I've found the rarest PS2 and Gamecube games threads but I can't seem to find one for the Xbox. Are there any rare games for the Xbox?

I believe marvel vs capcom 2 is rare, not too sure if it is rare or just in high demand though.

TJ&E definatly is not rare, every Game Stop has at least one copy around here at $14.99. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 has a lower print run but not really rare either just "in demand".

Air Force Delta Srike or whatever its called was the RARE Xbox game for awhile but I believe it had a reprint.

It isn't a big money game, but a lot of hardcore Xbox collectors agree that F1 2001 is the hardest game to find for Xbox. I've been collecting Xbox for over 2 years now and have over 100 games for the system. I've never seen a copy of F1 2001 during all my hunts in the wild, so I think I agree with that.

Some other Xbox games that I never see anywhere are Shattered Union, Dai Senryaku VII, and Sniper Elite.

Haha, figures. Must be one of those "regional" things then.

Anyone see that "Loons" (Loony Toons) game for Xbox? I heard that one was pretty rare and I've only seen that once before in the wild. Didn't pick it up though 'cause the box was beat to shit.

I'd definitely add Marvel vs Capcom 2, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Fatal Frame 1. However, Shattered Union, Dai Senryaku VII, and Sniper Elite aren't rare, just look at how many are available on half.com, I have one Dai Senryaku VII on half.com now.

F1 2001 isn't very rare in my opinion. Perhaps you're getting confused with EA's F1 2002 for the Game Cube.

you mean kakuto chojin?

Yep thats it.

I know a shop around here has 2 used copies every time I go in. Part of that probaly has to do with its never-dropping $35 price tag.

A few I'd keep my eye on (I've said these before in some other threads):

- Deathrow
- Phantom Crash

It also helps that both of these are excellent games. Deathrow is the hit that should have been. Every review EXCEPT EGM's was very high, and EGM's sucked because they let the fat guy that does the codes section write it (I've never seen him review another game in EGM EVER).

Phantom Crash is what MechAssault (and MechAssault 2) should have been. Much faster, much more kickass and with Gran Turismo-esque mech customization.

I don't know if there are really any Xbox games that yet have become rare when you don't take regions into account. A bunch of the games that were mentioned already in this thread -- Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Fatal Frame and Deathrow -- I can find in a bunch of stores around Milwaukee. I can say that I have seen them all within the past year multiple times.

The one exception is Loons, which I only remember seeing once because I picked it up to look at it thinking what in the world was it, glanced at it and though, "Okay." and put it back. I haven't seen it since.

Around here, fromt he games I have been looking for, it is hard to find Alien Hominid (was it released stateside for the Xbox?), Metal Slug 4 & 5 (although I can find that online really easily) and Spikeout: Battle Street. With the exception of Alien Hominid, I know that I can find the other two in plentiful quantities if I want to pay for shipping on them though.

I'm almost positive Alien Hominid was only released for PS2 and Game Cube.

I don't think there are any truly rare Xbox games. Some may be hard to come by due to demand, but none are actually scarce. That may not be a distinction anyone cares about though.

A few difficult to acquire games are:
-Barbie Horse Adventures
-Air Force Delta Storm
-Jurassic Park
-Gauntlet Dark Legacy (maybe)
-Steel Battalion will probably be tough later on. At least complete.

Dai Senryaku VII is definately not hard to find, depending where you live. Every Shopko and Pamida I've been to has several copies for $9.99. I've seen it as low as $7.99 a few times last year.

In discussion of most of the posts:

PDorr3: I would assume MVC2 is just very saught after, thus making it rare because many owners of it are not trading it in.

Bluteg: Air Force Delta Storm was rare, it was pulled off the shelves after 2 or 3 weeks.....I got my sealed copy from Joe (thanks!)....I'm not sure about a reprint though....

norkusa: F1 2001 is indeed hard to find....I've never seen a copy of it....and I only know, not personally, one person that has it.....I also heard Loons was rare, but I can't comment on that....

djbeatmongrel: I have a copy of Volvo: Drive For Life sealed.....it wasn't hard at all to get....I dropped $17 shipped for it on eBay.....$17 is less than a $20 Platinum Hits game.....and the last time I did check there were loads of copies on eBay....I don't know now though....

keiblerfan69: Kakuto Chojin was pulled off the shelves, but I don't feel that it is rare....I got my copy for like $5 and there were a bunch of other copies there with it.....

DrJustinRamone: Didn't they drop down very low prices shortly after release....I don't know about currently, but I believe they were pretty abundant not too long ago.

goatdan: Alien Hominid was not release for XBox in the USA...only PS2 and GCN. Spikeout: Battle Street was easy to get when it first came out and I still see loads of pre-owned copies around....might be regional....

muffinman943: 9 Holes Of Xmas, 9 More Holes Of Xmas, and Red Hot were easy to get and plentiful...I had a couple copies of some of them for a while. Holiday Golf, the Toys 'R Us exclusive version of 9 Holes Of Xmas was however pretty hard to get. Sneakers, also a TRU exclusive, might not be the easiest thing to find either.

The Worms games for the xbox all took me a while to find. (Forts was the easiest.)

It's so disappointing that they're rather mediocre.

I saw a copy of "Sneakers" at EB the other day, i looked at it trying to remember what someone had said about that game..

And "Gauntlet: Dark Legacy" was difficult to find here. I looked all over town and only EB had a copy. $25 got me a used copy with no manual and a disc of questionable quality.

Which is why i found a copy on Ebay.

what about any of those block buster exclusive games?

Curse: The Eye of Isis is all over the place. Ditto to the Outlaw Golf expansions, etc.

We have three copies of Sneakers in the store. People keep buying them for their kids and returning them because they're supposedly awful games.

Spikeout only seems rare because Gamestop never carried it so any copies in Planet X/Gamestop/Babbage's/Funco Land/Software Etc. at the time would be ones people traded in. It's really not hard to find at all though.

I'd argue that there's no truly rare US XBox games yet, just ones with very high demand at the moment. The only one I'd ever consider hard to get is Fatal Frame, as the copy I own is the only one I've ever seen in person.

Barbie Horse Adventure is all over the place around here too. I think we actually still have some new copies in the drawer.

Steel Battalion, also, almost every Gamestop in this region as AT LEAST one complete used one in very good shape. A couple of them still have new ones. If people are looking for this, Toys R' Us will clearance it for $90 sometimes.

To me, US XBox games that will eventually become rare would be:

Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick
Fatal Frame
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Metal Slug 3
Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors
Pulse Racer
Samurai Shodown V
Sniper Elite

Most of these you'd have to maybe check more than one store to get now, but they're easy to find once you actually start looking.

Bluteg

Silent Scope Complete banks decently on ebay while it has far fewer copies available at any given time compaired to say "Marvel Vs. Capcom 2". I think its not OMG fucking RARE but definatly hard to find because I've yet see one in the wild.

I have to disagree with you there. I know this because I purchased my copy at my local Gamestop.

Also, Fatal Frame must be a regional thing because I see it around here from time to time.

From my experiences collecting for Xbox, the game that I have not seen for a long time is Loons. I have just reached 215 games for the Xbox and it really all depends what game store you go to because where I live in Woodbridge Virginia, each game stores seems to have a different personality when it comes to used and new games. Most of the games stated in this thread I have found at pawn shops or GameCrazy.

Did Rent a Hero ever come out in the US?

When I worked at Babbages, we had a used sku in the computer, and I remember EGM reviewed it. Ive aways wanted to play it, because I love Sega, and quirky japanese titles.

At least in this area with Spikeout, I preordered it because I heard it was going to be a beat-em-up, and it would be produced in very limited quantities. While I didn't believe the limited quantities stuff, I love beat-em-ups. So...

The EBGames that I bought it from got one copy -- mine. The manager really wanted the game after seeing it from me, and it took him over a month to find a copy of it. That's the last time I've seen it 'in the wild', but judging by eBay prices, it definitely isn't that rare elsewhere.

Alien Hominid is on the Xbox, PAL at least.
The Xbox version was only released in Europe while the Gamecube version was only released in the US.

There is a limited Eurogamer edition for Alien Hominid. Only 100 copies made for each consol (xbox and ps2), individually numbered 1 to 100 and signed by Tom Fulp (lead programmer) and Dan Paladin (lead artist), enclosed in a special slipcase and comes with a limited edition T-shirt.

I don't think anything is that unavailable yet.

I had a problem finding Dai Senryaku VII when it came out, but I'm seeing it pretty commonly nowadays. I think there must have been a second shipment, because it was actually a PAIN to find there for the first month or so.

And the Worms games all caused me a bit of trouble to track down at first. I ended up going to eBay, but there usually aren't too many copies up at a time.

What's everyones opinion on the MotoGP games? I know 3 is somewhat easy to find since it just came out this past summer, but 1 & 2 have always been sparse around here (especially MGP1).

Strange how MGP 2 sells for $30 used at Gamestop and EB, whereas MGP3 sells for $25. :/

This continuing trend to have a "Collectors edition" or whatever will probably make collecting xbox interesting as time goes on.

2 I have are Doom3 with the metal case and Mech Assault 2. The case is just shiny but has a bonus disc with g4tv shit on it.

I think theres a Special edition Jade Empire too.

I dunno if there is already a thread on this special edition crap. Im lazy.

Other 'Collectors Editions' include

Call Of Duty 2
Mark Eck's Gettin' Up
Need For Speed Most Wanted: Black
True Crime: NY

They'll all be annoying to get in a while. True Crime is already uncommon, and the NFS one isnt seen alot either.

Theres a bunch of Not for Resale Xbox games. and all of them are pretty easy to get used except the sports one (that slips my mind at the moment) and Halo. Halo is so out there in its (5 yes 5 versions (original, Chrome GOTY, regular GOTY, NFR and Platinum versions) that the game itself isnt rare, just the NFR print on it thats annoying to get for that variant hunter. And i've been seeing a decent number of Halo XBox's lately to boot which only +'s up those NFR Halo's.

I didn't mention Halo 2 only because its everywhere. I don't see a gamestop/EB that doesnt have at least one or two copies in it at any given time.

Some true hard to finds for me have been

DDR Ultramix Big Box version (the one with the pad). Hell all the Big Box'd Xbox games are annoying to really get ahold of.

Safe to say that it's the single RAREST Xbox game, I've seen other aforementioned rare titles in store shortly after release, but not this one. You can't even find this game easily on eBay nor half.com, while some rare titles are abundant online if you're willing to fork out the $$.

What about Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu Action Figure Collector's Edition? Finding one that hasn't been smashed up in the back room is pretty hard, and I don't often see copies in any condition. In fact, I've only seen two. I know 15,000 were made, but the original 50 or 60 dollar price was quickly slashed to 19 when it was clear that no one wanted it.

There's actually a 6th version of halo out there that's incredably rare. It's a not for resale version of the original cover art. It was only availible to microsoft employees who worked on the xbox. It was only availible for a few months too... Actually, almost all xbox games have a "not for resale" case design for the microsoft employees. Once they ran out of the initial stock on the halo NFR, they switched to the standard cover art.

I've got about 50 games with the same little green "Not for Resale" somewhere on the bottom. They gave up on doing the special cover art for the microsoft store sometime in '03 or '04, so after that they should all be the same as retail. Nope it was only in Europe (oddly I think we got the XBox and PS2 and no GC version at least I've never seen a GC one)

Metal Slug 4 is relitively easy to find in the UK at the moment and Metal Slug 5 is released the end of the month here. so it might just be the US copies that are harder to find.

kakuto chojin was mentioned already and ive seen them around a few times but i heard that there are 2 versions of the game - the first one with the content it was banned for and the re-release with out the content

can anyone back this up? if so wouldn’t the version with out the banned content be the rarer one?

what remember reading --

kakuto chojin was banned for some kind of Arabic chants - it was pulled and re-released with out it in there - then pulled completely because they were not selling at all

when this happened i remeber people selling the game with the comments that the version they are selling is the banned version

My local Gamestop has a disc only copy of Spike Out....I'm so tempted to pick it up, but alas my completist side will not allow it.

Crazy, I saw a copy of Spike out at Wal-mart the other day, I have never seen a copy of Roller Coaster Tycoon though

Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast is pretty hard to come by from what I have seen and heard.

I don't think it ever got a release in retail stores and if it did it was in really low numbers. I remember seeing it for both PS2 and PSP in stores (well, Toy's R Us) but i never saw it for Xbox.

I had to but it off of Amazon (from Toy's R Us, when they still were affiliated with Amazon).

"Futurama" still eludes me.
