for it, and it sold like wildfire.

Godfather....FAILURE. Didn't really seem to sell at all.

Sankyo "Big Powerful Fever" Pachinko machine-$50
It works and nothing is wrong with it and it came with a container full of the balls you use to play it.

CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN, LUBRICATE, CLEAN, DON'T USE ANY CLEANERS ON THE PLAYFIELD - it destroys the surface and it can NEVER be repaired. I'm just about done with the full restoration of a Nishijin machine from 1972 (http://www.classicplastic.net/dvgi/special-pachinko.html).

The rains were light enough Monday night and into early Tuesday morning that there were still people out at the flea market - first time in four weeks. Nothing great but I did grab some stuff I was looking for.

NES - Gyromite (x2) $2.50 each, one of them had the Famicom-NES conveter board inside, which is what I was looking for as I let a friend borrow the last conveter cartridge I built out of one... and they can't seem to find it now. As I don't have my original to base the measurements off of (for cutting the shell down, etc) it looks a little rough, nowhere as nice as the few I've made in the past with my template, but it's getting the job done. The next one I make will get back to the old quality.

SNES - Lagoon (loose) $5, been meaning to pick up a copy for awhile.

PlayStation - Dance Dance Revolution Konamix (disc and booklet) $5, up for sale in my Buying and Selling thread.

Game Gear - Poker Face Paul's Solitare (factory sealed) $2, up for sale in my Buying and Selling thread as well.

Handheld Hangman game $1, I bought a version of Battleship like this for $1 a couple years ago, thinking I'd never play it but it's a nice cheap addition to my LCD handhelds - and ended up playing it all the time, this will probably be the same. :)

Tell me about it... It's no Zaxxon, but I still enjoy Viewpoint. I guess I'll just have to hope I run into the PS1 version sooner or later.

BTW Midnight Resistance is a bit of a letdown too due to slowdown. It's a pretty good run 'n gun, even though a D-pad isn't the best alternative to the arcade versions rotational stick but it gets the job done. However, like I said, the slowdown is awful.

Is Scooby doo for trade or did you get it from a trade?

Either way, enjoy those games.

In DAH, When you're in rockwell, try going under the bridge and electrocuting people that are walking on the bridge! (It's a glitch) Also, you can stick people to the underside of the bridge if you do it right (Although the people have to be dead)

Don't know if it'll work in the PS2 version, i have the xbox version.

And in Scooby Doo, try to ID the voices of two of the exclusive characters in the game. (Both of them are guys) One of the characters is modeled after the person who played the voice. ;)

I recently had the oppertunity to raid the offices of a game developer who was getting rid of a lot of old Amiga type stuff, and the result...

URL REMOVED

I don't even know what half of it is, to be honest. A lot of books, and some interesting equiptment all with manuals and whatnot. The machine has a hard drive within it, so it may have some interesting stuff on there, I'll be sure to check it out when I get the chance.

Also, be sure to check out "Picture 023.jpg", it looks interesting. It's a beta version of a game called "Skidmarks". They said there were no games, so I'm assuming this was an accident or something, I have no idea.

If anyone sees anything cool, please do tell me, because I'm curious about what on earth it all is. (You can tell I'm not a Amiga expert)

She didn't want to sell it to me. She had a ton of NES games shoved in there for $3 each, all in pretty good condition, but all I wanted was the case for reselling, so I offered her $15 for the box and three games (Zelda 1, Super Mario Bros. and Tetris). 8-) The thing can hold 15 games inside!

I've never seen one of these, and I'm not keeping it. It's going on eBay unless someone offers me a good price. LOL

I also bought Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love For Sail! and Leisure Suit Larry 6: Shape Up Or Slip Out! for $3, and Millenium Season 2 for $15. :D

Today was certainly very interesting...

I was helping one of my friends clean and rearrange part of her house, when she found a box for a Genesis game. The insert had been reversed, but when I flipped it it was for Street Fighter II CE. A bit later, she found a manual for her first copy of Suikoden II, which she had lost years ago, and subsequently replaced (Suikoden II was cheap, a long time ago... God, I feel old). She gave both of these to me as thanks for the help (with both cleaning and earlier assistance with Suikoden III).

Even later, we went hunting for Saturn games, which was something of a bust, until she found a gem hidden in the Genesis section: SHINING FORCE II @_@ .

Moral: you never know what you'll find.

Anyway, the damage:

Suikoden II manual (minty): free
Street Fighter CE box: free
Shining Force II (cart + box cut to fit a hard case): $30
Earthbound guide (intact, but written in :( definitely gamer's condition): $2.

Was lucky enough to pick up the following a few days ago.

NES console w. 2 controller (though thecontrollers did not work for some odd reason)

with the system came about 25 games, 3-4 were famicom copies, but the rest were genuine. Among them,

Mr Gimmick
Gold Medal Challange (very rare scandinavian release)
Little Samson (also rare in scandinavia)
Metroid
Along with a bunch of other nice games.

Have been looking for Gimmick for a long time, and was very happy with the finding. Such a great game!

Everything was unboxed unfortunatly, but i got everything for about $12, so i wont complain :)

Got some good stuff yesterday, including a few additions to my racing game collection.

PlayStation:
Porsche Challenge (complete) - $2.69
Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed (complete) - $4.49
Crash Team Racing (complete, GH) - $6.29

I normally don't pay over $5 for PSX games, but I've wanted CTR for some time and the disc was in good shape, the best used copy I've seen of it in a while.

PS2:
Street Fighter 15th Anniversary Chun Li controller (new) - $5 on clearance at Sam Goody

Gamecube:
Lotus Challenge (new) - $3.88 on clearance at Sam Goody

This was a pretty good find, as it was cheap and quite uncommon. I have a feeling it'll probably become one of the harder Gamecube titles to find, if not one of the rarest.

GBA:
Rayman 10th Anniversary (loose) - $6.29

Flea Market:...
(what happened to all the games, x_x :( nothing in gaming if anything caught my eye....Just overpriced junk..

The first thing I ran into was a set of Coca-Cola LIONEL Trains..I've been looking for this for a long time and have seen it priced pretty high on Ebay.(though it's not right now)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/Chris1/Helmetcam051.jpg

My wife Collects Coca-Cola items but this was more nostalgic for me..
I was given the set(of full set pic below) when I was a kid for Christmas,I used to play with this everyday and had a pretty big track layout .
I loaned it to my best friend, and he loaned me his slot car set..I walked into his basement with him one day and found that he had smashed the set up using a Tonka truck crane to drop the trains onto each other..He moved right after this so I told my parents it disappeared with him(I kept his slot car set)
To this day I'd still wish to find the old set in his old house basement.
So when I saw this I plunked the $100.00 asking price on the table with no haggle and bought it..

Comes in a set like this..

A vendor friend had a banged up Atari 2600 6 switch console with most the stuff to hook it up..no games but two weird tall controllers.
$10.00..I passed because to this day no Atari that's he's sold me ever worked..
The controllers kept eating at me to buy it but I never went back..

Today's flea market finds...

Adventures of Lolo 2, cart only but with Chubby Cherub manual for some reason... $6

Top Gun 2 complete... $5 I orphaned it about six weeks ago, buying 3 other completes she had and leaving it behind. It just looked so lonely... :)

Jr. Pac-Man and Journey Escape (for a friend) 2600 loose... $1.50 apiece

NES Lunar Pool with manual, plus I talked the guy into letting me take 4 official plastic cases off his hands... $7... mainly because he didn't want to part with the cases.

TI-99/4A boxed system and boxed Program Recorder add-on... $15. Don't know if I got a deal or not, seems like they're selling for about that apiece plus shipping on Ebay. I probably could have haggled him to 10, but I was so surprised he didn't ask for 40 or 50 that I took it. It's still in the car, so I've got to bring it up and see if there's any games buried inside the box.

Pics to come later maybe.
